Plagiarism lawsuit against J.K. Rowling from Willy the Wizard author estate dismissed The family and estate of late author Adrian Jacobs, who wrote a short story called Willy The Wizard in 1987 about a young magician who learns of his powers and attends a magical school, took J.K. Rowling to court in 2009 under the accusation of plagiarism. Jacobs' estate attempted to sue Rowling for £500 million, claiming that she had stolen many of the ideas for the Harry Potter series from Willy the Wizard. Scholastic Inc, who published the seven-book Harry Potter saga in the United States, have now announced that the lawsuit has been dismissed. Quote:

No surprises there. Any judge with a brain would see this whole lawsuit as some lame attempt to get money. |
Why do people keep doing this and they when they get the lawsuit realize their book is nothing like HP. Please let's just give J.K all the love and fanaticism, and credit she deserves for creating Harry Potter, I hope less people will stop saying that she had copied off of them. |
I've heard several rumors about stuff like this...interesting...glad she wasn't sued |
Harry potter is always better than willy the wizard |
Never read Willy the Wizard, but I'm glad this lawsuit's over. And I thought we were past these darn things already too! :gasp: |
"Brilliant imagination" is right. Go us! :woot: |
WHAT!!!!! Jo would never do that!!! (i think) |
Good that's over now! Let Jo enjoy in her success, they just want to take some money from her. Jealous! :) ♥ |
Jo would never do something like that! I am so glad the lawsuit was dropped. Just let her have her sucess you jealous people!!!! I love you Jo :) |
Well I'm glad that this has been resolved! It's kind of ridiculous to think J.K. Rowling would plagiarize a book. I mean, come on! |
finally :woot: good for Rowling ^_^ |
It's like the discussion between Star Wars and Battleship Galactica more than 30 years ago. Similarities can't be considered plagiarism. If that was the case, every story since forever would be a copy of some greek classic story or such. |
God, I'm so glad this lawsuit is over! But seriously, why would some people do this? It's weird! |
I don't know why they have to compare Harry Potter to Willy The Wizard. They both have Wizards in them and everything but JK Rowling created HP completely different. |
and clearly she plagiarized from ever book containing a wizard ever! *rolls eyes* Although, I do see the influence of Lord of the Rings in a few places:yes: At least, that is what certain characters/creatures/and situations remind me of |
I don't really care.. |
So glad this is over. This case was really absurd but fortunately the judge realized that right at the beginning :D |
Haha, we all know he had no case to fall back on! This was just a waste of time and money! What was he trying to do? Humiliate JK like The second brother Humiliated Death? |
I read a fact book about HP and JK and it said there have been alot of accusations and stuff. Clearly an author wouldn't mean to directly lift from someone else's work, they want their work to be original and unique so its just silly. Of course if there is obvious plagiarism then that's different but....oh I don't know. I'm just glad it's over. |
willy the wizard huh? oh well, there will always be litigious folks around. |
Glad this is all over  |
Hmmmmm......funny that this little lawsuit didn't pop up until 2009!!! It's not like the family had never heard of Harry Potter before. O.o It's all over the friggin' world!!! And wasn't that the same year that Rowling was announced as one of the most wealthy people in Britain? Coincidence? I THINK NOT!!! lol |
Judge Scheindlin? You mean Judge Judy? :P Anyway, how convenient that they apparently need 500 million, (half a BILLION pounds), and Rowling is one of the most wealthy people in Britain. What a strangely enormous number, eh? I saw this getting thrown out of court the second I heard about it. |
Well I'm glad that's all over |
