Oh, noooooo... I loved him for part I, you know, but I wanted John Williams to come back :(

I’m not going to get mad like I did last January, but I’m not going to lie…this does feel like a stab in the gut. I have no doubt in my mind that Desplat is a talented composer with a wonderful musical imagination. However, I really wanted to end the series with John Williams. He was the one who brought the films to life for me with “Hedwig’s Theme” and gave the films that depth and imagination on screen, like the books. It seems only appropriate that he would be the one to finish it off and bring the series to a close with a proper finale. It would be nice for someone to use “Hedwig’s Theme” throughout the series the way Williams did, especially with “Harry’s Wondrous World,” at the end somewhere when the new generation rides off to Hogwarts.

Oh well, we could have ended up with a simply horrid composer. At least we’ve got someone like Desplat to take us to the close and for that I'm grateful.

I wonder if John W. didn't want to come back or if his schedule was full? Oh well, Desplat is brilliant. I love the score for Part 1. :)

Agreed. I have no problem with Desplat at all, but he better clearly include some part of Hedwig's Theme for Part II. I have trouble hearing it from the Part I soundtrack. <_<

Other than that, it's great that Desplat is composing for both parts. Keeps everything consistent. :)

its great that we have a good composer but I wanted John Williams, I love his work.

laura-tonks 11-07-2010 10:12 PM

Hang on it says conducting-does it mean composing as well?

R-Luchy~W*7*PG~ 11-07-2010 10:41 PM

Oh,okey.. Hope the score will be great..

daffodilical 11-07-2010 11:04 PM

Yeah, conducting and composing are quite different but from the blurb I gather that he's composing as well.

Good news to me!

I completely agree with you. Although I have respect for Desplat's work and appreciate his efforts on part 1 of Deathly Hallows and I'm not trying to compare any of their work as both composers are great in their own way, but John Williams was the one who introduced Harry Potter to us with his memorable compositions which will always stand out in our minds and it's quite symbolic of Harry Potter to some extent. His music tone grasps the magic in these stories that we fell in love with and to be honest, no matter how great the other compositions for movies after POA were, they followed a different mode, all great in their own way, but still missing that significant sweetness and fantasy that can be heard in William's work. John William was capable of engaging you in his music in a distinctive way just as JK Rowling was capable of narrating Harry Potter in a manner that attracted her readers. Personally, to me it almost feels like John Williams gave more depth and brought forth a music that transformed that special magic written in books into reality and without him this whole Harry Potter experience that we've grown up with wouldn't be complete. He's part of a package that can't be separated especially now that the movies are coming to a close and we need the previous memories summed up towards the end.

OMG! I can't wait for that soundtrack, and the Part I soundtrack hasn't even come out yet! It's going to be brilliant; the work Desplat has already put into Potter is amazing. I can't wait!

silverarrowgriffin 11-08-2010 08:13 AM

that's nice! i like DH1 soundtrack.it'd be sad that john williams isnt making the ost but desplat is really good and i hope he does justice to the finale :D

I agree with you. Desplat is ok but J. Williams would have been the best person to do the score for DH.

cherbear09 11-08-2010 07:10 PM

i'll be happy as long as it sounds like the harry potter we know, i am enjoying the samples of the soundtrack on the website so far for the first soundtrack so i am sure it will be fine!

hpluvr037 11-08-2010 08:48 PM

Huh. I don't want to judge the DH1 soundtrack until I see how it fits with the movie, but hearing it alone I wasn't too impressed. We'll see if this is good news or not.

spiral_star 03-27-2011 02:19 PM

ohhh... he's the one from king's speech, right. I remember that name anywhere. he's actually doing a nice job too.. but you know, the previous one was a little bit better... but hey, i'm not going to crack or get mad over music stuffs.
