Dan Radcliffe confirms Spielberg not directing Deathly Hallows

At last night's BAFTA awards, Daniel Radcliffe was asked about whether or not Steven Spielberg would direct the final installment(s) of the Harry Potter films, Deathly Hallows, and had this to say:

Quote:

Speaking at the BAFTA ceremony in London yesterday, he told Heart radio: "I have no idea how that rumour started or where it came from. It's not true. How's that for a definitive answer?

"It's absolute rubbish that Spielberg is directing the final film. It's not true. There's absolutely no foundation in that at all."
Dan also stated that he was having fun filming Half-Blood Prince, and that "[they are] getting through it alright."

hmmmm....wonder whos gonna direct the 7th.....first to post

FoxFire 02-11-2008 05:04 PM

Well that's alright. Don't think I'd really want him to [:/]

Dawlish 02-11-2008 05:38 PM

wonder who it'll be then?

EmmaRiddle 02-11-2008 05:48 PM

I think it'll be David Yates.

Lionella 02-11-2008 06:12 PM

Hmmm... well, hope they'll find a good director to the 7th film.

Padie 02-11-2008 08:00 PM

I also think it'll probably be Yates again

Is it me, or did Dan's answer sound a little snipey?

I'd have to agree with Emma and Padie. I think it'll probably be Yates. I'll have to see HBP first before I can say whether that excites or bothers me. :) I liked OotP, but that could have been "beginner's luck." ;)

I know it's clearly probably not possible, but I would have loved Peter Jackson to do it just because he was so faithful to the LotR books. And I have to admit, I would have loved to see Spielberg direct DH.

I wouldn't object to Chris Colombus coming back to be honest. I think he did a great job on the first two. I think it could end the series nicely with being able to have that circle. I think one of the Potter films' weaknesses is that they have been directed by different directors...

Hopefully, whoever it is will do the book justice.

Shannon :hello:

who knows...........

Little Trooper 02-11-2008 08:45 PM

I think it might be Yates also. But who knows.

RemusBlack 02-11-2008 08:48 PM

I HOPE IT'S YATES! :D

Oooh cap abuse. xD

Embem 02-11-2008 08:52 PM

Glad to get a clear answer from somebody for once! Hope it's Yates who gets it, but I don't really care as long as it's not Cuaron. I also think that it would be great for Peter Jackson to do it, but not really any chance of that unfortunately. :(

Mrs Felton 02-11-2008 09:21 PM

I'm glad it's not Spielberg to be honest, I hope it's Yates.

I agree with Shannon. It would of been nicer if they had stuck to the same director throughout the movies.

Whoever it is, I hope they do a good job.

Considering the amount of special effects that are gonna be needed, I think Spielberg would be quite good, but there are others that would be great!

griffin_girl 02-11-2008 11:28 PM

yeah, I wasn't at all ecstatic when I heard the rumor, so I guess I'm kinda glad to hear that. lol

Azalii 02-12-2008 01:57 AM

Hmm. I'm not even sure that Speilberg would be a good choice for directing a Harry Potter movie. I still think Guillermo Del Toro (sorry for any spelling mistakes) would be an awesome choice.

dancerbookl 02-12-2008 02:03 AM

I want all the directors to get together for that last one

ladycplum 02-12-2008 02:22 AM

If it's Yates or Cuaron, I'm bailing. Dagnabbit, bring on Joss Whedon!!!!! and WOOHOO RIFFTRAX!!!!!!!!!!!!! :woot: I bought the Potter track last month and I urge everyone with a healthy sense of humour to do the same thing. I was falling out of my chair every few minutes.

argentinaz_angel 02-12-2008 02:54 AM

Aww goodie, one thing I notice about Spielberg is that there is not one moment where music isnt playing xD

I want piccies of HBP already! *begs*

Melted 4 HP 02-12-2008 03:20 AM

woot woot cant wait :P

half_blood_prince 02-12-2008 06:04 AM

wow how interesting

Ginpotter 02-12-2008 07:08 AM

I'm happy they are having fun. :D I don't know but I think Spielberg will just spoil the movie. I still didn't like his idea when he was nominated to direct the first movie.

hpluvr037 02-12-2008 12:11 PM

That's nice to hear, but who is directing DH?

I think quite the opposite; changing directors keeps it fresh and adds new life into the series. Chamber of Secrets was dull...but maybe that's Chris Columbus' style (or maybe that's to do with the book itself). We'll see with Half-Blood Prince, given that this is the second time Yates will have done a HP movie, whether it'll be true for him too.

That's the point; we don't know because it hasn't been announced. Hence the speculation.
