Emma Watson & crew talk series changes and split of Deathly Hallows films

New interviews with Emma Watson, director David Yates, producer David Heyman, and screenwriter Steve Kloves, conducted on the set of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows have been featured in the March 2010 issue of Total Film magazine, which is out now.

Yates spoke about both parts, and how different they are from one another (Part I being a road trip, while Part II is all battles):

Quote:

"Part 1 is dynamic, adrenalised, visceral and takes place on the road," director David Yates told Total Film last year. "It's a refugee story about three kids cut off from everything they know and everybody they love, being pursued relentlessly by people who want to murder them."
Quote:

"How do you make them one but two separate and distinct stories?' ponders Yates. "Do you break it with a moment of suspense or one of resolution?"
Quote:

According to Yates, Part 2 will be a different beast again: "A big opera, a great big epic, with huge battles."
Emma explained how different it was to shoot a Harry Potter film without Hogwarts:

Quote:

"I feel like I'm on a different film," Watson confirms. "The others have this structure. You know, we come into the Great Hall and there's the opening talk. And that's gone."
Kloves teased briefly on the split:

Quote:

"Ultimately everyone felt that, despite the challenges it would present, the split was the most sound creative decision," explains veteran screenwriter Steve Kloves. "It should allow us to stretch a bit with the characters and give them the proper send-off."
Although no new photos were released in the magazine, if anyone can get a scan of the interview, please feel free to send it in! Thanks to elektra-natchios for the transcription!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be out November 19, 2010 and July 15, 2011.

Hope he's right..

Two part awesomeness

I think breaking it into two parts is definitely the wiser choice and i hope they are amazing because if this series has a lackluster send off there are going to be some angry fans out there:madeye:

I think Part 2 will be the best! Part 1 will be great as well especially the Wedding!
Can't wait!
Great answers from Emma and the crew!

I am SO happy that they are splitting it! And both parts are going to be AMAZING! I just cannot wait to see it!!!

PatInTheHat 01-24-2010 05:11 AM

cool beans!

I despise Kloves. But I am really hoping (with the split) that this will turn good. It sounds pretty good so far, but the preview of DH on the HBP DVD made me nervous... I'll just have to wait and see. *sigh*

MelissaWeasley 01-24-2010 07:04 AM

I need to see both movies NOW!!!

SwedishSkinJer 01-24-2010 07:04 AM

Kloves really is brilliant (his dialogue in HBP was particularly top-notch), and he's done a great job with balancing the source material with what works in a MOVIE, not a visual carbon copy of the books. I can only imagine how rough it is to make an entertaining movie out of such massive books when you're actually doing it. I can't wait to see his work on DH.

"Despise" sounds a bit too personal, as if he's harmed your friends or something. "I disagree with his choices..." sounds more polite, considering how nice and well-spoken Kloves is.

Wow thats awesome, i'm really waiting for DH!!

TheElzaO 01-24-2010 08:25 AM

I was always wondering how DH will be divided. And now I know!
It's awesome! They all are cool, aren't they?

whether on not the split is what any fan would agree with is irrelevant...they will do what they will do....and we wont have a choice. I am over Yates.

bojiva 01-25-2010 07:59 PM

I get what you're saying but, at the same time, moderating the comments of other members should be left to those appointed to do so.

very interesting!

Padfoot7 01-25-2010 10:43 PM

I don't want to know where the split is. It'll just ruin the film! I want to be in a state of suspense the whoe first film thinking "Is it going to end here?"

hermionesclone 01-26-2010 02:51 AM

Wow! Great interview! Can't wait to see DH!

Gryffindor Gal 101 01-26-2010 03:37 AM
