Summary:
JKR nominated for Spirit of Scotland Top Scot award!!!

Article:

Her books have sold more than a quarter of a billion copies, have been translated into more than 60 languages and her estimated personal wealth is said to be around £300 million, making her richer than the Queen.

JK Rowling is one woman publishing phenomenon but it could be said that her greatest achievement is not the sheer volume of books sales, or the size of her bank account but the way she has revolutionised children's enthusiasm for reading.

But life was not always magical for Joanne Kathleen Rowling. She has had some tough times but the one thing she never did was give up on her writing.

Her rags to riches story is now legendary. In the early 1990s, Rowling moved to Edinburgh after splitting from her Portuguese husband. The idea for Harry Potter came to her during a train journey whilst on a visit to her family. Little did she know then that this flash of inspiration would turn out to be the Dickens of the 21st century.

Living on just £69 a week social security, the then fledgling writer penned her first magical words in various Edinburgh cafes. The result was Harry Potter and the Philospher's Stone .

Then from bestseller to blockbuster - Hollywood came knocking. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the third Harry Potter book to be turned in to a movie and is due for release next June. The first two films, The Philosopher's Stone and The Chamber of Secrets were massive box office hits - so far raking in a combined total of around £700 million.

Rowling regards herself as an adopted Scot and has been loyal to the country she calls home and like many celebrities she is also a staunch campaigner for charity. The author is patron of the MS Society Scotland which is calling for a national standard of care for those with the disease, which claimed the life of her own mother at the age of 45.

The lastest Harry Potter adventure released in June became the fastest selling book of all time. The author has already started on the sixth and penultimate Harry Potter novel and plans for the fourth Harry Potter film is already underway.
