| | | No age limit for Equus audience Equus producer David Pugh announced yesterday that there will be no age limit for audience members of Dan Radcliffe’s new play, despite graphic violence and explicit nude scenes. This decision goes against other West End theatres’ policies and is expected to raise some highly controversial debate. Quote:
We will offer parental guidance and we will point out that some scenes in Equus are unsuitable for children. But there will not be a ban on them attending the performance. Every child is different and they will react to the play differently.
I am not going to start playing the game where I say you can't come because you are 11 or you can't come because you are 14.
Who the hell am I to start saying that?
I saw the play at 14 and it changed my life. If I hadn't seen it I wouldn't be producing it now.
Equus, which centers around the relationship between a psychiatrist and his disturbed teenage patient, includes nudity and violent images of the teen blinding horses with a metal spike. Quote:
The nudity and those scenes are an essential part of the story. We are not doing it as an excuse to show Harry Potter's willy.
Daniel is fully committed to the role and he has not asked for any special favours.
While some critics don’t feel Dan’s acting ability is up to the challenging role, Equus author, Peter Shaffer, isn’t among them. For years, Shaffer has refused to back other productions of his award-winning play, but was so impressed by Dan’s audition that he fully supports this one.
David Pugh explains: Quote:
It wasn't a question of finding a play for Daniel to do because we knew it would be a hit.
I have been wanting to do a production of Equus for eight years and the problem has always been finding the right boy.
When Daniel performed for us at the workshop we couldn't take our eyes off him.

Hmm...I don't think there is anything wrong with it. Its just going to have to be the parents decision on wether their child will be able to attend. Children do what their parents say, so if their parents say no then they won't go.
Most parents will probably not allow their kids to attend so I don't see how it is wrong.
As for Dan's acting, I'm so sick and tired of hearing that he can't act. If he can't act why do people go and watch the movies? I know I wouldn't waste my money going to see a film if the main actor didn't know how to act. He can act, and lets not forget that he started doing HP at a very young age. To me he has only gotten better as he has grown older. Experience is what will make him great.
Equus sounds like its going to be a great play, and I know Dan will be great as well.

I can't wait to see it. So excited. I'm 14 and will have no problem with the scenes in question. That 2nd quote made me laugh!

Kids see much worse things on the news than are going to be in that play. It's up to the parents to make the decision.

I think it's good that they are not stopping children from entering. But i still think that sometimes it's not good for children to see some performances because they ruin it for others when they get silly. like when i went to see romeo and juliet last year, there were loads of 10 year olds there, and they kept giggling at the "rude" bits. It was really offputting for the actors, and just annoying for the audience trying to enjoy the play.

Oh that is really cool. I was SO positive the theatre company would in no way let anyone under sixteen enter that theatre, but it definetely makes sense about letting the "younger crowd" in since the play will be appreciated by all ages. I must say though that I personally would be more nervous if I knew that kids who truly believed I was harry potter saw me on stage naked, even if it's part of the play. Well, I REALLY wish I could go.*sighs*

We spent time here. We made friends here. That's a part of us.
Cause Hogwarts is bigger than any of us, of any of it's founders,
and it's going to be around long after we're gone.
Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.
That's the thing about Hogwarts.
No matter how long you're away from it, there's always a way back. |

| Awesome i wish i could go and see it. I think that it is a good idea not to make an age limit because it should be up to the parents whether or not their child will see it. I know kids have seen worse on television. |

| Ultimate Potterite Original original Wow! Really! I was wondering whether there would be an age limit or not. I'm surprised, but I'm pleased as well. That way, you can see Dan play-acting. And it's also good because parents and their kids can decide whether they want to see it and still have the option to see it even though it is a bit...revealing. |

Good thing too, its not like its pornographic, its art the same way micheal angelo's david and the venus de milo is artistic. Also if its a part of the story of a disturbed teenager then it really would give it drama. And Dan's acting is really good and I cant see any problems with it considering he's still a teenager.

The play isn't about Daniel's private parts...it is about the art of storytelling....One's parents should be the determining factor as to whether a person under 18 is suitable.....it depends upon the person......Noone should censor art.

Well, it's a bit wrong. However, it's a good idea that there's no age limit. Because some people that are younger might have wanted to see it.

Just the simple fact that a horse gets blinded by a spike completely throws off my interest for the play, but I'll put that aside.
I've heard it's a fantastic play, although indeed not suitable for children, but if parents will allow their children to see it, then they have the guidance to do so, so long as a parent is there with them. At least, I hope a parent is with them.

Well, I think they are so right, on leting the decisition on the parent. because you teach your kid the way you want to.. so it's the right thing to do.. and about dan being naked on stage... wel... I would be really embarassed... but it's to him..

Too bad I'm just a tad far away from England. If anyone flies over, let me know, I'll stow away in your suitcase for a little.
