'Goblet of Fire' earns $36million in one day

Box Office Mojo reports that 'Goblet of Fire' grossed $36million on its first day of release, which is just $2million behind 'Prisoner of Azkaban'. However, it beat the first day sales of 'Sorceror's Stone' and 'Chamber of Secrets'.

Saz Hale 11-20-2005 03:51 PM

wow thats good news so it seems like goblet of fire is going to do really well

iluvbadboys56 11-20-2005 06:59 PM

im not too surprised, i new a lot of hp fans would go see it....but even more would have gone if there hadnt been any school! but i really doubt that skool would have closed because of a movie.......

Olivia Granger 11-20-2005 07:13 PM

L.a.m.b 11-20-2005 07:28 PM

cool no surprise there! :)! way 2 go thou!

~Insanely Insane~ 11-20-2005 07:50 PM

I think it didn't do as well as PoA because of the rating. Lots of little kids probably went to see the first three, but like in my local newspaper, there have been articles warning about the...gruesomeness of GoF.

paxluv 11-20-2005 07:56 PM

I think it didn't do as well as POA because it's PG-13. This rating might have caused the movie to lose some younger viewers.

Actually, last year for the opening day of Prisoner of Azkaban, schools in our district got the day off.

Lefty2410 11-20-2005 08:07 PM

I thought that it would beat the rest of the HP movies. But still, the money they earned was amazing.

Agus 11-20-2005 08:08 PM

That's nice!.

Although I didn't see the movie [here in Argentina we are having the premier Wednesday 23th ...and I'm going!!] it looks extremely good, so I'm happy that they are doing well.

It surprised me however, that PoA did better in the first day, since I believe this created much more expectation and the fact that Voldemort is appearing and a lot of little details would have made me believe they were going to do better than PoA did.

But, anyway, that's a lot of money for only one day!. I can't wait for Wednesday.

~*HermioneGranger*~ 11-20-2005 08:49 PM

Why didn't it beat POA? ahh well anyways Thats amazing to get so much!

~Slytherin_Heir~ 11-20-2005 09:17 PM

I actually thought it would beat Prisoner...hmmm..still very well though.

kissin'R.G.39 11-20-2005 09:26 PM

Yeah well, I just saw the movie and the tickets were sold out so we had to get tickets for the next show. <_< Oh well, THE MOVIE ROCKED OUT LOUD! The movie was full of action, the characters were funny, and there was a lot of emo! OMG Rupert was so sexy! I thought it was kinda funny when he told Harry to piss off!

firewhiskey89 11-20-2005 10:15 PM

yea it shoulda beat the third one but hopefully for the weekend total it will beat all of them.

Unidentified101 11-20-2005 10:17 PM

GoF is going to definately beat PoA because it was a better movie!

Leeness 11-20-2005 10:19 PM

Who cares if it didn't outrun Prisoner of Azkaban? Afterall it is 36 MILLION dollars.

Beav42 11-20-2005 10:29 PM

GO GOF!!! I thought that GOF would have made more than POA, but anyways. I wonder how much it will end up making as time goes on?

slythringurl04 11-20-2005 10:41 PM

yea when i went to go see it, the theater was SO full!

kellann227 11-20-2005 11:04 PM

this may seem weird but ive seen gof 3 times already with differnt people :) i loved it

cocogodessmegrly1 11-20-2005 11:12 PM

I just suppose that people are waiting for a while so ,the crowd wont be as huge to see it..

prettyinpink 11-20-2005 11:25 PM

thats weird...ok!

Chavz 11-20-2005 11:33 PM

Wow, that a lot of money. It was a great movie I thought it was awsome. I'm already looking forward to the OotF.

ABAS91 11-20-2005 11:40 PM

Rabbit 11-20-2005 11:45 PM

:worship: The movie rocked! I'm gonna see it again.. and im DEFINITELY buying the game....:vgame:

chocolate_chick_00 11-20-2005 11:51 PM

Not to shabby, I could do some thing with that amount of cash! I was disappointed with the film but all in all I hope they do well. Wonder what everyone’s cut is?

Brina gurl 11-21-2005 12:17 AM

yea!!! I made up part of the money!!! The movie was really good!!!

iluvmeandhp47031 11-21-2005 12:23 AM

i saw it twice on friday...i skipped school...it was really good. it seemed like they didn't leave out that much...except the whole s.p.e.w. thing and we knew they were leaving that out...

Simple Muggle 11-21-2005 12:35 AM

that's good but I cant believe that it's still 2million behind PoA!
and this is a better movie!

Lady Fabulous 11-21-2005 01:04 AM

I'm suprised it didn't make as much as POA, but agreat effort all the same

Argh... I have to wait till December 1st to see it... this sucks!
I hope it's better than POA.

happy to be alive 102 11-21-2005 01:19 AM

I knew it was going to be a lot, because I went at five o'clock at a movie theater and HP was sold out till ten, but WOW!!!!!!!!!

wickedwitchlet 11-21-2005 01:41 AM

I'm not suprised. I had tickets for the 7pm showing, got there at 6pm saw the line realized we would have bad seats swapped em for the 11:15pm showing and they said get here about 8:00pm. So were tenth in line and waited for three hours. But it was all worth it.

luckyangelkmf 11-21-2005 01:49 AM

I helped, i contributed about 7.50 to see the movie!!!!!!!

lordvader 11-21-2005 02:11 AM

GOF is currently at 101 Million in the US and 181 Million worldwide. It already beat out the US weekend projection of 97 Million and that doesn't include all of Sunday's ticket sales.

lordvader 11-21-2005 02:14 AM

I'm not overly surprised that it didn't beat POA. One, POA was released in June. Most kids (and teachers) are out of school by then, whereas in November for GOF everyone is in school. Two, it is a much darker movie than all the others. Although Star Wars EP3 was the darkest, it still did the best of all six SW movies. I haven't seen it yet, but most certainly will sometime this week. Just from the trailers, I can tell it's the best yet. I'm glad it is because book 4 is my favorite along side 6.

hermioneg288 11-21-2005 02:20 AM

I'm surprised it didnt beat POA, because I saw it opening day (got out of school early hehe) and I just saw it again today, and it was by far the best Harry Potter film yet and the best film I've ever seen in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i say that with every Potter film. i can't wait to go see it again. But you know i think the opening weekend numbers will beat POA. the school thing probably did get in the way of the opening day numbers..i cant wait to go see it again in a few days!!!! :)

college_bound_13 11-21-2005 02:25 AM

tired...

:sorcerer: EVERYBODY: at least someone noticed...none of my fellow HP friends noticed regulus' initials...does ANYONE know his middle name??... i'm not surprised to see that GoF didn't beat PoA to
 PEOPLE WHO READ THE 4th BOOK AND SAW THE MOVIE: the movie messes up the plot...again
 PEOPLE WHO WAITED OVER 2 HOURS TO SEE THE 4th MOVIE: i saw the 12:20 p.m. showing AND went to school the next day @8:00 a.m. AND i waited two hours, with math test...i was sooooooo tired...people thought we were crazy(my friend went with...) :superman: :sleepy:

Lemonlimeoranges 11-21-2005 02:43 AM

That's not very surprising, when I went to see the movie the day it came out I got there an hour early (late night showing) and the theater was already packed. However, that is really good news! I wonder what contributed to the decline in viewers since Prisoner of Azkaban...

Sollust 11-21-2005 02:48 AM

Well I've seen the movie and it was worth every penny. People in the audience even clapped at the end of it. Surreal.

mclay18 11-21-2005 03:05 AM

On Box Office Mojo, early estimates say that GoF has made $100.4 million in the U.S. ($7 million more than PoA, actually) and $80 million internationally on its opening weekend, putting the movie's current gross at about $180 million.

Provided that ticket sales don't drop dramatically during the following weeks, it could make much more than PoA and possibly CoS - around the $300 million mark once it finishes its theatrical run.

Nabs 11-21-2005 03:05 AM

its not surprising they made that much...considering the amount of fans there are online alone..what with pre bookings and stuff. and the movie is fantastic so it's not weird that they dd

dobby1989 11-21-2005 03:06 AM

Wow, it was completly sold out for all the showings on friday it was crazy!!! i really enjoyed it.

evil punk rocker 11-21-2005 03:07 AM

yeah - but its still amazing

Luna Loveg00d 11-21-2005 03:41 AM

Sky news just reported that they got information from Warner Brothers today that said,

GOF sold 40 million cinema tickets in the UK and 180 milion dollors worth of tickets in USA which makes GOF have the 4th largest openeing day ever!

hilfog 11-21-2005 11:44 AM

It didnt beat azkaban becuz it was friday for half the earth....
if they planned it well they could have got more on the first day.....

Padie 11-21-2005 11:55 AM

That's just great! They deserve it! :D

Kazters 11-21-2005 01:52 PM

GOF took 14.5m million in the UK this weekend!

WB are set to ANNOUCE tomorw that it made 105.3 million ...

http://www.inthenews.co.uk/screen-an...-$15095368.htm

and it will do better in USA next weekend isnt it thanks giving?

and it still has large countries to open in!

tonks26 11-21-2005 02:09 PM

No surprises there...though there are no official reports yet here in the Philippines there's no doubt that its the biggest earner in recent weeks...there are some movie centers that show nothing but GoF! And the queues are deadly...reservations for the opening were well sold out days before Nov 16th.

KA-CHING! I guess, for WB. :D

Kazters 11-21-2005 02:15 PM

bbc are now reporting the same

Ever since the announcement that Emma Watson will be playing Belle in Disney’s live action version of Beauty and the Beast, two main questions have arisen. 1. Who will play Beast? Unfortunately, there’s still no word on that. 2. What does Emma’s singing sound like? Well, we have the answer.

Back in August 2012, while in Reykjavik, Iceland, filming Noah, Emma Watson sang backup on Ben Hammersley’s Pantomine, along with instrumentalist Ólafur Arnalds. Have a listen (she comes in at 2.05 and 3.10).
