LA Times interviews Jessie Cave

The LA Times has published a new interview with Jessie Cave, in which she talks about how she got the role as Lavender Brown in Half-Blood Prince and more.

Jessie begins by talking about the final audition, where she had to improvise with a plate of biscuits (cookies) and Rupert Grint.

Quote:

What did you end up doing?
I thought, ‘I’m just going to go for it.’ And I think Rupert was a bit scared, really. The biscuits were past the sofa, away from me so I kind of just tangled myself around Rupert and just made it really obvious that I didn’t really care about the biscuits. I just wanted to be near him. I think he was quite scared.

She then touches on the relationship Lavender has with Hermione;

She does put up a good fight.
She’s almost the catalyst in setting up Hermione and Ron in the final chapter of the saga really. Without Lavender, they wouldn’t have been forced together, to acknowledge their feelings so abruptly because she definitely caused that.

Jessie also reveals when we first see her in the film;

How is Lavender introduced?
She’s in the Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes shop and she’s kind of ogling Ron. She’s been going to school with them for years, but it’s not that she’s making her interests known.

She also adds that she was a fan of the books long before she was cast in the role;

Were you already a 'Harry Potter' fan when you auditioned for the part?
Oh, yes! I’m one of five in my family and we’ve all gone through the books at different paces. I read ‘Half-Blood Prince’ before I knew anything about the auditions. So to have already read the character was so great. Also, my little brothers and sisters are so excited, and proud. It’s impacted their lives in a really nice way. So I’m really grateful for it.

Did any of them get to go with you to the set?
I brought them all on set but my little sister, she’s 11, she was the one who was in awe of everything. Jim Broadbent was there, and Daniel Radcliffe. I brought her into the Potions classroom and I signaled Daniel to wave at her without her seeing. And then Daniel waved and she thought he had done that for no reason and she was in seventh heaven. She was absolutely star struck. She almost fainted when she saw Emma [Watson] in the corridor. It is so bizarre to actually meet them because, you know, they’re on posters everywhere. It’s so weird. My sister’s got sticker books of them and then to actually meet them? There’s actually a new sticker book with me in it, so she’s got stickers of me now. It’s so sweet. I can’t believe I’m actually a sticker.

At least now we know what she did with the biscuit ;)

she is cute...i like her... she insists that it is because of her that Ron and Hermione come together...in the books it did not feel like that...not really...

That is sweet i love what dan did!

Im glad it's had a positive impact on her life...not visa versa. Im not crazy about Lavender's character but that's just the character. Jessie's a pretty girl and im glad she got the part!

This is true!!! I read somewhere that Ruppert only met her that day and to do that!!

Nice insight into Lavender's role, and I loved the comment about Jessie on a sticker!

This was a great interview. She seems to have a lot of personality, and a very unique way of looking at her character.

Jessie seems really sweet,shame she's playing a character that Ron/Hermione shippers won't like much.... ;)

Awesome interview!! I think it's hilarious that she scared the crap out of Rupert during her audition. I wonder if she was supposed to interact with him or if she just did that on a whim. Whatever it was...it worked because she got the role.

I think it's awesome that she was a huge fan before she got the role! I'm so jealous!

I can't wait to see this movie!!! :D

She is so lucky to have worked with all of them, i would kill for a role like that.

That is so cool! I can only imagine what it's like...and wish i could have been her!
