Prisoner of Azkaban on Greatest Novels of All Time list
 

The Telegraph is today reporting that Prisoner of Azkaban featured in a list of the top ten Greatest Novels of All Time. The poll of 2000 readers was conducted by online retailer Play.com.

Too Cool! Those are all really good books. So glad to see HP in the top ten.

I agree w/ some of those books, but certainly not all.

Why is it Animal Farm? It's not a bad book, that's for sure, but I think 1984 is much better, both in style and metaphysics.

Nice to see the Prisoner up there, though. Not the one I would pick as the best novel of the series, but then again, I'm no literary expert like those who voted for The Da Vinci Code! :lmao:

To be fair though (and I'm nothing if not that!), The Da Vinci Code was, to an extent, quite readable. But all-time top five? Come on. I have more trouble figuring out my daily's Sudoku than the clues in that book. :D

But quite possibly this 2000-people poll conducted on the Internets is not the last word in literary criticism.

I'm very happy that one of the HP books is there, though I'm a bit surprised that it's Prisoner that was chosen and not one of the others.

I think it's a good list, I'm also glad to see 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wadrobe', 'Pride and Prejudice' and 'Lord of the Flies'.

i was just wondering, with all these greatest novels list, why do they keep lumping LOTR as just one entry and HP as 7 different entries? since HP is a series much like LOTR and Narnia shouldnt they just evaluate JKR's work as a whole and not piecemeal?

I think they should have one rule for all book series' and stick to that. Otherwise it's not fair. So yeah, I agree.

Well, to first comment on the topic, I'm not surprised that a Harry Potter is up there, but I wouldn't have put PoA there.

Secondly, I am very pleased with the top ten.

Thirdly, to the quoted comment. I'm not sure, but I think I remember hearing that LoTR was merged into one GIANT book and maybe that was what it was counted as. I could be wrong because Lord of the Rings is yet on my To Read: list.

Wait...It should be much higher! PoA is one of my favs.:). But LotR is very boring to read..

Although I like POA, I still think that some of the other books in the series are better. Personally, I liked HBP better than POA.

I agree with Steelsheen... This is about the best series of all times and I don't think that they should seperate the books.
