Gryffin Prize

Front and center at one of the Great Hall’s corners stood a giant, see-through display box, resembling a tank. Except, within it was a mechanical crane, perfect for clawing plushies to one's desire. It's a giant prize grabber! Keeping in the spirit of Gryffindor, lion plushies, among other forms of felines (kneazles, panthers, jaguars, etc.), were available for one to select… provided you had the dexterity to claim at least one. Just simply approach the joystick and adjust it once the crane is activated. Aim it over the plush you wish to claim and press the button to lower the claw and grab it, but don't let go, and hope it reaches back for you to claim.

Every now and then, a soft pop could be heard, followed by the fizzle of red fireworks overhead. They formed the shape of a lion every few minutes amongst the other house mascots in various colours. Quite a sight to behold, if one wasn’t too focused on claiming their prize. No shoving, though, there's plenty to go around as you line up for your turn to claim a prize. Once you're done, you're more than welcome to step aside and admire the display above with your schoolmates in unity.

Bria had not known where to go first. Ravenclaw, on mascot alone, had her undivided attention for approximately five seconds before said attention snapped to Hufflepuff's vibrant floral display for an additional five seconds, only to then be captivated by Slytherin's and those super adorable little snakes and the promise of Charmswork...but ultimately it was her own house's station that she gravitated towards.

Giant prize grabber thingy filled with feline plushies?

Clocked.

Target acquired.

Say no more.

There was a very brief moment where she attempted to maintain a dignified, fourth-year level of composure as she approached, but that lasted all of three steps before the blonde took off at a sprint towards the sea of plush.

Lions, panthers, and kneazles...OH MY!

"Okay. Okay okay OKAY," she whispered to herself, arm flapping at her sides as though doing so would get her to come down from the little giddy high she was on. "You can do this, Bria. You GOT this. You have experience with this," she murmured, rolling her shoulders a bit. "Well. Not this specifically. But you have rescued small, delicate things under pressure before and needed to use other means than your hands to reach them and really that is basically the exact same skillset."

She stepped up to the controls with all the gravity of someone approaching not one but a whole herd of hippogriffs at once.

"Oooh...how to choose which one?!" she squealed softly.

There were so many that would make fantastic additions to the flock on her bed and, thankfully, they were all of the same color palette so they could all be besties right away. And then her bright blue eyes locked on the perfect little plushie companion. Hands flew to the joystick and she leaned in, tongue just barely poking out in concentration as she guided it left...
No no, too far...
right—no, back...
okay, steady... steaaaaaaady―

Paul wasn't sure what to do during this event. He wasn't all that social, to no one's surprise, but it wasn't like he didn't have some friends and his boyfriend. He just didn't feel comfortable that often, but while wallflowering, he could see them having such a good time. With a soft smile, he slipped away to get a better check on all the other sections. He stopped, though, at the prize grabber box.

Of course..

Idris would die seeing this. But he wanted to see his face when he emerged with a prize in his hand for them. A Kneazle or lion would be just the right thing to collect. So Paul stepped in line behind Bria, who was deeply concentrated with picking a prize. So he stayed quiet, practically joining in on her efforts to be rewarded.

Id had been having such a grand time on the dance floor that he hadn’t realised when Paully had slipped away. While busting out some more Funky Chicken moves, he had turned a full 360 degrees in an attempt to locate the boyfriend. Idris knew that he constantly didn’t have to be in his presence, but given Paul’s reserved personality, Id liked to remind him that he didn’t need to be truly alone. The Badger was eventually spotted at the Lion’s event which made Id super excited because it was a reminder of his earlier plan to secure a couple plushies.

Having decided that he had danced enough - and he hoped Dads E and D would be pleased with him getting a little cardio in - the sixth year bounded his way over to the Gryffindor area. He made sure not to announce his presence in an exuberant manner since, upon his approach, he recognised that Bria was putting a vast amount of concentration into acquiring her target. He sent her some silent positive vibes. You got this, Housemate! :first:

As for Paul… Id stepped up behind him and silently slid his hands lightly around his eyes.

Hi, boyfriend! :sprinklelove:

Here!
Here?
Heeeeeeeeere?
HERE!
Bria slammed her palm down on the button and he claw descended with all the promise in the world. The blonde leaned in, breath held, eyes wide and hopeful—
—and then it closed on absolutely nothing.
Up it came.

Empty.

She blinked once. Twice.

"…oh," she chirped softly, more puzzled than upset, tilting her head at the machine like it might explain itself if she looked at it from the right angle. The lion plush remained exactly where it had been, entirely unbothered. The claw had missed the plush, barely even brushing past the lion's soft, ovate little body. Her aim had been unfortunate, to put it gently. Which she supposed was a bit expected since she hardly had the bird's eye view she would have while rescuing creatures.

A tiny puff of air left her as she straightened. "Even birds miss the first time sometimes," she whispered to herself, entirely unaware of the audience she had kind-of-sort-of accumulated.

Her fingers returned to the joystick, light and careful, like she was adjusting a perch rather than operating a machine.

"Oh!" she suddenly peeped, glancing over her shoulder as something finally registered. Two others waiting. Oh. "Oh no, I didn’t even look—hello! I'm so sorry, was I hogging?" she asked, a little sheepish but still bright. "Are you both after a stuffie in this exact cluster too?" She hadn't actually paid attention to the entirety of the machine, but assumed there were more joystick scattered about since just one for the whole would be a bit… mm… bottleneck-y? "This does seem like a very good plushie cluster."

Her attention flickered between them and the machine, torn for all of half a second before settling back in place.

"I'll be quick, promise," she added, faintly apologetic for maybe not following acceptable protocol. "Second tries are usually better. You learn the… swoop trajectory. If I miss again I'll relinquish my position! Mae tegell yn ferwi and ty'n barod!"

Only there was no kettle whistling nearby...but she did enjoy that expression a fair bit. Nain would always use it right before she started gardening.

"Okay," she murmured, almost like a quiet coo to herself as she moved the claw into what was hopefully a better position, "let's do this..."

Her palm pressed on the button, significantly calmer this time, and the claw descended again.

Bria leaned forward almost enough for her nose to touch the glass with eyes following it down with hopeful, bird-bright focus.

Paul was patiently waiting, he didn't mind the length it would take. But he supposed he could've calculated the time it took for Idris to notice his disappearance when the world just as easily disappeared.

"Oh, you found me." He said. Waiting until Idris' hands were lowered before he turned to see. "I figured I'd surprise you with a prize while you caught up with the others." Not that he was discouraging being followed.

"But... I wasn't sure if you'd prefer the lion or kneazle." Seeing how Idris was fully concentrating until she noticed them waiting. "No, it's okay. Take your time." They had plenty of time before the Headmaster addressed them, right?

Then Paully’s calculations, if he had done them, would have told him that Id would have noticed his absence VERY soon. It wasn’t like the Gryffindor kept track of the Hufflepuff; it was more due to the fact that Paul’s presence was one that was significantly loud in his life. So obviously the absence would be felt. “I did!” he remarked brightly, doing a slight wiggle. Clearly he was still bubbling with extra energy from the dancing. Maybe that was why everything felt incalescent. The sixth year should grab a beverage to cool off soon.

But forget about that!

Id’s face lit up like a thousand suns. “You were?!” :bustshy: “You’re the sweetest!” The guy resisted planting a kiss on Paul’s cheek because there was no need to make him feel uncomfortable with the PDA. “I’ll love whatever you get me! And I’ll keep it until we’re wrinkly and grey!”

Woops! Id hoped they had distracted Bria with the conversation. He shot her an apologetic look just in case, along with some enthusiastic head bobbing in agreement with Paul’s reassurance. “Good luck, Bria!’’ And he fell silent, shifting from foot to foot in anticipation of her result of her next try with the crane.
