    In the United States alone, the hardcover edition of Harry Potter and the
Order of the Phoenix sold 5 million copies in the first 24 hours, making it
the fastest selling book in publishing history.  The book hit stores at
midnight on June 21, 2003.  With an unprecedented initial print run of 6.8
million and a second printing of 1.7 million pre-publication, Harry Potter and
the Order of the Phoenix broke all industry records previously set in July
2000 by Rowling's fourth novel, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.  There
are currently 12.5 million copies of the fifth Harry Potter book in print.
    Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has garnered extraordinary
reviews.  In her New York Times review Michiko Kakutani said "...the author's
bravura storytelling skills and tirelessly inventive imagination soon take

Thats great!! Im not surprised though, I must say. I read the list of top ten childrens books is the Sunday paper and even before it came out in paperback it was number 5 or something and GoF was like 7th

I think that most people bought the book when it first came out implying that they got the hardback edition. I dont understand why they bring out the paperback so long after the hardback. I mean if everyones got that then whos left to splash out on the paperback. Anyway hardback is more enduring than paperbacks. I've got a few and i can tell you they are in a right state but i suppose they are still readable. :hello:

correct me if im wrong.. aren't papperback cheaper than hardcover meaning people who just cant buy the hardcover will be able to buy the paperback.
Besides its also convenient for thoses parents who dont want to waste there kids lunch money on such a great book.

Yeah, but they have enough money to splash out on crappy clothes that we wont like or wear and nights out on the town for themselves. Most places have probably have reduced the hardback anyway. I only got mine for £12.99. So for all those parents who havent bought it for your kids do so now cause think of all the learning beneits and it will keep us busy for a couple of hours. So if you decide to go out dont bother calling the babysitter. We promise we'll be good{crosses fingers behind back} Athough i dont think that it applies to me cause im 16 and am very capable of looking after myself but its so generous of me to think of those that do have a babysitter. :lol:

That rocks! I also love that whenever the movies come out, all the HP books take up the top spots again! The movies turn more and more people onto the books which is great cause the books are the best!

that's great!! for my summer reading, I was supposed to read a book from the best sellers list....so I would be all set now! i was hoping ootp would be on the best sellers list. well, anyway, i transferred out of honors, so now i dont even have to read a book from the best sellers list. oh well, i'm reading ootp for the 4th time anyway! :lol:

I try to get the hard back and paperback of my fave books. I read the paperback at school cause it fits in my school bag better and use the hardback at home.
