Emma Thompson not reprising Trelawney role in Deathly Hallows

Actress Emma Thompson has confirmed that she will not reprise her role as Divination professor Sybill Trelawney in the Deathly Hallows films, as they would conflict with her working schedule for next year.

Quote:

“No, no, no,” the Oscar winner insisted when we asked whether she’d be returning as Professor Sybil Trelawney in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”. “I’m making my own ‘Nanny McPhee’ next year. They mean much more to me.”
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released in November 2010 and May 2011.

marfamarfa 11-11-2008 07:49 PM

NOOO!!!!! She is so awesome at the role. I can't imagine anyone else doing it!

Daemon 11-11-2008 07:54 PM

NO! NO! NO!!!! I Loved her as Trelawney! Someone please make her change her mind, *sobs endlessly*

FoxFire 11-11-2008 07:55 PM

Hmm. She only appeared in DH for a moment (right?... throwing crystal balls around during the end...), so I'm not terribly hurt [:/] Considering that, they probably won't bother recasting Sybil.

fallen-angel 11-11-2008 08:02 PM

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Does that mean Trealawny's cut from the emence crystal ball throwing? *Crys in corner*

OR will she be back for part two? *Hopes*

LaFresita 11-11-2008 08:19 PM

 Dee Dee not happy! Argh! There goes my good day....

laura-tonks 11-11-2008 08:27 PM

Oh NO!

Emma Thompson is fantastic!!!!!!!

:(

I may cry

Naarlii 11-11-2008 08:30 PM

Ooh noo:(

Emma you're great as Trelawney

finfin91 11-11-2008 08:35 PM

Too bad she won't be coming back; however, she really didn't have a big part in DH anyway. I only remember her throwing crystal balls to the death eaters and the warewolf, right? Anyway, she was great when she appeared in HP.

Godfrey Peverell 11-11-2008 08:46 PM

Hopefully they will just cut the whole scene out. I love the Nanny McPhee movie so I can understand her desires.

purebloodprincess87 11-11-2008 09:02 PM

awwwww...Wait is it necessary to have her in DH?

LunaLovesPudding 11-11-2008 09:34 PM

I loved Nanny McPhee, so I guess it's not too bad.
Hopefully WB won't recast Trelawney, it'd be awful if they did. Can't see anyone else playing her.

Shopgirl3876 11-11-2008 09:35 PM

What the deuce???? She HAS to play the part! She can work it in her schedule if she wanted too! UGH, I hope she changes her mind!

But I do Love Nanny McPhee!

Hermionespell 11-11-2008 09:39 PM

Well, it's rather insulting and sad that the said the Nanny things "mean much more" to her. She will be missed greatly!

snapelivesonforever 11-11-2008 09:56 PM

NO!!! She can't quit now! Trelawney finally gets some action parts!! The dropping crystal balls part would have been so good with her! She's the best person to play her!! Now what will the directors do!?!? NOT GOOD! NOT GOOD! I hope the Nanny McPhee role goes well! We'll miss you Emma Thompson!

harrypotter#1fan 11-11-2008 10:07 PM

She really didn't have a huge role so im not that disappointed.

Becky 11-11-2008 10:18 PM

Who cares?? *hides* ok, i care a little

lotrfrk11 11-11-2008 10:20 PM

Well all she does is throw crystal balls at people in DH, she doesn't have that big of a part.

joannabanana 11-11-2008 10:31 PM

I don't think it matters much because its such a small part in the book.

MeredithRodneyMckay 11-11-2008 10:35 PM

Awww I love Emma Thompson.I know her part in the movie/s would have been small, but she does light up any scenes she's in.
I'm going to miss her little cameo.

Potter for Minister 11-11-2008 10:44 PM

Awwww... I understand why, I loved Nanny McPhee, but I was hoping to see her one last time though.

Ginny GL 11-11-2008 10:50 PM

OMG!!

Whose gonna throw the orbs at Greyback!!??

ladycplum 11-11-2008 11:08 PM

Must....hold back urge.....to kill......was this HER decision, or has WB started up the chopping block already???????

lavender_07 11-11-2008 11:26 PM

I didn't know where else to ask but Devon Murray just did an interview on tv and talked mainly about Harry Potter and Daniel Radcliffe.. anyone want me to get a copy and pass it along?

[the language is slightly...erm...'mature'...though]

griffin_girl 11-11-2008 11:30 PM

oh that's too bad. she plays an excellent Trelawney!

gandalfgirl 11-11-2008 11:43 PM

Nooo..... she has to be Trelawney! Hope they pick someone as good.

Mrs_Molly_Weasley 11-11-2008 11:45 PM

What? What? uh UH I mustve miss read this...*scans over post

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is sooo not fair I <3 Emma!

Wait what does she mean by Nanny McPhee? It already came out!

Zoe 11-12-2008 12:03 AM

*gasps*

That stinks that her schedule won't be able to work with the Potter film.

Ariana Longbottom 11-12-2008 12:34 AM

This is really unfortunate and upsetting. Nanny McPhee- I haven't seen the first one because it looked like a fake Mary Poppins, and I don't see why on earth it would have a sequel.

But then again, I wold have never expected Madagascar to ahve a sequel.

Like I said, it's really unfortunate and upsetting. At least she didn't have that large of a role in DH. They better choose someone good.

French_December 11-12-2008 12:36 AM

She's not coming back? : (

Absolutely! Can you email what you heard and saw? Also, where and when did this interview take place?

Slytherin Fox 11-12-2008 12:45 AM

Emma is awesome as Trelawney, so sorry she won't be in the film!

Wonderstruck 11-12-2008 01:17 AM

Aww that stinks. She made a great Professor Trelawney! I wonder who they will cast for her instead...

HP&GW88 11-12-2008 02:13 AM

awwww :( She played an awesome Trelawney. It's gonna suck without her

GinnyPotter7 11-12-2008 02:27 AM

that stinks!!!

True. So i guess it's not to bad. Honestly i'm not disapointed at all after that big deal she made about the money she was getting for the HP films. Good ridence.

half_blood_prince 11-12-2008 03:13 AM

no one does the part better then she can, she is making another nanny mcphee movie. thats going to be interesting.

lilly_luna 11-12-2008 04:10 AM

noooo i was looking forward to her throwing the crystal balls at the death eaters! she so funny, gotta love her crazy trelawney !

it's a shame she's fed up of playing trelawney, she seems way more excited to play nanny mcphee!Anyway, she'd be missed from hp films.:hermy: :hermy:

emjay 11-12-2008 04:37 AM

Can't say I'm surprised, really. She didn't have much of a role in the 7th book, and if they cut out her part in HBP, I can certainly see her being cut out of DH.

James_Potter 11-12-2008 05:07 AM

*gasp!* I guess she isn't as hardcore of an HP fan as I thought she was. :(
I thought she did a magnificent job as Sybil. *sniff*

Ameh 11-12-2008 09:32 AM

Hmm. They'll probably have students tossing the crystal balls now, or cut that scene completely, even though losing the comedy aspect of it would be a shame. Miss Thompson was a fantastic Sybill, however. And I for one am glad for the bits we did get to see of her throughout the series. ^_^

Taiya89 11-12-2008 09:58 AM

Gha!
Is there anything else that's gonna go wrong this week?
If so, WARN ME!

THIS SO SUCKS!

evanna11 11-12-2008 01:31 PM

Oh no...*wants the crystal ball throwing scene to be in the movie*

HarryThePotter 11-12-2008 01:51 PM

NO NO NOOO! *cries* Thats not fair! She was SO brilliant! ):

Dragony 11-12-2008 03:20 PM

WHAT??????????????? It impossible!

Embem 11-12-2008 04:00 PM

Nanny McPhee? I absolutely love that film!!! I assume they're making a sequal or something... And I don't really care that she's not in HP7. They never give the adult actors enough screentime anyway so it's not even a big deal.

Pigwidgeon Took 11-12-2008 06:06 PM

What? How can Nanny McFee mean less to her than Harry Potter??? (not that I have any idea what Nanny McFee really even IS, but still)

This is not cool. :( They should have recruited her earlier....

kid dreamer 11-12-2008 07:29 PM

not like it was a big part

Cassie1011 11-12-2008 10:28 PM

awww.... but shes really funny. But whos gonna throw the glass balls?

James_Potter 11-13-2008 01:37 AM

Speaking of Mrs. Thompson, she was on the US show Ellen today!!! But she didn't talk about her role as Sibyl. She was talking about her kids and her new movie. :(

#1_harry_potter_fan_22 11-13-2008 01:54 AM

Hmmm well I understand where she's coming from because she probably wouldn't ahve had that much screen time in DH anyway and shes like the main character in Nanny McPhee. But still I'd rather they not have Trelawney at all than have some one new<_<

Ms_Nessa24 11-13-2008 03:04 AM

It's Good that She Didn't Really play a Big part In Deathly Hallows...
I Would Of been very Disappointed is she Did!

Bellatricks 11-13-2008 05:21 AM

Yeah, Emma stuff your Inner Eye. She was good as Trelawney, but annoying all the same...

Nat nat 11-13-2008 11:21 AM

that's a little bit sad to hear... she's a perfect sybill

Wow how rude. Maybe if she is gonna be that way we don't need her in these movies.

SiriusBlack15 11-13-2008 01:49 PM

WHAT!!! I want her to play Sybill! She´s great as her!

jain 11-13-2008 05:26 PM

she played an awful Trelawney, in some cases being the worst actor in the film. her take on it seemed to be 'how much can i ham this up'?I enjoy her work normaly, so perhaps it's because the character wasn't written so well in the screen play.

Trelawney doesn't do anything of significance, so I can't see them re-casting her.

Quote:

I don't think so. After all, she writes those scripts, so obviously it's going to be of higher importance to her.

Quote:

was this HER decision, or has WB started up the chopping block already???????
Sounds like it was hers. Though really, she doesn't do anything of consequence in Deathly Hallows, so her part being eliminated wouldn't cause problems. As for the scripts, I think the first is ready.

Quote:

Wait what does she mean by Nanny McPhee?
I assume she means a sequel.

Ginevra_P 11-15-2008 06:05 PM
