Harry Potter's family history, 'Fantastic Beasts', more revealed on new Pottermore

Pottermore opened its second phase on Tuesday morning, giving a lot of new tidbits about the Wizarding World - including Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and a teaser for the upcoming play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Peruse through the site for some goodies.

We are delighted to launch the newly imagined #Pottermore, with an introductory message from J.K. The biggest thing to come is new content from J.K. Rowling on the Potter family. More about Harry's ancestors can be read here.
Occasionally, a Potter made it all the way to London, and a member of the family has twice sat on the Wizengamot: Ralston Potter, who was a member from 1612-1652, and who was a great supporter of the Statute of Secrecy (as opposed to declaring war on the Muggles, as more militant members wished to do) and Henry Potter (Harry to his intimates), who was a direct descendant of Hardwin and Iolanthe, and served on the Wizengamot from 1913 - 1921. Henry caused a minor stir when he publicly condemned then Minister for Magic, Archer Evermonde, who had forbidden the magical community to help Muggles waging the First World War. His outspokenness on the behalf of the Muggle community was also a strong contributing factor in the family’s exclusion from the ‘Sacred Twenty-Eight’.

Henry’s son was called Fleamont Potter. Fleamont was so called because it was the dying wish of Henry’s mother that he perpetuate her maiden name, which would otherwise die out. He bore the burden remarkably well; indeed, he always attributed his dexterity at duelling to the number of times he had to fight people at Hogwarts after they had made fun of his name. It was Fleamont who took the family gold and quadrupled it, by creating magical Sleekeazy’s Hair Potion ( ‘two drops tames even the most bothersome barnet’ ). He sold the company at a vast profit when he retired, but no amount of riches could compensate him or his wife Euphemia for their childlessness. They had quite given up hope of a son or daughter when, to their shock and surprise, Euphemia found that she was pregnant and their beloved boy, James, was born.

Fleamont and Euphemia lived long enough to see James marry a Muggle-born girl called Lily Evans, but not to meet their grandson, Harry. Dragon pox carried them off within days of each other, due to their advanced age, and James Potter then inherited Ignotus Peverell’s Invisibility Cloak.
And, yes, the site promises that the long-awaited Patronus Test is coming soon.

Can't wait for the Patronus test!

It's also great to finally get the names of Harry's grandparents. Though this means James Potter is not the mysterious son of Charelus and Dorea Potter (previously, Black) now. :hmm:

Am I the only one who is very displeased with the new Pottermore? Don't get me wrong, I love that we get new information and stories! But I think the new design is SO lacking! It no longer holds a whimsical and magical feel. It's so very plain and too geometrical (boxy). :( I fell in love with the painterly design of the original. I'm also a little confused on if we are getting our accounts back? I'll hold out on my final judgement until they officially complete the site.
Sigh. I guess the only thing I'm excited about is the phone/tablet compatibility.

I agree with you! I am not a big fan of the design. I feel it is too generic. I feel like it is just another website. The old pottermore was unique and fun to come too. I was wondering that too! Where is our old unique accounts? Are they gona and did we make them for nothing? :(

Yes, my thoughts too. It's not unique at all! I wish they would have kept the old one and extended it to this one in some way.

My thoughts exactly! I mean it is nice now everyone can know about the Hufflepuff common room explanation instead of being sorted into hufflepuff house and knowing for yourself.

I just feel it has no appeal to me anymore. It looks like any other adult site and it has no interactions anymore. I miss being able to duel and brew potions :(

I agree with you folks. For example there is not an order on the site. In previous pottermore i was able to find whatever i look for. In this one there is not an order. You just come across with an article.

I dont understand what makes this look more ''adult''... i am 27 years old and i guess adult enough to like the previous one. i dont wanna prejudge so let's wait and see what will come soon.

Pottermore became a blander version of Buzzfeed / Nerdist

yeah the interactive-ness is sorely missed. to me that was the main draw, the most interesting aspect about the old set up. however they did say that they will be adding the interactive elements (sorting, wand selection, patronus etc) back soon. i guess they just needed a way to make adding info easier for the webmasters, spesh JKR seems to be making a habit of dropping juicy tidbits all over twitter :xd:

i hope they figure out a way to put in a site map/ table of contents / tagging new info, because right now its hard to find where all the new infos are, or even to just be aware of what content there is for each character/ event/ item. right now i have to hop onto each article to look if theres anything new and well.... aint nobody got time for that :xd:

also they got an article about the color palette selection for characters etc and although it was interesting... it doesnt really make much sense to me *still feels they just picked them at random*

I don't mind the new design - going through the stories and finding things was never an important thing for me. My only complaint is the way it's organized. If you want to read something you have to specifically search for it. I don't know what I want to read, I want to read everything.

Also, Fleamont is still a better name than 'Albus Severus'
