Eddie Redmayne talks Dumbledore in 'Fantastic Beasts', sees 'Cursed Child' plays
While promoting his new animated feature, Early Man, Eddie Redmayne was bombarded with questions about the upcoming release of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. He chatted with Radio Times specifically about working with Jude Law, who will portray Dumbledore in the saga, and his and Newt Scamander's relationship. That can be watched below.
Quote:
What's it like to be film a scene with Dumbledore?
Eddie Redmayne: Ah, what's it like to film a scene with Dumbledore? It was so much fun, working with Jude. I've known Jude for years, and I like him hugely. It's really wonderful watching him find the young version of Dumbledore. I'm trying to think of what else I can say without getting shot! The answer's very very little.
Sum up his performance in one word.
Redmayne: Playful.
How big is Newt's role this time around?
Redmayne: He's pretty central - it's really a progression of the story, where we left off, what's going on with him, and his relationship with Dumbledore. I can't say anything!
Redmayne also popped by the Palace Theatre last week to see the current production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This is not his first time, as he attended the Lumos gala performance with the original cast in September 2016.
How Fantastic! Eddie Redmayne (known to the Wizarding World as Newt Scamander) saw #CursedChild this weekend and met members of the London cast after the show. pic.twitter.com/DNUlCwWUpj
Eddie Redmayne is quite literally one of the nicest guys I’ve ever spoken to!! How can you be an Oscar winning actor and be THAT humble, genuine & generous in praise. What a joy it was to meet him! https://t.co/f2tl9XNMgy
Warner Bros. Pictures announces Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald as the title of the second of five all new adventures in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World™. Opening exactly one year from today, November 16, 2018, the film features an ensemble cast led by Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, with Jude Law and Johnny Depp.
At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.
In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is being directed by David Yates, from a screenplay by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, and produced by David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram.
