Indian Harry Potter pandal infringes copyright

Organisers of the FD Block Puja in Salt lake are being threatened with legal action over a decision to use the Harry Potter world as a theme for their pandal - they face being sued for Rs 20 lakh. Today they received summons from Delhi High Court asking for them to appear in court to explain their decision. The pandal is a Hogwarts replica and as such a case has been filed against them by J.K.Rowling. They will appear in court on October 12th.

“They have asked us to explain why we decided on the theme without taking permission from the copyright holders. They have even asked for a compensation of Rs 20 lakh,” said Mr Hiranmoy Roychoudhury, president of the FD Block Puja Association. The association as well as other respondents have decided to go to New Delhi and apologise before the court. “This is not being done for any commercial purpose,” he said.

yeah, it came out in the papers today.
The pandal organisers are really nervous and stuff over this whole issue. They made a replica of the Hogwarts castle and used HP movie pictures inside. That's why Warner Bros. are suing them as well for the movie stuff.

I live in the same city so hopefully I'll be able to see Hogwarts :D

It is a good thing they decided to do this and everything but it wouldn't have hurt them to just ask J.K. Rowling and WB before doing this. I am sure they wouldn't have rejected.

I just don't like it when people do this. *eyes my countrymen and women* Seriously.

Nope; WB is a business and everybody has their price. Not only were they chiseled out of the money but the prestige of being able to say, "Yes you may." or "No you may not."
