Yeah I'd agree with that Kaz (yay we've found middle ground!). It wasn't 'wrong' but neither was it the smartest joke to make.

Kazters 10-06-2005 12:01 PM

lol not at all! lol... sillyl man! bet he regrets it now lol hahaha

EmmaRiddle 10-06-2005 12:10 PM

I think he's silly, not because of the joke he made, but because he didn't realise that political correctness wouldn't allow this to go unnoticed.

Kazters 10-06-2005 12:25 PM

yeah i agree! what makes it worse it the fact that he is a reverent

EmmaRiddle 10-06-2005 12:29 PM

Not anymore he isn't. Though I fail to see what that has to do with PC.

Kazters 10-06-2005 12:33 PM

well it would be appropriate for a preiest to be saying things like that would it?.... it was as tupid thing to do! and he will regret it!

but i said above and again i have no idea who he is!

EmmaRiddle 10-06-2005 12:36 PM

I dunno. As much as he holds or held a certain responsibility, he's still a person at the same time, who's entitled to their opinion. But as I said at the time of this he wasn't practising anymore.

Nabs 10-06-2005 12:42 PM

oh well...guess he was just trying to be "hip" with the youngsters..too bad he had to pick harry potter to joke about..

luckyangelkmf 10-06-2005 12:55 PM

Is anyone here offended? Well i think Voldemort is scary, terrifing if was a wizard though!!!!!!

bitsyandtank 10-06-2005 01:07 PM

Joking for not, he should have used better judgment. He needed to take into consideration the age of children he was speaking to. The same joke to a more mature crowd would have meant something completely different. It is the adults job to be the adult.

fleurdelacour39 10-06-2005 01:25 PM

What?

Who is this retarded G.P.Taylor guy? (I have no idea, I am American) Harry Potter is not gay!:bnawtf: :jump: I mean come on! Who is this total dunderhead!
I'm takin' this to the government!

Personally, I agree with G.P.Taylor, it was a joke referencing what's popular; a way of connecting with the teens who would have known what show he was referring to. I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about.
I agree with you compleatly! I really think that he didn;t set out to offend anyone! All he did was pick up on something that the kids knew about! Why not Harry Potter! I think Lord Valgarwart is really funny! It's just a laugh!
I don't think he has anything to worry about, His books are great and they can be compared to the Harry Potter story. In Shadowmancer there are creatures that go around in capes and suck people to death! And there is a evil villan! Sounds alot like Harry Potter doesnt it! Maybe too much for my liking but thats the book isnt it!

Penair school is the school down the road form where my bro went to boarding school! Wow Ive been past there tons of time! Truro's wicked!! I love the shops! Yay! Any excuse to talk about shopping! Haha

Mistress Vondella 10-06-2005 01:47 PM

when I saw this headline, I was a bit........perturbed. I figured he was being rude, but then I saw the whole line, "Isnt the only gay in the villiage" and cracked up. I knew what he was referencing and he targeted it to his audience who would recognize it, that's key when speaking to people.

I whole heartedly agree with that.

Raazia 10-06-2005 02:20 PM

Hmmm i don't really know what to think about it...cuz i haven't read little britain....
i wouldn't take it as an insult if it's really really common in britain...
but i am kinda against using that kinda lingo in front of kids....

Lissydove 10-06-2005 02:35 PM

I think what he said sounds inappropriate. But I've never seen the show he was referencing. Taking a quote out of context can make it seem a lot worse then it is. However, at face value it sounds very bad.

Leeness 10-06-2005 03:07 PM

Everyone's entitled to their own opinions i guess *shrug*

Singularity 10-06-2005 03:13 PM

Hm, other people's views amuse me sometimes.

katiebell 10-06-2005 03:19 PM

Being from America, I've never seen the show Little Britain. I don't get the joke ... not the only gay in the village ... What does it mean?

jmh 10-06-2005 03:32 PM

to me it doesn't sound as much like a joke as it does a dig. I suppose he's jealous, I've tried to read Shadowmancer found it to be boring. Then to have the media compare it to Harry Potter no comparison.

harry_luvr 10-06-2005 03:49 PM

i have no idea who this gp taylor person is but i am never reading any of his books! can't be much of a priest to talk kids like that - and although little britain is funny - he isn't....

*cough* jealous *cough* sack him *cough* .... hmm....maybe i shud have disguised that better....

Basically, there's a gay guy in a tiny villiage. He's very dramatic and constantly expects people to disown him or discriminate against him and always insists that he's the only gay in the village, even when others tell him there's other gays.

I do have a question though, when someone expresses an opinion against HP or JK, why do most HP Fans automatically say "Im never reading their books!" It's kinda childish.......If you've tried the books and dont like 'em, fine, but an opinion is hardly a reason not to read the book(s). Or they accuse the other person as being jealous...........it's not always entirely true.

Everyone is entiled to thier own opinions, it's not up to us to attack someone for expressing theirs. He didn't go out of his way to call a press confrence to say these things, he was lecturing, and it got reported. *shrugs*

harry_luvr 10-06-2005 04:07 PM

^ um...good point....

i think it's mainly because that is what most of us think is the most important. If you don't like the author, you don't like their books - it's the way of life for us, and we stick to that - we're not childish, we just go by that simple set of rules.

OtterySt.Catchpole 10-06-2005 04:11 PM

*glomps Harry* It's okay to be curious love...but Ron's mine...

When using the word gay in a derrogitory manner that is insulting to homosexuals everywhere. What's wrong with Harry being gay? Politically correct atmosphere my beast of burden. I'd write an editorial but this subject isn't allowed on SS because of the kiddies...inappropriate...I should think so. Homophobia should be inappropriate.

kissin'R.G.39 10-06-2005 04:15 PM

Wh is this guy?

Who is this retarded sicko named G.P.Taylor anyway?(i'm an american poster.) Harry Potter is not gay! B-l-o-o-d-y h-e-l-l, who is this guy? <_< I bet that his name is probably Great Prat Taylor.:lol:Oh thats some good road material there!

I love how people like to create bad stereotypes and then turn around and make them worse... *sighs* because being a political activist is a bad thing.

I have to agree with you there adorable but in Terry Pratchett's case...OMG! it's seething with envy you can see it. LOL. I swear...she deposed him as the best selling fantasy author in GB of course he hates her. You don't see Stephen King getting all huffy.

Actually that's an oxymoron, you're telling people they have a right to their opinions except when it attacks someone elses. What are you liberal? LOL. Seriously...people have a right to hate him if they want you're just wanting polite censorship but then he's offended me so...*shrugs* shouldn't you shut him up?
