What Doesn't Kill You, Makes You Stronger - Sa13+

I do not claim to own the wizarding world of Harry Potter. J.K. Rowling is the brilliant creater of that. I only own the plot and the character.

What Doesn't Kill You, Makes you Stronger

Chapter 1:

Ellie Hilder had her ash black hair scraped back into a tight ponytail and was waiting impatiently for the kettle to boil. Really. What was the point of waiting for a kettle to boil when you could use magic? But apparently, there isn't a spell for that. Ellie had her mug ready, the tea bag hanging onto the edge of the white cup, and the milk was out and the two spoons – never one more, never one less – of sugar was sitting at the bottom of the mug. A high pitched whistle and steam curled up from the spout of the kettle.

Ellie jumped up and poured. She poured some milk in and put it back in the silver fridge. She sipped her drink. And she walked around the modern apartment and stopped to look at herself in the mirror. She never thought she was gorgeous but she knew she was a bit pretty. Ellie's family was Asian but had moved to England before Ellie was born. She had hazelnut shaped eyes and melted chocolate-coloured irises.

Ellie moved away and finished her tea. It was queit. Too quiet. Then suddenly music killed that. The volume was so loud that the mirror shook. It took a moment – well more, because Ellie dropped her mug of boiling hot tea, spilling it all over herself and now, there was a shattered mug on the floor – for Ellie's ear to adjust and figure out what song was bursting her ear drums. 'What the Hell' by Avril Lavigne.

Ellie loved that song, but really – it was so LOUD, she walked (around the shattered mug) to her best friend/roomate's room and hammered on the door. No answer. The girl inside probably didn't hear. She flung open the door and stormed in. Brianna Tempten was dancing around the room, holding to outfits infront of her and looking at herself in the mirror. It took her a while to realize that Ellie was in the room. “TURN. IT. OFF. NOOOOWW!” Ellie boomed shoving her fingers into her ears. Brianna turned off her stereo and gave an innocent look in Ellie's direction.

Ellie knew she was nothing compared to Brianna. Brianna had shoulder length blond hair and bright blue eyes. Her lips were almost like they were scuplted or something they were so perfect. It was like she was a vamp (it still was there era of vampires now). And a super gorgeous vamp at that.

“Why are you running around your room, looking at different outfits like a...” Ellie struggled for a word. “Whatever, but why?” Brianna took Ellie by her hands and spun her round the room. “I got my letter!” Ellie gasped and hugged her friend.

Now adays, since wizarding population has dropped awfully because of the Legendary Battle of Harry Potter and You-Know-Who ten years ago, the Minsitry has been match making. After you turn seventeen, you get a letter. A picture and bio of your future spouse and when you'll meet them. You don't have to marry them right away, but after a month, you have to move in with them (but of a bummer in Ellie's opinion, you barely know the person!).

Brianna looked ready to burst into tears. Ellie didn't know if she was happy or sad. She quickly caught the oppurtunity to stop the tears. “You were picking out the outfit you'll wear for the meeting, right?” Nod. “Is he good-looking?” Another nod. “Brianna, you okay?” Brianna couldn't stop the tears. She sobbed into her friend's chest. “Bri? What's up?” Her only answer was a friend shaking so hard with sobs that her hair was going all whack.

“I don't wanna leave you, Ellie.” Brianna looked up and whiped her eyes. “Heeey. Don't worry, okay? I'll visit whenever I can and we'll see eachother at work.” Brianna nodded and sighed, then grinned. “Now, let me show you the hunk I'm going to marry!” she squealed.

TWO DAYS LATER!

Ellie was waiting at the apartment's window for her mail. Brianna was still asleep – she had met her guy the night before and returned at 4 a.m. Ellie was practically jittery waiting for the details. She pulled out her wand and made a couple of ice blue butterflies.

Then, a black dot came flying towards her and she flung open the window. The owl zoomed in and dropped two letters with the Ministry stamp on it. He landed on the window sill and pecked her. “You're only getting food if one of these is my pay check!” She opened the heavier one. Yup, pay check. She grinned and gave the owl the popcorn kettles from the popcorn she had been pigging out on the night before waiting for Brianna.

The owl ate them and flew off. Ellie finished off the apple juice in her glass. She put the glass down and opened the second letter. OHMYMERLIN. It was THE letter. Ellie grinned in excitement and then it faded. She picked up her glass and then flung it across the room. It broke. Ellie liked that sound. Then she stared at the name again.

Adam Leroy.

She knew him.

And she hated him.

And she would meet him in three days. In the Leaky Cauldron.

*stares at the screen and then stares some more*

That left me rather speechless, it was amaaaazing, really, honestly, truly. I loved every single word of it.

It was really amusing about the whole tea concept, I wish tea boiled faster as well, and how she always had it the same, awesomeeeeeee! My tea is never the same, it makes me feel unorganized.

What The Hell by Avril Lavigne is a veeeeery cool song, I like it very much so, and the fact that her best friend was playing it loudly amuses me, music played loudly is quite fun to listen to.

And the whole idea of arranged marriage, hmmmmmm, it makes me, hmm a lot I guess, I like those ideas somewhat (not for actual life though) I hope that Brianna is happy with her guy, hehe, everyone deserves to be happy.

And, and, and, telling the owl that it didn't get food unless one of the letters/notes was her pay-check, Ellie makes me laugh, such an amusing character. (I'm glad the owl get's fed, but then again, after the next letter, maybe it won't be fed, hehe)

Adam Leroy, hmmmmm, me likes that name very much so. And the fact that she hates him, brilliant! Simply brilliant, (well not exactly simply, but whatever). I wonder what will happen, it's such a, horrid but awesome ending that leaves us all in suspense, if that is the right word. I can hardly wait for her to meet him at the Leaky Cauldron, their meeting will definitely be priceless.

All in all, I enjoyed reading the chapter very much and somewhat impatiently (I'm in impatient person) and somewhat patiently await for the next one (peeeeople, comment please?) I also like the banner (is it just me or is the person used for Ellie, Brenda Song?) Great job with everything!

Love, Gabbeh :glomp:

Chapter 2:
Ellie glared at the gorgeous dress her (RICH) cousin sent over when she heard that Ellie got her letter. It was simple but stunning. It was strapless and short. It hugged her body and had a little bit of diamonte on it that you didn't really notice till the light was angled perfectly to catch off of. She would love to wear it. But for anyone other than Adam Leroy. “Oi! Elle!” Brianna's nickname for her. “I've got the best idea ever! Ya wanna make an impression right? But when it comes to Agit Leroy,” She had been calling him that since forever. “ya wanna make a bad one...”

**

Adam Leroy fixed his tie and brushed down his suit. He had been seriously thinking about a tux but his sister Blair had laughed at his face when he asked her about it. The tie, a dark, midnight blue, tangled up in a knot and he gave a frustrated sigh and tugged it off over his head.

He sighed and walked into his fireplace and before shouting 'The Leaky Cauldron' he glanced at the picture of Ellie Hilder and sighed. She was the girl he was going to marry. And he was going to meet her in five minutes. He had taken atleast three relaxing potions today he was so nervous.

The Leaky Cauldron smelled of stale beer and was hot. Very, very hot. Adam pushed his way through the crowd and shouted over the noise at the bar man. A girl sitting on the stool nearest to him eyed him and smirked. “Heya Hun.” Adam quirked an eyebrow and waved with an awkward smile. “Uhm hi.” “You a single or am I just waiting to get your bio?” The girl had straight, long dark hair and had dark, dark eyes and big full lips. Lately, since the new ministry rule, flirting tended not to stray away from it. Adam gave her a smile and said, “Got my letter. Sorry.” The bar man lead him away from the girl and into a private room with but three tables – all of them full.

On one table there was a gorgeous, Asian girl with her hair in a messy, ugly knot. She was wearing a baggy, pink, old tracksuit that was about three sizes to big on her and hung off her frame so he didn't even get the tiniest glimpse of her figure. He blinked. Why the heck was she wearing that? Adam suddenly felt VERY over dressed.

He sat down across from her. “Hi. You must be Ellie right?” The girl infront of him was going to marry him. He gave her his smexiest, lopsided grin. “Yeah.” she snapped and gave him an ugly look. He blinked. “Oookay. Uhm, well I'm Adam Leroy but you know that from my bio. I have an internship with the Daily Prophet. You?” Ellie narrowed her eyes and shook her head in disgust. “You don't remember me, do you?” Adam frowned at her. “I think I'd reconise a face like yours.” He gave her a shy but flirty smile. Ellie made a disgusted noise.

'Of course he wouldn't!' She thought savagely. 'So like the git.' Ellie plucked up her menu and scanned over it. She waved over the waitor. “Anything I can get you?” Everything was a bit pricy for someone who only worked in the café in St. Mungo's, but the Ministry always gave the future spouses their first date free soo. “I'll have the Spagetti with a side order of chips – and I want them chunky. Not the little sliver of a thing bars and stuff have, okay? ...And Elderflower Wine.” “Two glasses?” “Yes.” Adam said with a nod. “And can I have the Steak and Kidney pie?” The waiter nodded and took their menus and disappeared.

“Soo, Ellie, should I know you?” Adam asked as the waiter filled their glasses with Elderflower Wine. When the waiter left, Ellie glared at him. “Let me give you a hint. Sophie Long.” Adam paled and big dark circles formed around his eyes as though he had not slept in ages.

Now he reconsied her. “Ellie Hilder.” He said hoarsly, his head feeling suddenly light. “Are you still intouch with Brianna Tempten?” he whispered, looking down at his lap. Ellie said nothing but gave him a curt nod. “Please believe me when I say I'm sorry and wish it never happened.” Ellie shook her head. So this was why she was giving him so much grief.

Ellie bit down on her lip, hard. Boiling hot tears were threatning to boil over and slide down her cheeks. It was always a painful subject when it came to Sophie. “I didn't have anything to do with it.” Ellie sighed and shook her head again, but this time out of disappointment. “You didn't do anything to stop them though, did you?”

Adam opened his mouth to say something but nothing came out. Ellie pushed back her chair and stood up. “You know what? This is too painful. I'm leaving. See ya.” She pulled on her coat and turned away from him. “WAIT! We were MATCHED!” Adam shouted after her. “TOO BAD I HATE YOU-UH!” Her voice broke at the end of the sentence and Adam knew she was crying. He ran his hands through his hair and sighed as the waitor brought over their dinners. “Uh...You know since the young lady is no longer here, it doesn't count as a date so you have to pay...”

Ellie stopped at the Graveyard with a bunch of white roses – Sophie's favourite – she walked down rows and rows of cold stone that marked the graves. She finally came across her best friend's grave. She rested the flowers down where Sophie's chest would be. Ellie couldn't stop the floods of tears as she curled up by the Gravestone, hugging herself.
