Oxfam to auction first edition Chamber of Secrets
 

The Telegraph reports that Oxfam are to hold an auction at Bonhams, Oxford, England, on May 20th, featuring books left at their charity shops, one of which is a first edition copy of Chamber of Secrets. The novel is expected to fetch between £300 - £500.

I'm not very familiar with that currency. Does anyone know how much that is in US dollars?

depends on the exchange rate but it's approx $US700 - $US1200, although i would have thought it would go for more?
Reading it again - its 2nd hand etc, so could be in poor cond?

And it isn't autographed.

I certainly thought that a first edition would go for at least triple their estimate. I guess we'll see.

You'd think that their estimate would be much higher than that. I guess it isn't so high seeming it isn't autographed.

I hope that the book is sold for more than what they're estimating.

yeah i expected that it would've fetched a higher price given that it is a first ed copy, i could only guess its been pretty beat up.

you know, they could triple the asking price if JKR would sign it. it may not be mint condition anymore, but JKR's siggy+ first ed copy= mucho money.

I hope the book is auctioned off for heaps and heaps of money.
