Dan Radcliffe discusses Harry & Ginny's romance in Half-Blood Prince (UPDATED)

A reporter from the Chilean magazine Wikén spoke to Daniel Radcliffe and director David Yates on the Half-Blood Prince set in the early days of production about Harry and Ginny's budding relationship.

HG Network was kind enough to translate the Spanish article into English:

Quote:

Against all expectations, the sixth installment of the saga will not be as dark as the previous one. In spite of the tragic end of Harry's mentor, Dumbledore (Michael Gambon), the movie actually revolves around the awkward and comical romance between Harry and Ginny Weasley, sister of Harry's best friend Ron (played by Bonnie Wright, who made her debut in the second installment).

Here is what Radcliffe had to say on this topic: "It's a complex story, it isn't a simple romance because Harry is such a close friend of Ron's, and Ginny is his sister, and Harry feels as if he's walking on eggshells". According to director David Yates, "the fifth [film] was pretty intense, but this one has more comedy in it (...) There are many subtleties in the relationship, and a lot of sexual and emotional tension". The movie also promises a lot of action and magic galore, and it will count with at least one scene that is not in the book.
The reporter also mentions seeing Alan Rickman on-set as Severus Snape the day they visited, as well as the Slug Club party scene:

Quote:

In the scene he witnessed during the day of shooting, the new professor in the school of Hogwarts, Horace Slughorn (by British actor Jim Broadbent known for secondary roles in classics like Brazil and Richard III), celebrates a Christmas party in their chambers for students and group walk in groups chatting with the guests, trying to win the favor of their favorite students.
Half-Blood Prince hits cinemas November 21st.

UPDATE: DR.com have a full translation of the set report, which contains the following quote about Deathly Hallows;

Quote:

"The only problem is that people could think we want to use this last chance to make more money, but the great advantage to do it so is that we won't be fighting the battle of condensing the whole book in a couple of hours that we have fought so far," comments producer David Barron, and points out that both films will be self-standing entities.

cake.ninjak 03-22-2008 08:31 AM

Despite all the stupid stuff that's going on with this movie, I'm still excited. :)

FearlessLeader19 03-22-2008 08:42 AM

Nice! I would love to see Slughorn! Can't wait for the film!

Bonnie made her debut in the first film. I mean, yeah, the part was short but still...

Anyways, November isn't too far away now... -.-

"the movie actually revolves around the awkward and comical romance between Harry and Ginny Weasley"

That's precisely what I feared.... I like a bit of romance, but it's not the point of the story. WB just doesn't get it, and never will. HBP is a dark book.

Emma C.D. Watson 03-22-2008 09:29 AM

:hermy:
Lord i hope they dun put too much of romance in it..hbp is not abt h/g romance..it's more ron-lav-mione stuff...dh has more h/g.
i want hbp 2 stay true to book..since i keep hearing tht hbp has lots of new movie scenes...

HP301 03-22-2008 09:55 AM

I can't wait to watch the movie!!
The 6th book was my favourite one so I hope the movie will be good, too.

why?! :\

I hope it ain't too much romance, because that was just a little part of the story...there is way more to it than just Harry and Ginny together! There's all the drama with Voldemort and the Horcruxes, the stuff with Voldemort's past, Harry's obsession with finding out what Malfoy has been up to...there is WAY more to the story than just romance!

Eclipsed 03-22-2008 10:15 AM

Haha, this sounds really great.
Can't wait until November.

Hollister 03-22-2008 10:28 AM

I cannot wait for this movie!
Tis my fave book ^.^

I LOVE Jim Broadbent! He's in everything

CaityCrucio 03-22-2008 10:52 AM

This has just made me even more excited!

Cool interview/article. They got their info a bit wrong though. Bonnie was in the first HP film

cgold 03-22-2008 12:09 PM

Great. I'm getting more and more excited to see this movie. Against all odds it looks like it might turn out good.

A new scene that's not even from the book, that's stupid. If your going to make a H.P. film, do it right. Don't add stuff that shouldn't be there. I don't like David Yates. He messed up the 5th one and now he's going to ruin the 6th. He better not be director of the 7th because he'll mess that up to and ruin the whole thing for harry potter fans.

I'm pretty sure they already confirmed that Yates is directing DH.

I'm still extremely excited for the movie to come out, though the interview raises a bit of concern. I hope they don't take out the whole everyone paranoid of Voldemort and Voldemort's history lessons with Dumbledore aspects. The interview makes it sound like the movie will be a romance comedy with Dumbledore killed out of nowhere at the end. Don't get me wrong, I'd be furioius if they took out all of the romance, but it is only a subplot. And adding extra scenes is always a cause for slight panic among the HP fanatics. But there was one interview with Tom Felton where he said that he has read both the book and the script and that there isn't anything major being taken out. Hopefully he's being honest there.

I'm so excited about the film!! I can't wait 'til November comes!!

Padie 03-22-2008 01:33 PM

I swear this is starting to scare me :/ If there's as much romance in the film as they're making it sound then I'm going to be very, very, very disappointed to say the least *sigh*

[QUOTE=Alohomora;6359547]I'm pretty sure they already confirmed that Yates is directing DH.

You're right. WB confirmed Yates is set to Direct both parts of DH. And regardless of what they change book-movie, JK has to approve it all before it gets made and if she is happy with it so I am!!

** So EXCITED for Nov 21!!**

Mrs Felton 03-22-2008 02:06 PM

I hope the film doesn't revolve around Harry and Ginny..

Anna Banana 03-22-2008 02:10 PM

I'm not too excited about the part in the movie that's not in the book, but it's all cool. I'm really funny about the movies staying as true to the books as possible. I think I'm going to like it not being so dark. As long as I get to see Hermione sending the flock of birds to Ron, I'll be okay.

Mrs. Ginny potter 03-22-2008 02:24 PM

This book is my favorite one i'm really scared about what they are going to do with it.

I didn't really like movie 5 but i think people should stop blaming David Yates about the shortness of the movie and other things that the script writer is really to blame for.

The extra scene is being added to remind us that the world is no longer a save place and that the Muggle world is also experiencing disasters.
You can't make the movie audiance find out about these things by watching Harry or Hermione read the newspaper like in the books so you need to show them.
And an extra scene is the perfect way to do that. I don't understand why people don't get this.
The scene isn't really new either because we did read about it in the book apparently but Harry wasn't there so because the books are mostly from his point of view we found out about what had happened in the newspaper or when people were talking about how somebody's parents had been killed or something.

La La 03-22-2008 02:24 PM

Ug one scene not in the book.

THis is making me madder and madder.
