| | | Potter books shelved at German school
A school in Chemnitz, Germany, has taken the Harry Potter books off the syllabus after parents objected to their use on "religious grounds". The parents claimed that the representation of religion in the series offended their Christianity. The depiction of magic and mysticism was also said to "disturb" parents.
The book has now been replaced with Rennschwein Rudi Rüssell (Rudi Ruessell the Racing Pig). However, children whose parents don't object to the Potter novels are being allowed to work with them in small groups. Quote:
The education-policy spokeswoman in the legislature's Left party parliamentary group criticized the school's action as "an act of self-censure."
"(By acquiescing to the request,) the school director is essentially inviting religious fundamentalists to interfere with the educational and academic goals of state-funded schools, according to their discretion," Julia Bonk said.
"The lesson plans of state-funded schools should not be subject to approval by people who hold all possible religious convictions," she said.
Quote:
A representative of the Lutheran Church of Saxony, Harald Lamprecht, told dpa news agency that in his opinion, the Potter series were "magnificent books" and "highly respectable" stories that depict the fight of good versus evil.

Yeah same here. Don't understand how people can say/do things when their actions have no firm reasons as to why they did so. |

We spent time here. We made friends here. That's a part of us.
Cause Hogwarts is bigger than any of us, of any of it's founders,
and it's going to be around long after we're gone.
Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.
That's the thing about Hogwarts.
No matter how long you're away from it, there's always a way back. |

Ok, I have a lot of Christian friends and they all love HP! We even go into groups to talk about certian aspects of HP in our daily lives, it's quite inspirational. This brings back a certian woman's opinion doesn't it? I wonder if she's in on this in any way, you never know...*thinks*

OH come on! I'm a christian, and not only that but my family is very religious, and we all read the HP books and love them! It is a personal opinion I guess, but I DON'T AGREE with what these people do JUST because they don't like the books, the totally take them away from others.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Bueller B. Betsworth Fifth Year | Jor!Jor! Queen Hermidana Parents are so ridiculous. And the school is even more ridiculous for going along with the arguments that the parents presented. They are books and no harm can come of them.
I just don't understand. I mean if they feel threatened by fictional characters and a fictional story, then maybe their religious beliefs aren't as firm as they believe them to be. Maybe that's why they find it so disturbing. O_o People are so odd. |

| Ultimate Potterite Original original Oh! Stuff it, would you?
Honestly, you'd think that the devil had deemed this book worthy of his essence or something. People seriously need to calm down. HP is a fantasy book. You hear that? F-A-N-T-A-S-Y. Not real, fake, made up, imaginary. They really should just chill out. HP is a children's book about magic, and that doesn't mean that it is against their "religion" or whatever they are saying. They really should take into account that it is a work of fiction...
These people are so horrible. |

It's just a made up story...but I guess I understand what these parents mean...since their children are very young, they'll be influenced by anything...and this anything is Harry Potter...
But also...Harry Potter is fictional...

Okay so some people don't bother to read and are only after sensationalism.
Now for the poster that said " I can understand why they want to ban them, christians shouldnt really read things about non-natural beings but that doesnt stop me." Are you for real???? I am a serious christian and that has nothing whatsoever to do with reading a FANTASY childrens book. Aren't angels and apostles and devils non natural beings. Think about this stuff before you out it in writing. I can never understan anyone who would want to ban any book for any reason. It takes away your free agency.
