Francisca Solar, a 23-year-old journalism student from Chile, is releasing her first novel La Septima M, which is part one of a trilogy. The writer was signed by Random House publishers after her Harry Potter fan fic, The Decline of the High Elves, raised worldwide attention online. Quote:

What a lucky shot in the dark. That's a billion to one offer right there. Most people need to put years of work in before they get a break from a major publishing house like that. Good for her, especially since it was her fanfic that launched her. But I hope people don't get the idea that if they write a good fanfic that they're going to be noticed too. It's like being "discovered by a movie producer walking down the street. You have a better chance of winning the lottery, getting struck my lightning and immaculatly conceiving all in one day. She's a lucky girl though and yes, I'm jealous. Now I'm going to go weep in the corner and continue submitted my non fanfic writing to the publishing world.
