Adi literally jogged back to his friend so that she wouldn’t fall too far behind.

“What is it you want to show me that’s so urgent?” Lux questioned, doing her best to keep up.

“A mermaid outfit!”

It came as no surprise that Lux gasped in surprise. Or was it in delight?

“Well, what are you waiting for? Lead the way!”

Adi laughed heartily as he did as asked. He noticed that Lux’s pace had also picked up. It wasn’t before long that they arrived at the shop.

“This is a sweet shop.” There was bewilderment in her voice.

“I know. I just wanted you to stop being slow, and I knew that anything mermaid would fix that issue.”

“Aditya Atreyu-Rehman, you trickster!” Lux playfully hit him with her fashionable handbag.

“But you love me!” Adi dodged another whack and sped into the shop. It was time to restock his sweet stash.

“I hope you like the combination of freesia and daisies, Keigh,” Jude remarked as he manually weaved the two types of flowers together. Not only the colours of the two were delightful and complemented each other but the scents they gave off were amazing!

The weaving slowly took shape, and before long, it was clear what was being made - a wonderful flower crown! Sure, he could magically put it together but for his baby sister, Jude would take all the time necessary to make it with his own hands just because she was worth it.

The professional dancer excitedly went up to Keighley. “Hold still,’’ he told her with a grin. Gently, it was set on her head before he carefully adjusted it.

“You’re absolutely gorgeous, Keigh!” Jude gushed. “The crown doesn’t enhance your beauty, it’s the other way around!”

His precious baby sister!

“Charlie and Olivia wouldn’t be able to keep their eyes off you.”

“Thank you, sweet Jude!” Keighley hugged her brother. “I love you!”

“I love you right back!”

Zeus had never in his life spent this much time shopping for clothing, or indeed, such a fabulous amount. But whatever Apollo wanted, he saw to it that Apollo got.

“I’m never going to wear all these clothing,’’ he playfully complained.

“Nonsense, Zeusy! You will, I’ll make sure of it.”

“Do I have any doubt? No, none at all.” The Healer planted a deep kiss on his husband’s lips. He was quite sure Apollo melted a bit. “Do you want us to start with the casual or formal ones?” He gestured to the huge array of clothing that took over the entire bed.

“You know me too well. As much I know you and can tell that you need to recharge. You should go rest, I got this.”

That was true. Zeus really wanted to nap. He really didn’t know how Apollo and Athena managed to shop for hours without feeling exhausted halfway through. “I’ll be in Shim’s room.” He touched Apollo’s chin fondly before departing.

When he awoke, he’d find one very organised closet of clothing, with the most outdated attires thrown out.

It was such a peaceful morning Aria decided as she sat outdoors at a small cafe. Before her on the small table, sat her sketch book. The goal was to prepare designs for another upcoming fashion show. Yet she wasn’t making the move to get started, for Aria was busy enjoying tilting her face towards the sun’s rays.

Then, those rays were obscured quite rudely. Kel wouldn’t do something so horrible. Aria’s eyes snapped open. “Ava.” Her tone was resigned.

“Hi, Aria! I was passing by when I saw you!” Ava flopped herself down on the opposite chair.

“Stalking, you mean.”

“No, no, I -”

With a wave of her wand, a thick, heavy and slightly dusty black covered book thudded on the table. “Listen up, Ava Cado,’’ Aria said, her eyes flashing dangerously. “Kel isn’t here right now to stop me so I swear to Merlin, I’m going to find the most ancient, most powerful curse in this grimoire and place it on you if you don’t get lost.”

Ava giggled, unfazed. "You're so funny, Aria. No worries, you must be busy, so I'll come back later!" She stood and skipped along before disappearing in the crowd.

6. Labyrinth

Hart could think of no better place to whisk Daf away for their honeymoon than to Egypt. What an itinerary he had planned for their stay there!

First up? The underground labyrinth that had recently been discovered by himself and his fellow archaeologists. The discovery wasn’t yet open to the public but being married to Hartley certainly had its perks.

“Safety first, babe,’’ Hart remarked as he handed over a helmet at the mouth of the labyrinth. The duo already had their sturdy footwear covered.

Daf grinned broadly and stuck the helmet on his head. “For the first time, I’m really getting into the head of an archaeologist.”

Hart laughed as he reached out to straighten the headwear. “Have I mentioned how incredibly cute you are?” He resisted the urge to say or do anything goofy because he was quite susceptible to such around his husband. “And we’re all set.” He too was now sporting a helmet. “Nothing dangerous has been found but keep your wand handy just in case.” Any form of danger could present itself suddenly.

“Lead the way,’’ Daf replied, smiling at how precious and caring Hartley was.

“Nope, we go side by side. Come on!”

“We think there’s a possibility this labyrinth was made by witches and wizards,’’ Hartley told Dafydd as they took the path directly before them. “There’s still much to explore but this path… we’ve done so to the end.” It was well illuminated, with orbs of white light floating at intervals. The couple’s shadows walked alongside them, imprinted on the walls on either side of them.

“What did you lot find?” Dafydd queries curiously, alternating his attention between his smoking hot husband and the spectacular layout of the place.

Hart’s reply was an excited one, mixed with pride. “Treasure! Lots and lots of it. All shapes, sizes and colours. Of course, we can’t touch them just yet since we need to check for protective enchantments. That’s being done right now.”

“That’s exciting!” Here, Daf paused for a moment to give Daf a shrewd look. “You would have been a part of that team, wouldn’t you?”

His husband was intuitive, something Hart admired about him. “Yes, but I haven’t any regrets. I’d rather be showing this place off to you.” In reassurance, real Hart and shadow-hart brought real Daf’s and shadow-Daf’s hand to their lips to press a kiss onto it.

“So you’re saying you only miss my help with studies?” Dio asked, barely keeping a straight face. Not for the last time was he lost in her beauty.

Kritti tossed her hair over her shoulder with playful haughtiness. “Not just that. I miss helping you study for Arithmancy and Runes.” It was her turn to be ‘serious’. She thought about how lucky she was that she could tease Dio in this manner and he'd play along. It was quite obvious how strong of a relationship they had forged throughout the years. “Not to worry. Thena has been helping a lot. Hermy too but you know her attention is elsewhere.” Kritti winked.

“Sounds like you’re having a good time without me.”

“It would be a lot better if you were here. You have no idea how much I miss you!”

“Mm, I think I do. I miss you too.” Dio blew her a kiss.

“Got it!” Giggling, Kritti pretended to catch it before pressing her fist to her lips.

“He’s growing up too quickly,’’ Raju stated, his tone soft and full of emotion. He felt his husband take his hand as they gazed skywards. Their youngest - Viano - was in the midst of a training session along with a few members of the Catapults. He had only just secured a spot on an under U17 team. Raju could not be more proud that Vi was following in his footsteps.

“It never gets easier,” Renner remarked.

“You would know better than I do.” Smiling, he squeezed Ren’s hand. After all, Ren had watched three kiddos become adults previously. Raju loved those three as much as his husband did; as he had with them, he had been drawn to Viano from the moment they met.

“I also know that Vi’s going to be successful on his quest to be among the best Quidditch players, just like his papa Raju.”

“Your confidence makes my heart feel light, my love.”

Renner chuckled. “I’m pleased to hear that.” He looked upwards again. “Look at him go! Isn’t he spectacular?”

“He certainly is,’’ Raju marveled as Vi scored another goal.

Camilo laughed at the frustrated look on his wife’s face. “It’s simple actually,” he said, tracing the thin gold chain that held the pendant of a tiger. “Which does your heart tell you to go with?”

Anita stared thoughtfully at Camilo. “One time it says the tiger, next it says the elephant then the next, both! I don’t like that I’m so undecided. You should pick instead.” Her gaze dropped to his finger tracing the tiger. “Or it seems you already have made your choice.”

In the end, Anita secured two identical amulets for their children. “Esha and Enrique are going to love these. We must keep the nazar away, don’t you agree, husband.”

“I do, wife. Our munchkins deserve to live their best life.”

Zachary liked to take time to reflect on his life, especially on the day he completed another rotation around the sun. In other words, on his birthday. At fifty-seven years old, certain dark events that had occurred very early in his life had almost faded from his mind where they constantly occupied space.

“Here you are.” Ansley stepped out onto the front of the house. He held a steaming mug of chamomile tea, handle pointed in Zach’s direction.

“Thank you, handsome.” Over the years, they had never stopped flirting with each other.

“Are you sure you don’t want to do something for your birthday?” Ansley sat on the loveseat close to Zach so that their arms were touching.

“I’m sure but…” He paused for a moment to ponder, tucking a strand of his long hair behind an ear. “Okay, how about this? We go out to dinner.”

“Perfect! I’ll make a reservation in a bit.” Ansley leaned over to kiss Zach on the cheek, who in turn leaned his head on Ansley’s shoulder.

This here - his person - was the reason Zach had been able to heal. Ansley had helped him through so much of that trauma.

Sachin let out a low and impressed whistle. “What do I think? I would say that I have an excellent taste both in clothing and in selecting a husband.” He wiggled his brows flirtatiously. The pair had been married for seventeen long years but to Sachin, Conley was still the most handsome man in the world. He now nodded his approval. “You look nothing short of royalty, Con. Very stylish, very sharp. All eyes will be on you instead of the groom.” The forest green kurta was elegant and richly embroidered with silver designs was pure perfection.

“You have such a way with words, my love. I appreciate them as much as I appreciate you.”

Sachin smiled warmly. “Okay, off you go to changed. Levi and Radhi are getting impatient for their ice cream parlour visit.” He inclined his head towards their children restlessly playing with toys on the floor.

“Be right back then!”

Rafael didn’t know it but he was tossing and turning restlessly as a nightmare played out in his head. In it, he saw himself attempting to fight off a Boggart. Try as he might, he was failing miserably as he stared down at a bloody version of what looked like himself. But it wasn’t really him, it was his twin brother Brody.

“Brody,” Rafa sobbed, reaching for the still form. “R-r-ridikulus!’’ The feeble attempt did nothing to resolve the situation and upon realising this, let out a whimper. It actually filled the room which made Dash jerk out of his sleep.

As the sounds continued, it took Dash a groggy moment to figure out the source. “Rafa!” Sitting up, he shook his husband urgently.

Rafa was awake in a second, though the dread and fear lingered. He needn’t say anything as Dash understood. And when his husband’s comforting arms went around him, he knew there would be no more nightmares.

"It's just a dream, Rafa. Everything's okay," Dash said, rubbing before giving his head a soft kiss.

“No.” He frowned.

“Makes sense you wouldn’t hear how out of shape you are.” Laughing, Wyatt punched Hunter in the arm before taking off with a fierce burst of speed across the grassy path that led to the Namsan Tower. He might be missing out on all the scenery on the way to one of the most popular Towers in Seoul but it could be admired on the way back.

Wyatt daren’t look over his shoulder for fear of losing ground; he was certain Hunter would catch up with him if he did. His determination was rewarded when he arrived at the foot of the Tower and among the rest of tourists gathered there. His breathing was heavy. Of course it would be after that sprint. Wy turned and spotted Hunter racing towards him. “Too late, Hunt. I won.”

"Yeah, but who's huffing and puffing now?" He smirked.

“Shut up, you. Let’s get another picture together for our scrapbook.”

"Can't get enough of my face?" Hunter winked. "I don't blame you, let's do it."

Gabriel chuckled. “You know there’s no such thing, Brode. They respond to me only because I give them the right amount of care and attention.”

“So… what I’m hearing is that I don’t do enough for them?” The annoyance in his voice was obvious but it wasn’t really directed at Gabe. Brody was more annoyed with himself for constantly almost killing Gabriel’s beloved plants, which by extension were also his.

“No.” Gabe patiently reholstored his wand which he had been using to water a blooming daffodil plant. “It’s that your heart is so full of love for them that sometimes you do too much.” He took Brody’s hands in his. “But for me, it’s the perfect amount.”

Brody smiled grudgingly. “You sure know how to melt my annoyance away.”

Peri straightened up then approached Aria and the mirror.

“What do you think?” Aria asked, holding her breath. Peri’s opinion mattered a great deal to her.

“What do I think? Aria, this is the most gorgeous dress I’ve ever seen! Kel will be speechless when he sees how breathtaking you look!”

Aria smiled, glad that Peri would be the only one to see the dress before that day. “Thank you, Peri. Not just for the compliment but for everything, especially for constantly dealing with that pesky fruit named Ava.” She held out her arms.

Peri didn’t hesitate to lean into the embrace. “I wouldn’t have it any other way. Besides, what are sisters for?”

“Some things are better left unsaid,” Emidio remarked.

“Someday I’m going to get it out of you, Emi.” The Créatures Magiques was overbrimming with confidence.

“You can try. I can’t promise you’ll be successful though.” Emidio threw a smirk.

“Did it steal your food?”

“Not confirming nor denying.”

“Pull your hair?”

Emi’s smirk grew wider.

“Broke your broomstick in half?”

“Quite persistent, aren’t you, Sahil?”

“Clearly you’re finding that out now. Did it jumpscare you?”

“I can’t hear you!” Emi stuffed a finger in each of his ears and took off in long strides for the Winged Horse Stables.

Sahil would have to jog to keep up. "JUMP ON YOUR SHOULDERS TO HITCH A RIDE?” he yelled, determined for his words to elude those fingers.

If it was going to take all day, Sahil was going to have that answer!

The worry lingered on Vicky’s face as he fixated on the lake adjacent to where he and Isaek sat for their lunch date. The waterfront restaurant offered a wonderful view of not only the lake, but of families on outings.

Family.

That was the source of his worry.

"Vicky, you okay?" Isaek’s voice cut through his thoughts. "I really hope that I’m the one preoccupying your mind that much.” Vicky then focused his attention back on the man seated opposite him.

“I know you wouldn’t be offended if I said your daughter. Our daughter?” Goodness, fate had certainly gotten creative in the way it wove his and Isaek’s lives together. “Just thinking about if she’ll want to speak to me.” Not wanting to spoil the mood, he dug into the morozhenoe before him. Isaek’s love for sweets was definitely seeping into his personality.

“She will.” Isaek’s smile almost made Vicky believe him. But when he stared blankly, Isaek continued. “She’ll chatter your ear off about her life then she’ll launch into every detail of Mars’.”

“How do you know? Are you an oracle delivering a sort of prophecy?”

“Maybe. You’ll owe me when you see how right I am.”

It was all a sort of armour, that toughness that Emi wore. This was something Sahil was quite sure about after really getting to know the other man. Something else he was quite sure about was that Emidio happened to be another one of Zoomie’s favourite hoomans. Emi should feel flattered; as far as Sahil knew, Zoomie had only had two of those, the other being himself.

Presently, the cat sat on its hind legs. It was looking up at Emi with dilated eyes.

“I know that look,’’ Sahil commented, turning back to the newspaper. “He’s about to pounce and settle in your lap.”

"...why are you warning me? Can't you stop him?" Emidio said dryly.

“I’m afraid I can’t. He’s already made his decision.”

“Sahil…”

“Emidio.”

Without any further warning, the furry creature leapt. With precision, Zoomie landed on Emi’s lap where he kneaded for a while before curling up.

“He’s so content,’’ Sahil observed.

Meanwhile, Emi’s left eye winked. Or was that a wince? Perhaps it was due to the depth of the claws kneading.

20. Meadow

Yoga in the meadows. It was a brilliant idea to have the activity held outdoors. While not a novice to yoga, Shreya was taking a beginner course. Some aspects of her life she wanted to start all over and while it wasn’t possible for all, yoga could be one of those.

Hair tied in a messy bun, the warmth of the sun on her brown skin, Shreya stepped up on a bright yellow mat. She took no notice of the people on either side of her.

The instructor started off with some poses which Shreya breezed through but it was on the classic Tree pose that she lost concentration when a memory of her latest ex flashed through her mind. She found herself tumbling to her left.

Shreya hadn’t braced herself to be expertly caught by incredibly strong arms. She found herself gazing up at a breathtaking face.

Said face was neutral, but those eyes were focused. "You good?"

“Yes,’’ Shreya breathed before adding stiffly, “Thank you. You can set me upright now.”

“You’re welcome,” he added. A moment later, she could see his eyes fixed on her. She smirked, knowing they won't forget each other after today.

Aria all but stumbled tiredly into her and Kel’s place, and was pleased to find that he was awake.

“Hi, husband! What are you up to? And why does it feel like an inferno in here?” she asked, depositing her handbag and portfolio on the kitchen counter.

“Hi, Aria. I hadn’t realised it was that hot.” Kel pointed to the oven. “Experiementing on a new dessert.”

“That’s okay, I got it covered.” Aria magically adjusted the temperature. “That’s so exciting! It explains why it smells heavenly in here. I detect a hint of vanilla.”

“Is that all you detect?” Kel asked innocently.

“Hmm.” Grinning, she slid onto one onto one of the seats at the counter. “No… there’s something starchy in the air… noodles!”

“Correct. I know you’d be hungry so here you go. One steaming bowl of noodles with all of the usual fixings.”

“You’re the best, thank you!” Aria had already grabbed a pair of chopsticks, ready to dig in. “Do I get to try your new dessert?” she asked, snapping them in a ‘threatening’ manner.

One of Kel's eyebrows rose. "But of course"

This was met by Aria’s giggling. “I know. I’m just messing with you.”

“WHAT?” Chayce yelled through his helmet and the wind whistling in his ears.

“SLOW DOWN!” Darrion shouted through his own helmet, this time almost deafening Chayce.

Laughing to himself, he deaccelerated the motorcycle easily. “You might want to release your hold on me. Any tighter and all my organs will be reduced to mush.”

He felt Darrion’s arms slacken though they remained firmly around his middle.

“Must you speed that much?”

“Why? Don’t you like it when your boyfriend morphs into a rogue speedemon?” Chayce asked over his shoulder. “I thought you liked speed.”

“I do. It’s just that it’s a lot more than usual, even for you.” Darrion asked, rolling his eyes.

“Aww, it’s sweet that you worry about our safety. It tells me that you want us to have a long life together.”

"Of course! Who else is going to be able to take care of Baby Blue if we're gone?" The smirk was obvious in his voice.

“Of course. Baby Blue is the most important of all.” The little kneazle-cat had grown on him even though Chayce would forever be violently allergic to furry creatures.

One of Pascal’s many great traits was the manner in which he cared for Nebula. Chiara, on her way to the kitchen, paused at Neb’s bedroom as she heard Pas’ voice. Only thing, it wasn’t exactly his - it was whatever character he was imitating from the book he was reading from. Chi could tell they were having a grand time from Neb’s giggles and Pas’ laughter.

“Care to join me for some tea?” the woman asked as Pascal finally emerged, having tucked Neb in.

“Were you spying on us?” Chi knew she was being teased by the jest in that warm voice.

“Possibly. You could be a Bard if you wanted with the way you expertly recited that story.” She hugged Pascal closely with their arms linked. She was teasing, naturally. As they descended the steps, Chi added, “I know you prefer to be Nebula’s personal Bard and I think she likes it that way.”

Chiara extracted her arm once they reached the kitchen so she could flit about making jasmine tea.

“I can be yours too.” Pas was being flirty.

Shim glared so hard at the wall opposite to where he sat, one would think that he was about to shoot lasers from his eyes to carve a hole in it. The chewing was getting to him but not as much as Kraetos’ presence was. Shim briefly closed his eyes, exhaled then picked up his spoon to continue having his lunch. Maybe tomorrow he’d eat somewhere else.

Or better yet, Kraetos would mysteriously vanish.

CrunchCrunchCRUNCH!!!

“Must you chew so loudly?” Shim snapped, unable to stop himself.

Kraetos continued crunching loudly. His head turned to face Shim perplexed, "Wuh?" his mouth full of cheetos, flakes of it poured out of his mouth.

“Listen here, Flaming Hot Cheetos -”

Kraetos blinked, swallowing before gasping. "Did you just call me hot?" He roared in laughter.

"Don't flatter yourself," Shim scoffed. "I'm asking you nicely to chew softly." Shim smiled sarcastically and looked pointedly at the name printed on the snack pack. He then turned back to his food.

"Uh huh, sure." Kraetos smirked, grabbing another fist full of cheetos. CRUNCH!!!

For Merlin’s sake! Clearly Kraetos was going to be a legendary pain to him for a long while.

Gift hunting for the ladies in his life always came naturally to him. Not that there had been many, just his mother until her death. And now his female siblings had a place in it. Shim supposed Krittika could be considered a sibling, given that Dio had married her.

“Necklaces, earrings…” Shim remarked as he and his brother scanned the vast display of jewellery. “Anything reminds you of her?” Because that was important: the gift must have the person’s name etched on it, and that wasn’t necessarily physically.

“Not really,’’ Dio replied, speaking as if this were the most challenging task ever. Usually there was no difficulty in choosing something for Kritti.

“Luckily, I’m here to solve all your problems,’’ Shim joked. He pointed to some charm bracelets. “Those have protective runes on them. Should help keep her and my nieces and nephews safe while she’s working.”

“You sold me at ‘protective runes’,’’ Dio said. He wanted nothing but for Kritti and the little ones she was carrying to be safe.

“Okay, so this one had Algiz, Eihwaz and Thurisaz. All protective in their own way.”

“And the runes are pink. Kritti loves pink.”
