| | | Horseheads HP club debates Harry's future
The Star-Gazette has an interesting piece about members of Horseheads High School's Harry Potter Book Club and their theories on what the title character in J.K. Rowling's fantasy series will do after he graduates from the mythical Hogwarts Academy. The whole piece can be read here. Quote:
Some thought the young wizard would become the headmaster of the school, while others speculated that Harry would become a professional quidditch player.
Quote:
"I just enjoy the fantasy of there being an alternate reality of wizards," said junior Jeffrey Mathews, 17.
Quote:
"We're forced to do all kinds of bizarre predicting," said senior Jackie Spicer, 17, smiling.
Quote:
For instance, one rumor says Rowling is thinking of publishing a book after the Harry Potter series is complete with items that did not make it into those books. Her official Web site confirms Rowling is considering that.
That's not exactly true - she's considering writing an epilogue of what happened after the end. She said if she wrote any more books (like 'Quidditch through the ages' and 'Magical Beasts and where to find them') the profits would go to charity. Quote:
During a recent discussion about the fourth book in the series, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," students talked about foreshadowing and made comparisons to "The Tempest" by William Shakespeare.
Quote:
Recently about a dozen book club members gathered in a circle around junior Roxanne Hodge, 16, as she read questions from a Harry Potter trivia game.
"Ron!" they shouted in unison to the question, "Who teaches Harry Potter to play wizard chess?"
"It's really good because you can talk about the books and you can debate them," Hodge said of the club.

Paris & Kellybear r luv :Read Otty 's fics:Gone With the Wind:I♥Rupert What's interesting is that they're dissecting literature...which is a good thing. More schools should have clubs like that. Literary analysis is a good thing. On a side note I thought Horseheads was some kind of Hunter's Club for rich people or something, like a country club...hehehe guess I read too much into things... Silly Ottery... But if anyone knows about a HP country club let me know I'd like to join...

This is great. It really helps to promote reading and "out of the box" thinking in children when they can dissect books in a group setting. KUDOS!!!!

I went to a college visitation about 2 months ago(my sister's a junior in HS) and they had trial classes. I took a Harry Potter in Politics class while my sis did an abroad discussion. They dont offer the class at the college, but it was great to see middle aged men talking about HP and JKR's site clues.
I wish we had a club like that but only my friends would be members!

Yes it's a great idea, the HP books are so good that you could discuss their content for quite some time.
