Harry Potter's David Yates, Bill Nighy, Clemence Poesy promote Robin Hood Tax

Director David Yates' first piece of work since completing the Harry Potter series years ago was a short video advocating the Robin Hood Tax in the UK and Europe. Yates enlisted a couple of Harry Potter alum like Clemence Poesy and Bill Nighy for the mockumentary where the actors, moderated by actor Andrew Lincoln's character, argue that the small tax would definitely help with the poverty crisis.

Starring Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead), Bill Nighy (Love Actually), Clémence Poésy (Harry Potter), Heike Makatsch (The Book Thief) and Javier Cámara (Bad Education), the Robin Hood Tax campaign takes a cheeky look at what the world might be like in 2024, with a tax which tackles extreme poverty, climate change and cuts to public services.
A couple of quotes from Yates and Nighy, via the Mirror, about the campaign can be read here.

Quote:

The film’s release is part of a Europe-wide campaign calling for the introduction of the tax which would raise at least £20billion to ease poverty in Europe and developing countries.

It mocks Britain for refusing to join other European countries set to enact the tax.

Bill Nighy: “Four years after the launch of the Robin Hood Tax campaign, this tiny tax that could do so much good is on the verge of becoming a reality: France, Germany and nine other European countries are about to introduce it.... It would be deeply regrettable if the rest of the world were caught on the wrong side of history.

Introducing the tax alone will not be enough, the billions it will raise need to be invested in tackling poverty at home and abroad and fighting climate change.”

David Yates: “I agreed to direct the film because the Robin Hood Tax is a simple yet brilliant idea. We need to learn the lessons of the financial crisis and ensure that banks and hedge funds work in the interests of society not the other way around.”

Is this kind of like the income tax? I applaud their good intentions, but I doubt it's a good idea. All too often this kind of tax money gets wasted on causes it wasn't intended to be used on. In France the taxes are so high that several millionaires have even taken to bribing or threatening the tax collector.

Charity works better.
