The LA Times recently spoke to Daniel Radcliffe on the set of Deathly Hallows. They have today released his comments about The Hobbit and why he isn't interested in the project.

I think James should do it tooo XD and James has done some more fantasy aswell.

All the rumours on Hobbit Movie News and Information - TheOneRing.net - Forged by the Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien lead you to believe that Dan Radcliffe and James McAvoy and David Tennant are all neck and neck in starring in the Hobbit. Mr. Tennant has stated that he is a "no." And now, for the record, Dan has stated the same. So who, i wonder, will portray Bilbo?

What I understood was that he's tired of making fantasy, which admittedly, is rather understandable considering that he's beeng doing it for an entire decade. ^_^

But YAY for James McAvoy. I like him. =)

The way that Dan talks about no more wizard stuff is kinda sad... James is very good looking he should go for it!

I think Dan doesnt want the role of Bilbo Baggins, if it were offered to him, because he doesnt want to be typecast AND he wants to expand his acting repertoire in a variety of directions (i.e., Equus anyone?). Also, James McAvoy, from what I can tell, has not been offered the role as of right this very moment. His name was simply one of three being tossed around as good for the part....

I think that it's good that Daniel is moving away from the whole Fantasy Genre,

the only reason he's been connected to this project at all is cause of his height and because he looks quite like elijah wood. Go Dan!

James McAvoy would be awesome in that role. But then again so would Dan, but I can definitely see where he's coming from. Despite his uncanny resemblance to Elijah Wood (Frodo)...Dan's probably ready to do something new. And the Hobbit will be filming for a long time since they're splitting it into two movies.

But I love Dan's interviews!! :D

I adore James Mcavoy! I saw him in his play in March and I swear he looked right at me in the audience :xd:
He should definately play the role!

I think he's doing the right thing trying to distance himself from fantasy work. Besides, do you really want to be remembered for just genre work if you're trying to be taken seriously as an actor?

I think he should do something grittier and more noirish ... maybe a superhero ...

Daniel Radcliffe is ... Batman ... no? Whatever he does, I wish him luck. And David Tenant as Bilbo is funny ... LOL he's too tall. I don't know ... I keep thinking of Elijah Wood ... you need someone short and skinny no? That way they don't look funny when they're shrunk down in special fx ...

haha thats funny that anything else he'll be in won't have wizards in it! but you know, personally, i cant blame him...i mean, hes been a wizard for what? 13-14 years of his life already! lol :D

Wow. I think it would be so funny if Dan would do it..!

I can't really say how I feel about James appearing in The Hobbit because I'm not that familiar with his work. However, I can honestly say that if Dan wants to continue to work in films, the LAST thing he needs to appear in is something like The Hobbit. Unless he wants to continue in Harry Potter-like roles for the rest of his life.

I can totally see why Dan would not really want to do fantasy films anymore. Come on give him a break he has been doing them for how many years? Like ten. That is a long time to be doing fantasy. But I think James will do an amazing job. GO DAN!! and James!!!:voldie1:

Good For Dan!! I know he loves Harry and is grateful for all that has come from the movies, but he deserves to explore new opportunities!!

Kind of disappointing. But I dont really know who James is soooo...

I hope dan does some fantasy later on i understand not this second though! I love most of dans views and this is one i think he is right he needs to be able to expand!

luv James McAvoy! But Dan seriously...we know you are tired of the fantasy thing but there are other ppl that do consider it a interesting genre...love Pan's Labyrinth...so its not horrible. He says it in a way that well seems as if really never ever wants to touch on it ever again lol.

Thank God. No offence to Dan fans, I like him myself, but I don't think he'd be very good in the Hobbit. James would be amazing. He is such a great actor, especially in Shameless...such a good series.

I can see why he's sick of wizards. For half of his life some people know him as Harry Potter, The Wizard. It's got to get annoying hearing people ask you about your favorite spells and items if you were a wizard. Maybe he wants a new reputation...

I can't say I blame him. He's ready to move on to other roles, which he already began doing with Equus, My Boy Jack, and December Boys. He's supposed to shooting a new film after the last HP films about a reporter that was killed, based on a true story. Hope that becomes reality. I think he would be great (as he always is in whatever he does).

James McAvoy is pretty good alright...although he did let himself down a bit with Wanted....
