Dario Marianelli to compose OotP soundtrack?
 

The Internet Movie Database has listed Dario Marianelli as the composer for the 'Order of the Phoenix' soundtrack. Most notably, Dario was recently nominated for an Oscar for his score for Pride & Prejudice. If this is true [it hasn't been confirmed, yet] then, as with 'Goblet of Fire' [which was scored by Patrick Doyle, as opposed to John Williams] Hedwig's Theme will most likely, still be present. Marianelli also composed music for V for Vendetta and The Brothers Grimm.

We'll keep you up-to-date on any new developments!

EDIT: WB have said that "The composer for HP5 has not yet been confirmed." We'll most likely hear more nearer post-production.

^ I thought the same way about the last soundtrack. I love John Williams and I thought Patric wouldn't be able to uphold the standars we've grown used to in the first three movies. But I was pleasantly surpried. The music matched Goblet perfectly and I'm am so moved by alot of the album.

Plus I'm sure they wouldn't chose anyone to compile a soundtrack for Harry Potter who is not up to the job or lacks what the movies producers are after!

I'll just find myself sitting waiting for more news for now though!

i really quite liked patrick doyles score, the opening music was brilliant, John Williams was fantastic aswell but I found GOF soundtrack much darker and more real. But I havent seen any of the movies this new guys done but I have wanted to see those movies so I now have an incentive.

The Pride and Prejudice Soundtrack was flashy - well yes, and in a good sense - and I hope that if she does compose the OOTP Soundtrack, she works hard and devotedly on it, to produce the best for us lil Waiting-for-OOTP-ers.

This Marianelli guy has got some impressive body of work, but I think I would like Williams back for OotP.

I will admit that John Williams is a god (I have worshipped him for YEARS), but I will say that Pride and Prejudice is the second best movie of all time (behind Moulin Rouge, of course), and I am absolutely OBSESSED with the music from it. I believe that Dario Marianelli is quite diverse in his talents, being that he can go from fantasy (The Brothers Grimm), to period piece (Pride and Prejudice), to action (V), and have all the scores sound different. Now with John Williams, that is not the case. Memoirs of a Geisha was the first time in YEARS that I most likely would not have been able to recognize it as Williams' work had I just listened to it and not known who had composed it. Everything he write usually has something used from a previous work. For instance, I play the piano and one of the Williams pieces that I play is called "I Remember" from the movie Hook. There is one measure of music that is EXACTLY from Star Wars, rhythm, notes, and all. It was BLATANTLY obvious. I was then playing Across the Stars from AotC, which is the love theme from that movie. I then turned back to the beginning of I remember and it was the same theme, just in a different key and with a different rhythm (and without the huge chords that he uses- sometimes I don't have enough fingers to accomodate for them!). Don't get me wrong, if John Williams were sixty years younger I would definitely marry him, because I believe he is the greatest composer of all time, but his work does not vary as much as Dario Marianelli's. I believe that John Williams was a good choice; I believe Patrick Doyle was a good choice, and I believe that Dario Marianelli, if the Internet Movied Database is true, that he will also be a good choice.

I just hope the soundtrack sound good!

John Williams is the best composer ever!!!! He my favorite composer, he did the scores for all my favorite movies like Harry Potter(Duh), Star Wars, and ET!!!!! And he came up with the Jaws music, the man's a genius!!!

i thought Alfonso was AMAZING. But it was probably just because of all the years seeing Chris Columbus' work. CC made it all look so bright and cheery and..kind of sickening.

I still have yet to see Pride and Prejudice. I'm reading the book right now (I wanna read it before I see it) and i like it so far. I just really want to see the movie. So when I do I will have to listen to the music :) Thanks for the info! :D

And just as a side note: JOHN WILLIAMS ROCKS! Though Patrick Dole was very very good I love the music in GoF so hopefully this guy will be as good as them! ;)

OH OH OH DARIO MARIANELLI. He was BRILLIANT with Pride and Prejudice (honestly, I don't see how it didn't win the oscar for best music) and I think he's PERFECT for OoTP. This is SO exciting.

when little things happened the music wouldbe a
little extreme like when harry shot up the red sparks

John Williams is great and I wish he would do it. But he is probably busy with other commitments, so as long as its someone who has composed other music that has been good. Yeah I think being Oscar nominated is pretty good. If it is him, I think it will be good. Maybe HP will even get an Oscar for best score? Hey I can dream and you never know....

Personally, I agree with those that hope for John Williams return! I liked Patric Doyle's music, but John Williams is still my favorite! I just hope if he doesnt come back that they find someone comperable!
