Dan Radcliffe confirmed to star in 'Equus' - UPDATED
A while ago, there was a rumuor going around about Dan Radcliffe appearing as Alan Strang in the play Equus. The rumour was debunked, however, as he was not in the play at that time due to his filming schedule. It has now been confirmed that Dan will be in the play, along with fellow HP actor Richard Griffiths (Uncle Vernon).
Dan sent the following message to DR.com and DR.co.uk: Quote:
I'm really excited to be part of this production and thrilled to be working with Richard Griffiths again. This is obviously a huge departure for me as an actor, but Equus is such an amazing play that this really was an opportunity not to be missed. Rehearsal starts in January and I am very much looking forward to working with Thea Sharock who is an incredibly talented director. I only hope I do the role justice.

Peter Shaffer's Equus first premiered in 1973 in London, England and won a multitude of awards. Equus focuses on the relationship between seventeen-year-old Alan Strang (Radcliffe), who has blinded six horses with a spike, and Martin Dysart (Griffiths), a middle-aged psychiatrist who tries to figure out what drove Strang to commit the crime.
The play itself is quite complex, interwoven with symbolism, underlying truth and meaning, passion and madness. It is not suitable for a younger crowd. … there is much speculation about the possible "nudity" involved in some of the scenes, but there have been various renditions of this production without nudity as well. None of that has been determined as yet.
| The play is scheduled to run in the spring. UPDATE: According to Dan Radcliffe's publicist Vanessa Davies, there will be a nude scene. Quote:
This is an extraordinary play and, yes, there is a scene of nudity in it, but that's not what the play is about.
He (Dan) finishes shooting 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' in October or November and rehearsals are starting in January. The play is expected to open in March.
| This shouldn't affect ' Half-Blood Prince', given that ' Order of the Phoenix' will be in post-production during the time in which Dan is due to star in this play. UPDATE #2: The Daily Mail states that the play will run from February 27th to June 19th. |
