Potter stars back 'Make Poverty History'

Alan Rickman (Snape) & Emma Thompson (Trelawney) will feature in a 'click advert' showing their support for the very worthwhile 'Make Poverty History' campaign.

Quote:

Today in London and across the globe Make Poverty History launched the 'Click' ad. The advert uses a number of instantly recognisable celebrities from Brad Pitt to Cameron Diaz, Colin Firth to Emma Thompson, Kylie to P Diddy (to name but a few) who, click their fingers every 3 seconds. Each click symbolises the death of a child. Across the developing world, one child dies every three seconds from extreme poverty.
The campaign aims to encourage G8 governments to cancel debts, make trade fairer and give more and better aid to developing countries.

The 'click' advert can be viewed here.

To get involved in the campaign, please go here. From this page you can join the campaign, email Tony Blair, send a postcard to the prime minister and get a white 'Make Poverty History' band.

Information on how to get a white band, can be found here.

Thanks to *Snivellus* for the tip!

I want one too but it's weird because you have to make your own if you live outside UK ...or something :dunce:

EmmaRiddle 04-01-2005 01:36 PM

^ That's only if you can't get one. They do provide international addresses from which you can purchase them from.

This campaign is international though, other countries are a part of the G8 coalition and so will have their own means of providing the bands to people from their countries.

owczarnia 04-01-2005 06:10 PM

Don\'t be so condescending!

As Desmond Tutu once said, if you make the noise deafening then the politicians have no choice BUT to listen.

Thanks, it\'s an extremely worthy cause. We might be adding a banner on SS to show our support for the campaign.

It\'s great that word of this is getting out to more people, especially worldwide. This needs to be changed. On a side note, the advert, in my opinion, is extremely powerful and well done.

OtterySt.Catchpole 04-01-2005 09:36 PM

It\'s in all the little things WE do everyday...

In a perfect world this would happen.

*sighs, rolls up his sleeves* Well. Let\'s get cracking people...this world isn\'t going to make itself perfect.

One person can make a difference...but a bunch are better...*winks*

It\'s true. I couldn\'t help the tears.

LadyLiscenia 04-01-2005 09:42 PM

Very well done, hits home like those "I am a stroke" commercials... those always make me weepy, and this one did, too. Alan Rickman\'s such a fox, too.
