Quote of the Week - Whoopi Goldberg

In a recent interview Whoopi Goldberg cited J.K. Rowling as the author, dead or living, whom she'd most like to have dinner with. She also goes on to compare her writing style to that of Rowling's.

Quote:

If you could have dinner with one author who’s living or dead, who would it be and why?

There are hundreds of authors. Anyone who writes a book, I’m interested in, because it’s coming out of their head. I just like the idea. Probably these days, I’d probably want to sit down with J.K. Rowling. I’m interested in that brain. [I’d ask her,] "What said to you: ‘Here’s what I want to write’?" She’s working and keeping the family together. What sparked her? That’s what I’d want to know, because I think she’s really smart.
Quote:

You mentioned J.K. Rowling earlier. She’s said she has outlines and back stories for even the smallest characters in her books. Are you the same way?

She’s much deeper than I would ever be. I’m not that deep. It comes to my head and I’ll think of it and say, "I’d like it to go this way." Or someone will say, "What about this" And I’ll say, "This looks good … Let’s do this." I’m not deep at all.

Two talented ladies in one news thread?! ... Whoopi's great - never ceases to make me laugh! Great Actress... bit of a bummer that theres no roles she would have be able to snag in DH ... [:/]

EmmaRiddle 06-18-2009 03:51 PM

^ She's American, so she wouldn't be allowed.

Nixy! 06-18-2009 04:04 PM

i know that :) Its still a bummer about her, but Its such an accomplishment for them to have kept and all UK born cast ( I think, Isn't Emma Watson actually french? ... I'll have to check that - not sure where I read it, And the actress who played FLeur - was she english?)

PadfootAndTheWolf 06-18-2009 04:06 PM

Emma was born in France but was brought up here.

As for Fleur, her character IS French, so she wouldn't have to be British.

Offcourse, Whoopi made the right choice. Who wouldn't? lol:cheers:

That sounds like the start of a good dinner party to me. Add in David Tennant, Stephen Fry, Micheal Gambon and Bonnie Greer and it would be conversation heaven I reckon!

SheydaMalfoy 06-18-2009 07:46 PM

Hahah, Whoopi is great (:

Awesome!! I love Whoopi! I didn't know she was a writer, but I'm not surprised...that woman can do everything. She's won a Grammy, Tony, Emmy, Golden Globe, and an Oscar! I hope she publishes something soon. :D

Never a huge fan of Whoopi, but at least she likes JK! That earns her a couple of points!

TeddyRemusLupin 06-19-2009 05:12 AM

Emma is English. She can speak French though...And Clemence Posey (Fleur) was born in France...Which is strange...They wanted an All English/British cast...Maybe they took her bcoz in the books they're from france...The Beauxbattons I mean.

I didn't know Whoopie was an author.

Ginny GL 06-19-2009 08:07 AM

I love Whoopi!!

I wonder when is Ms Rowling going to sit and write that Encilopaedia she promised with all the information missing in the books. There's so much we all want to learn about the characters, especially the eal things, not the publicitary stunts.

phoenix_tears 06-19-2009 01:47 PM

I love Whoopi !

Hermionespell 06-19-2009 02:29 PM
