'Driving Lessons' gets rating in US & Ireland

Back in May, the British Board of Film Classifications announced that 'Driving Lessons', starring Rupert Grint, was to receive a 15 certificate, meaning that if you are below that age, you will not be permitted to see the film in cinemas in the UK. The reasons cited for this decision included "strong language".

The Motion Picture Association of America has now given 'Driving Lessons' a PG-13 certificate, meaning that anyone below that anyone below that age must be accompanied by an adult, in order to see the film in the US. The reasons stated for this rating include "language, sexual content and some thematic material."

Additionally the movie will also be shown on ITV1 as a part of the British station's autumn line-up, though no exact date has been announced yet.

UPDATE: The Irish Film Censors Office has announced that 'Driving Lessons' will get a 15A certificate in Ireland, meaning anyone below that age must be accompanied by an adult in order to see the movie. Interestingly, the film runs at 98 minutes in the UK, but only 87 minutes in Ireland.

'Driving Lessons' will be released in the UK on September 8th and on October 13th in the US.

lol ya... US ratings seem a bit looser than UK ones.... 13 and under for us, 15 and under for them.... lol.... that's funny.

WotcherKait 08-17-2006 12:30 PM

A PG-13 rating, eh? Well, I guess that does seem appropriate, from the 'Driving Lessons' pictures I've seen on the movie's LiveJournal. I can't wait to see it though! And, I'm fourteen, so I guess I'm lucky! :]]

Olivia Granger 08-17-2006 12:38 PM

I thought it would. Even though I'm not 13 (yet) I'm sure I'll get to see it. Somehow...

I live in the U.S. and I'm 14! SO, I'm fine. But, if I lived in the U.K. then I'd have to bring an adult with me.

No. You wouldn't be able to see it at all, in the cinema.

Radcliffesgal4eva 08-17-2006 01:33 PM

I'm so happy for them. Too bad I haven't heard any news regarding DL in Aust...maybe I just haven't been keeping my eyes peeled (how eww does that saying sound? Seriously LOL). I can't wait until it is though!

Ink 08-17-2006 02:33 PM

I have been wanting to see this movie for ages. :] And I'm fourteen, so I can legally (okay, maybe not legally, but morally) go see it, as I'm turning fifteen in January of 2007.

hermione4 08-17-2006 02:37 PM

I find it kind of funny how culturally they are less conservative than we are as a whole, but we gave a PG-13. Ah well.

Can't wait to see it.

followthebutterflies 08-17-2006 02:41 PM

It really is surprising that the US ratings are looser than the UK's, but it has to be that way unless our movie rating system defines the area between PG-13 and R. But I'm really excited about this movie, and since I'm 14, I can see it! Yay!

qoldenwonder 08-17-2006 02:51 PM

Omg thast cool! im the US and im 13 so im allowed to watch it...but actullay it wouldnt matter to my parents if i was a little younger,i could still watch it anyway, lol!!!! just saying, lol

footballbabii15 08-17-2006 03:03 PM

yesssss .. im in the US and am 15 soo its alllllll GREAT here!! i cant wait!! yay!! now im excited!! :D

ilovehermione244 08-17-2006 03:21 PM

that is so dumb in the UK...some people are mature. but i dont have to worry about it in the US...where i live:)

actually people under 13 can see PG-13 movies...it just says "parents strongly cautioned"...we are much looser than the UK, people here can only see R rated movies with an adult only...but everyone is permitted to see pg-13 and below...

daniel_radcliffe_fan_4eva 08-17-2006 03:54 PM

im 15 anyway so im already old enough. hehe. it's a bit strange that the US rating is lower than the UK but i suppose they had their reasons. :)

ahshlyn 08-17-2006 03:57 PM

I suppose that means I can watch it... Because with GoF, every province in Canada except Alberta & Quebec, it was rated PG-13. In Alberta it was rated PG and then in Quebec it was rated, hard to believe, G. Or something like that. I just want to watch Driving Lessons... And now I can!! Oh Happy Days!!!!!

SuperJess! 08-17-2006 03:58 PM

Awsome No Need To Go To The Cinema If Its Gonna Be Shown On ITV1 Wicked Stuff I Now Love ITV1 If They Show It.

mione_girlgwp 08-17-2006 04:18 PM

I am so excited!! I can\'t wait to see DL! :woot:

r+h4ever1 08-17-2006 04:24 PM

That\'s great! I\'m actually is relieving to me because compared to other PG-13 movies that are released, Driving Lessons has less objectionable content than some of those movies. [Granted, since they say the "F" word more than twice, that was their concern] I\'m so excited!

Thanks Emma!

Shannon :hello:
