Don't let them scam you!

It's sad but true that there will always be scam artists seeking to take advantage of innocent people. Buyers beware! In fact, maybe we should all boycott E-Bay until they begin to behave responsibly!:poke::evillaugh

*re states what I said earlier*

It's not EBay's fault. They are not liable legally. It is the SELLER who is giving EBay, and the customers, false information. Don't attack EBay for the people dumb enough to purchase "autographed" merchandise off of someguy29 on EBay. EBay does not have to, nor do they, inspect the merchandise. It is the Buyers Responsibility to watch for people like that. If the Buyer purchases an "autographed" item from someguy29 and it turns out to be a fake, then they need to report it to BOTH EBay and the police. If EBay recieves continuous complaints from Customers of someguy29 then they can suspend his account/prosecute/whatever they are legally entitled to do.

Don't just blame a huge company, take some responsibility for your own actions as well. Honestly, why anyone would trust that an autographed item would actually be real is unknown to me.

I've purchased things off EBay before, EBay does act responsibly, it's the sellers you need to watch out for.

rupertfan 09-08-2005 09:09 AM

Agreed. I mean, millions of people use Ebay every day. It'd be impossible to go through and check everything listed. It would take days. Its your own responsibility when getting on there as to what you buy. No one else made you buy that 'autographed' book without checking it out first. If this happens to you, take it up with Ebay about the person who sold the forged item, because that's strictly against Ebay's policies. They will not only be removed from Ebay and owe a fine, but then you can legally prosecute them (which is what all of us would do, I'm sure).

ruperts_sweetheart 09-08-2005 12:07 PM

Leeness 09-08-2005 03:00 PM

mysterious 09-08-2005 03:06 PM

Kitty Loves Steps 09-08-2005 04:20 PM

*Snivellus* 09-08-2005 05:44 PM

It's so sad that people would try and fake things just to get money - but it has always been like that and I doubt it will ever stop...

SiriuslyInLove 09-08-2005 06:08 PM

^^ it really is sad that ppl would do that, and use other ppl and take advantage of the uninformed and truly fanatic.

beatboxing_chipmunk 09-08-2005 10:45 PM

That would suck if you got a fake autograph or something.

AmerAzn_USMC_Lover 09-08-2005 10:56 PM

It's good of J.K. Rowling to recognize the fact that people are doing anything to make a little bit of money. I just feel horrible for the people who have already fallen to the tactics of the greedy!

lild_155 09-09-2005 12:03 AM

That was really nice of her

#1DanFan 09-09-2005 02:02 AM

It's kinda sad that people would be that desperate for money, I mean, my family and I have been broke before, but not broke enough to do something that low.

Lady_Jezz 09-09-2005 02:42 PM

I can't imagine why anyone would try to sell fake things like that. Than again, can't imagine why anyone would want to buy things like that, I mean, c'mon, you know you're being tricked...that's human mentallity...making profit of other people

Minevra 09-12-2005 08:10 PM
