I think PoA stands a great chance at the Visual Effects. I, Robot doesn't come anywhere near PoA (think scenery, think Buckbeak, think the whole flying scene, think the forest). The effects are so gritty and naturalistic that they merge into the film well so that sometimes you're unsure as to what is real and what's computer generated and that's the sign of good artists. Even though Spiderman is going for the comic look and you obviously can't try and naturalise spiderman flying through the air, the effects were just too obvious for my taste.
I'd love to think PoA and John Williams would win the Music Award because it is the best score yet however he does have stiff competition.

I really hope that John Williams will win the Oscar, because the PoA soundtrack is the best ever! And since he wont be doing the GoF it would be so great if he won!
And go Special FX!

Now that ROTK is out, POA really should have a chance. This is the first time that Harry Potter movie is ever nominated for Oscars, isn't it?
Total respect to Alfonso!
John Williams definitely deserves it! His entire compositions including his latest for POA theme song are brilliant!
The visual effects were excellent too. Bestest Luck Poa!

In my opinion PoA should've been nominated for more. I also noticed that Day After Tomorrow isn't on there, which was better than many on the list. I think the list of films on the Oscar list this year is pathetic, I mean Finding Neverland was one of the BIGGEST flops ever! Plus, many of the films, including the Avaitor, haven't been out in the UK for long, so how can we judge these films?
I, Robot was better too, as well as other films which didn't make it onto the list. I don't think I'll be watching the Oscars this year as we all know that the Avaitor will win 'cos all the people in the academy love those types of films. PoA should win the best score film without question, the other scores just don't compare. Hopefully, because John Williams is a big name in the soundtrack world they could win it. But, they'll have a real tough time getting the special effects one, even though they were good, I, Robot were better, I thought. And in general they don't give awards out to sequels like Spiderman 2.
Disappointed to say the least!

I hope PoA wins Best Score, though I can't really judge the competition. I've only seen "The Passion" among those four, and I believe it has a very wonderful soundtrack as well. But, I think nothing can beat "Double Trouble".
For Special Effects, Spiderman 2 is PoA's toughest competition. Well, I'm just glad that PoA was nominated.
Thanks for the info, Emma! :sorcerer:

Disappointed to say the least! Finding Neverland may not have been a box office smash but that doesn't mean it wasn't a good film. It was amazing. Not all box office smashes are worthy of awards, meany actually aren't.
We're not supposed to judge them - these are American awards so films such as The Aviatir and Million Dollar Baby have been out there for quite a while. It's like with the BAFTA's, they include nominations for films which may not have appeared in the US yet.
I, Robot did make it onto the list. I don't think it's worth an Oscar at all, it doesn't really stand out and the storyline was hardly unique - resembled Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, far too much.
I don't think PoA deserved much more. Perhaps "Best Director" but the script was, in parts, awful, there weren't that many costumes to speak of and there weren't any really striking performances. I think perhaps it should've had a shot at "Art Direction" and definitely "Cinematography". It wasn't good enough for "Best Picture" and neither for "Make-up".
However, I'm confident that with Art and Cinematography and possibly even Director, GoF will get a look in when the awards come along where it can be nominated for Oscars.

i agree with Emma about the visual effects..POA were just amazing and I think it could really take the award!!
as for the music, John Williams score was the most amazing I've ever heard...it does have competition, but in my heart it should definitely win!!! John Williams isn't doing GOF and i think he really deserves to win it for a Harry Potter film!!
i'm soo excited about these Oscar nominations!! Harry Potter films have never gotten them before which I believe unfair..because they are amazing!!
i believe they should have had more nominations but with GOF coming out in November I believe next years awards could hold even more nominations!! i'll be watching!!
POA must win!!!

Congratulations PoA!!! I really have to agree that the Musical Score and the Visual Effects of the movie were GREAT and I really hope that they do win!!! (Pretty glad that this year the Academy is giving more chances to summer blockbuster movies...usually they ignore those movies and never put it in important categories)... |
