Potter actor used for crime fighting The image of actor Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid) is being used by New Zealand police to catch a teenage burglar plaguing the Christchurch area. Police clarified that the actor, known widely for his beloved portrayal of the gentle half-giant Hagrid, is not being suspected of any crimes. However the 16 year old suspect bears a strong resemblance to him, and due to a New Zealand law that prevents using photos of juvenile criminals in wanted posters, police have resorted to using the actor’s image with an additional explanation printed on the notice: “Robbie Coltrane is not the burglar but imagine him aged 16 with lank greasy hair and you have the picture.” Coltrane was unavailable for comment at the time of publication. Below is a copy of the wanted poster with Coltrane's image: http://www.snitchseeker.com/gallery/...an_787133c.jpg Source: BBC News |
yeah i was just checking this out in the gallery and was thinking what the?? Novel idea though! |
Lol, at first I just saw the picture without reading above it, and all I could think was WTF? xD |
haaaaaaaaahh nice way to catch people but didnt Robbie disagree |
Interesting... :P  Strange way to do it, but clever. ;) |
Rofl "Robbie Coltrane is not the burglar but..." sounds like great material for an Internet meme. "Robbie Coltrane is not the burglar but we're going to arrest him anyway." "Robbie Coltrane is not the burglar but he once smashed a guitar." "Robbie Coltrane is not the burglar but aliens exist." @ topic: Robert Coltrane is not the burglar but it's a novel idea nonetheless. I wonder what he thinks about this. |
ok that's pretty odd. I wonder what Robbie thinks of this too. I imagine that he agreed to it though, I can't see them being able to legally use his photo like that w/o permission. |
lol......funny..... |
Ha ha. Funny. Interesting method police use these days... |
Ok panic attack goes away now... |
I think that it's a little weird that they're using a picture of Robbie Coltrane to help capture a 16 year-old burglar. I really don't think it's right nor do I think that it will help. Maybe just a detailed description next time? Anyway, I wonder what Robbie thinks of this... |
Those wacky kiwi crimefighters!! Hagrid, indeed. And a 16 year old resembles him? Please, if a 16 year old resembles a 50 plus year old, he needs prison time and some Botox |
Am i the only one who find this hilarious?:lmao: |
OMG! *breathes* When I saw that in the gallery I nearly had a heart attack until I read up in here. I wonder what Robbie has to say about this .... |

But it's a bit weird... I wonder what Robbie Colrane thinks...:hagrid: |
Poor Robbie! |
HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA Can you imagine waking up to find that your picture is on a wanted sign .. and then captioned "oh no, hes not the real one.." LMAO what a random thing... |
Haaaahahahaha thats hilarious. |
i don't see how that is right for the to use someone else's picture to catch a criminal. maybe they should change their laws so they can use the child's actual picture instead of using a innocent man's picture!! what kind of crap is that? |
This is just really weird. Hmm.... It doesn't seem as if they should be able to do that. I don't think this is right at all. |
hahaha that poor kid looking like hagrid :) |
Surely Robbie allowed this, and sounds kind of funny. |
well the police are quite imaginative aren't they? |
OMG !~ Amusing ! Tks , |
Oh, poor New Zealanders, nobody in the country who could draw a portrait? |
