okay i know she was wrong for trying to ban the harry potter books because i've seen kids who are not interesting in reading AT ALL lock their selves in a room and won't come out untill they finish it (over exagerating) JKR is really a heroe in my eyes. but idiot of the year? that's really kind of harsh. she was standing up for something she felt... strongly about. No, she should have NEVER tried to stop kids from reading it but is it really fair to call her an idiot? Poor lady, she's probaly crying right now. Now don't get me wrong, i'm not on her side but i am not on the side who's calling her an idiot. i would've suggested that she voiced her opinions but didn't try to ban them. well actually number one i would tell her to read them. is this is how it's going to be? when someone totally mucks it up we're going to announce there faliure by calling them idiots? She was being utterly ignorant. I don't feel bad for her in the least- she deserved it. Is it really so bad to call someone an 'idiot' when they are going around falsely accusing authors and books of being satanic? Or 'wiccan' which isn't even an evil religion. She's lucky she doesn't have it worse. And if she's crying about it she needs to grow up. She could have stood up for something without insulting other people. She could have kept her family away from Harry Potter. Everyone else, however, is none of her business.
She voiced her opinion, and we voiced ours.

I don't feel bad for her either. It would be one thing if she had actually read the books. But she didn't even have the decency to do that. If she had, she would be entitled to an educated opinion. Hwever, she heard 'witchcraft' and 'magic' and assumed that these books were evil. Common sense woman, if over half of the WORLD reads and loves these books, and they have made movies based off of them, do you honestly think that they would be promoting devil worship? I think not. She was showing off her ignorance pure and simple, and now the country and the world, knows her for what she really is: an 'idiot'. Congratulations Laura Mallory, for being the biggest idiot of this year.

Here's my two cents:
If she would have researched what she was debating, perhaps she wouldn't have gotten the IDIOT OF THE YEAR award. Harry Potter may involve the casting of spells and the saying of incantations, but it does not promote it. Had she picked up a book about the Wiccan religion, she would have realised that it is in no way, shape, or form a demonic or satanic religion. It is merely based on energies and...stuff (so I'm told). To claim anything HARRY POTTER related as satanic is unfair. If them casting spells is satanic, what about all the books about faeries? What about Ella Enchanted, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty? Ban Harry Potter and you automatically ban the rest. This means kids have nothing to read.

I see everyone is entitled to an opinion and i am very angry at her for not reading the books. Please, they're not wiccan they're fantasy. but i still don't know, i would easily call her an idiot to her face but i don't know if i would post it all over the glove.
