Bets placed on Cho dying in HBP

The Sun reports that inexplicably, recently lots of people having been placing bets on Harry's ex-girlfriend, Cho Chang, dying in the next novel, Half-Blood Prince.

Quote:

And last night internet firm Blue Square reported a flood of bets on love interest Cho Chang — played on screen by Katie Leung — dying in Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince.

Spokesman Ed Pownall said: “It’s very odd. Even the betting pattern has been a bit mysterious.

“A lot of people have opened accounts in the middle of the night and placed their first-ever bets on Cho Chang being killed off.

“This suggests they at least think they know something.

“The maximum punt for this kind of bet is £100 and we’ve had a few of them as well as several of £50.

“This has forced us to cut the odds on Cho by more than half from 8-1 to 3-1.”
Quote:

Ed joked: “We’ve yet to see the name Rowling appear on the betting ticker, so these mysterious bets haven’t spooked us completely yet.

“But much more money for young Cho and it looks like she could be hanging up her wand forever.”
One of JK's representatives dismissed the rumor as “pure speculation”, he said: “Only JK knows what’s in the book she is currently writing.

“Until it’s finished and edited, no one can be sure what happens.”

Eesh. That's odd.. I'm starting to think it's a likely thing now. Plus she doesn't really do much now, apart from cry... not much use for her.

EmmaRiddle 10-22-2004 09:28 AM

Yeah, she's fulfiled her character potential...the only thing left to do with her is to give her the chop. Oooh I'm mean....lol...*rubs hands together*

Siriusly_in_Love 10-22-2004 10:58 AM

*gaps* If I find that anyone bet on Sirius' dying, I'll kick their bum. lol.

That's interesting news, though... a bit odd how it happened so suddenly. My money's on Lupin, though.

EmmaRiddle 10-22-2004 11:06 AM

Though I wouldn't bet, my money would be on more than one person. It's a war so just one death would not be realistic. Possibly Hagrid, Ginny, McGonagall or Lupin.

Homing Hippogriffs 10-22-2004 11:07 AM

i think lupin will die too, i dont think cho will die, she isnt a major character so i just dont think she will die.

sm611 10-22-2004 12:07 PM

well, Cedrik wasn't a major character either, and i'm praying that cho does die, die, die!!!!!!!! anyway i saw this news article on msn.com that J.K is going to kill off another character in the next book. i hope it's not anyone i like!

LilRavenclaw 10-22-2004 12:38 PM

Mmmmm well here's hoping.....

ChildoftheElves 10-22-2004 12:52 PM

I think Ginny's too much of a main character. She's going to have some significance in the next few books i'll bet. I think maybe she and harry'll get together. Cho, maybe because she does seem like she's done enough in the books, but you know those crazy writers, they like to twist stories until we have absolutely no clue what's going on. (coming from a writer, i know that's true :D) I don't think Lupin will die, he's too much like Sirius, and that'll just basically be a repeat of what happened before...but that's just my opinion :D

serenasnape 10-22-2004 12:53 PM

This would be a strange choice to me, considering Cedric was her boyfriend when he was killed. I say, not likely! :violin:

*Snivellus* 10-22-2004 12:59 PM

I agree with the first three posters ;-)

She doesnt really play any important role (or atleast not in OotP) ...

I agree, but I think Cho will die. I just hope it isn't Lupin. J.K. did say Harry would lose someone special, and losing the first person you ever fell in love with would be very traumatic. Besides, I may think she'll die, but I wouldn't put money on it !!!

assassin_47 10-22-2004 01:56 PM

jeesus i think i should start these posts on here, seriously that was posted yesterday in THE SUN

i think that this is just a hoax to get us all thinking, personally i think that its going to be hagrid that gets killed off i dont want it to but ive got a feeling...

i dont think that its going to be cho, as even though her part has been played i think that theres going to be an extra bit, c'mon is JK really going to kill off 2 characters that have both been in thier final year at hogwarts... especially since they both were key characters in GoF

thats just my opinion though...

StephanieRiddle 10-22-2004 02:38 PM

KILL CHO! I never liked her that much anyway. Harry should fall in love with me! LOL! But I will stage a protest in my Kitchenette if its Draco they kill. Tom Felton is da bomb!

lunano1 10-22-2004 02:42 PM

She may die, but I don't really think so.

Since there might be a war and everything I'm thinking Dumbledore? I mean he is the only one that Voldemort is scared of right? So it would be a very interesting twist if suddenly he was to be killed a very interseting twist indeed.

BUT, it will be sad if anyone dies, I mean Sirius sent me howling:cry:

:violin:

Riiya 10-22-2004 04:02 PM

i still wish that Harry goes back with Cho..or rather Cho runs back to Harry.
in my opinion, i dont think its Cho. i heard rumours however that Ron might go... :(

don't hate me or anything. like always, its just rumours.
Reason? : Cedrik's wand is a Unicorn's Tail right? or was it Hair? oh whatever it is, its the same core as Rons...they say Cedricks wand is a wand that represents death, and since Cedrick died..maybe...Ron might too... :(

assassin_47 10-22-2004 04:23 PM

well thats just stupid, c'mon do u really think that JK would kill off ron?

get real

Riiya 10-22-2004 04:35 PM

lol. thats the thing...she's unpredictable.

lotrfrk11 10-22-2004 05:24 PM

hahaha...

that's funny.

It can't get much more obvious than Ron saying "Die, Ron, die" (in relation to the tea leaves - "I couldn't care if they read, die, ron, die.") in the books. He practically predicted his own death. Plus the wand thing, that symbolises death too. So does PS and the chess game. Ron sacrificing himself so Harry can go on and Hermione staying at Ron's side. Symbolism at its best.

Don't be rude to people, they're only putting forward their ideas.

Unless that what she wants everyone to think so that everyone expects him to die then she wham slams you with someone else dying you never would have expected...Ootp anyone. And don't tell me you didn't think for one second Arthur wouldn't possibly die.

Which would make it all the more likely don't you think? You wouldn't expect it, she's a minor character now...I never once thought...which would make it highly likely where's the fun in knowing who's going to die...author's play with reader's like that because they can, and we read them for the same reason, so they can surprise us.

I don't think Lupin will die too much like Sirius someone said, and I totally agree. As for one death, yeah...it's a war more than likely a few will die...and I don't think it would be Draco [he's a villain I'd say there the only safe characters right now] in book seven though all bets are off...every wizard and witch for themselves. Cho's gone...Lupin won't be I don't think. Hagrid would be a good bet, and don't forget Hedwig. The Dursley's are the safest.

I thought for one second but then realised it was not important enough. I reacted alot more alarmingly when Ron's dead body was in Molly's arms. That scared the heck out of me but alas, I see it happening. I didn't see the Arthur thing coming - although I did suspect he'd be at the end of some form of attack, as the Weasleys have been before. I never thought he'd actually die because well, the way it was built up, the attack, it didn't seem to have foundation enough for grounds of murder on JK's part.

yes-yes. its not like i want him to die, its just a possibility that he might go...i think i'll stick to this. if its wrong, then its wrong. :P

Singularity 10-22-2004 07:56 PM

Ehh...Truthfully, I wouldn't be too upset if she died...but then, I can't hold a grudge against her for a simple thing like playing with a boy's emotions. I don't really think she'll be dying.
