GroundsHave a case of cabin castle fever? Best to take a break from all the stone corridors and go hang out by the lake, or explore the expansive school grounds. Don't forgive to send your regards to Bartholomew Henry!
The Topiary Garden is home to creatures both magical and mundane. From Hippogriffs to rabbits and everything in between, these figures have been trimmed from specially selected plants to provide a relaxing environment for you.
Take a seat on the grass or perhaps on one of the polished, wooden benches and inhale the crisp freshness of the air. More often than not, you may find yourself being distracted by a topiary as it waves to you or it randomly scratched its nose. Once in a while, they may even resort to performing a small hilarious act if they are not receiving enough attention. Professor Hawkins asks that you refrain from interacting roughly with the topiaries. None would want a broken wing or a twisted paw.
OOC: The topiaries are charmed to move about, however their actions wouldn’t be anything over the top. There will be no attacking the students and professors or dragons breathing fire. You are free to RP for the topiaries as well as to decide what sort of creatures live in the garden!
Angel wasn't much of a garden person. It didn't attract his interest and he frankly didn’t have any special skill for them. He wouldn’t even be out here, visiting the topiary, had it not been for overhearing a housemate mention something about a hippogriff. Apparently, he and his girlfriend had been hanging out quite closely when a hippogriff showed up and killed the mood—whatever that was.
The first year wasn’t new to interacting with magical creatures. His aunt (Xelene’s mom) owned a sanctuary of sorts and when they visited he got to see many creatures. She was very peculiar when keeping humans at a distance from her creatures, so Angel hasn’t ever had a chance to pet the hippogriff or fly on them. He knew his chances for the latter were slim here at school, too, but maybe he could pet one or feed it. He even brought bacon (which was stashed in his pants pocket at the moment).
Walking through the topiary garden he paused at times, admiring the moving plants. It was cool what magic did. He especially liked the dragon topiary, and so he stood in front of it, watching as it slowly moved its wings.

“WHY DO YOU STARE?” a deep, almost masculine voice boomed.
The moment the words left her mouth, Ciara pressed a hand there in order to stifle the giggle threatening to escape. She remained well hidden behind the dragon topiary. Its slowly flapping wings provided an extra cover that allowed her to peek out in an attempt to read her Housemate’s facial and bodily reactions. Truly, the idea had popped into her head the moment she saw Angel being transfixed on this particular topiary. The hardest part had been disguising her voice - Cee possessed a highly feminine voice which was not always necessarily used in an indoor sort of manner.
But just what had Cee been doing here in the first place?
Just taking a stroll - she rather liked to feel the sunlight hitting her freckled face. In all honesty, she was quite impressed with all that she saw in the Garden. If ever she was feeling in the extra-helpful mood, she was going to have to ask the Groundskeeper if there was a chance she could assist by tending to the topiaries. These were certainly not the xeric sort of plants, and would require a great deal of care.

Right!
Back to Angel.
How would he respond?
Angel jumped and stumbled backwards, his feet bumping into one another, causing him to fall on his bum. Luckily, he landed on a grassy area and not on bare pavement, but it still hurt. His hands had managed to catch some of his weight, also sparing him from further hurting himself.
Heart still racing, Angel’s green eyes quickly glanced all around. Did that…did the…did the topiary dragon just speak to him? He had been brought up too muggle to understand this. Of course he’s seen moving topiary before, but none had spoken to him.
Maybe…this dragon was coming to life? Was that possible?

The reaction told Cee all that she needed to know.
She had created an eldritch sort of moment for Angel.
The poor guy. While she was thrilled that her little prank had been pulled off to perfection, she rather hoped he hadn’t hurt himself on the way down. Ciara decided to put her Housemate out of his… fear? Misery? She cackled loudly - like an evil witch - as she emerged from behind the dragon topiary, offering it a light pat on the nearest leafy side.
“Gotcha, Angel!” She skipped over to him and held a hand out to help him up. Yes, her voice was back to normal now. “You didn’t really think that the topiaries here could speak, did you?” Cee eyed him with curiosity, her expression softening. “It wouldn’t be a wild idea, but I don’t think they do.”

What was that cackle?
Had it not been for Ciara’s form coming from behind the dragon topiary, Angel would have thought another plant giant was coming to life. This was not amusing, though. He frowned as she stepped closer, his face burning. He shouldn’t have fallen for it.
“That’s not funny, Ciara,” he grumbled, standing up and rubbing his hands together to get rid of any dirt. His palms were red, but at least no scrapes. “I know topiaries can’t speak. You just caught me off guard,” he added, frowning at the Slytherin.
