The Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen, admitted recently that he had written a song for the Harry Potter film series (he did note mention for which movie), called "I’ll Stand By You Always," that did not make the cut for any of the eight installments.

The Oscar- and Grammy-winning singer-songwriter was taking fan questions on BBC Radio 2 when the Harry Potter query came up, as part of his promotional tour for the release of his new memoir, Born to Run.

Quote:

Bruce Springsteen: They didn’t use it… You’ll have to ask them (why). It was pretty good. It was a song I wrote for my eldest son. It was a big ballad that was very uncharacteristic of something I’d sing myself. But it was something I thought would fit lovely. At some point I’d like to get it into a children’s movie of some sort because it was a pretty lovely song,”
The song was allegedly written all the way back in 2001, so it's safe to say Springsteen wrote it for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The story behind the song's rejection from the series was that author J.K. Rowling, at the time, and as per her contract with Warner Bros., did not want any commercial songs featured in the movies.
