Phoenix film profits in record time? With $330 million worldwide in tickets sold, Order of the Phoenix appears to have already earned back it's $150 budget! This is days ahead of the other films, with Goblet of Fire coming in second (which also had the same budget). Phoenix opened at 4,285 theaters (over 9,000 screens) in the USA alone, the most for any Potter film. The last four films have opened on from 3,672 to 3,678 theaters - over 600 fewer. With more screens, top reviews and a shorter run-time Phoenix is well on its way to being the top performer for the franchise to date! Here is how the other films looked after their first weekend (USA only): 5 (OotP) = $140 mill 4 (GoF) = $102 mill 3 (PoA) = $93 mill 1 (PS/SS) = $90 mill 2 (CoS) = $88 mill And the total worldwide box office for each at the end of their theater run (OotP not included): 1 (PS/SS) = $976 m(illion) 4 (GoF) = $892 m 2 (CoS) = $876 m 3 (PoA) = $789 m Personally, I perdict Order of the Phoenix will be the first Potter film since the first to surpass $900 million worldwide. We'll find out around in about 6 months... Source: BoxOfficeMojo EDIT: I should explain that approximately 50% of ticket sales (the "box office") goes to theater owners. This is why a film with a $150 million budget must gross more than $300 million in the box office in order for the studio to make a profit. |
I forgot to mention that as of right now, these figures are only estimates but the official numbers will not be far off. |
Woot! OotP rocked and I'm not surprised it has such high numbers. I too think it will surpass $900 million. :D |
Ooo! OoTP will do well. Big numbers! |
Wow.. thats really impressive. |
That's great!! It was an AWESOME movie |
Wow alot of money |
Wow, that's a lot of money! I think they'll make even more than with PS *nods* |
hahaha yeah and I just saw it today for the third time!!! OMG It really is an awesome movie..totally amazing,.. |
Dang. That is a lot. It's interesting to think about what you could do with so much money. Like, if this movie was never made and everyone donated their ticket money to some charity or something, no one would be homeless! But, that would never happen. Oh well. I liked the movie, anyway... |
Wow. -mouth drops open- |
That's amazing! |
whooaaa there! those are somee BIGGGG numba's! gah! |
Wow! That's a lot of money. Go OotP! |
holy cow!!!! wooohoooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
I don't think the comparisons are correct. The other movies earned those monies in 3 days while OOTP has earned it's money in 5 days and in a lot more theatres. OOTP's 3 day earning is approximately $80m which is the lowest of all the Potter movies. However, it reached the $140m mark quicker than any of the others so I feel as if it's comparing apples and oranges. I kinda wish the movie had opened on a Friday so I could see how it really did. I guess I'll just have to use it's total box office figure a couple months from now to truly judge. |

I completely agree. It is absolutely incredible how fast this film is making money. It's fantastic! |

That's alot of money, really awesome |
That's...incredible |
This is inceadible!!!!! I knew it would do brilliantly i was soooo good!! |
that's because OOTP rocks. |
|
yes its hard to compare cuz it opened on a wednesday, but think it only made 88 mil this weekend because it had already opened wednesday and those first and second day numbers do a lot..so if you compared it just on the first three days it'd probably the biggest opening of them all anyway...I know its going to beat SS! |
