The Spiny Serpent The vases out front are only a hint of what you’ll find inside the Spiny Serpent. As you pass through the doorway a buzzer that howls like a banshee goes off, announcing your presence to the shopkeeper and the denizens of The Spiny Serpent. The store is split between flora and fauna; sentient plants, magical plants, dangerous plants, semi-illegal plants, can all be found here. Likewise any dangerous or dark creature you have a hankering for can be found within the walls of the shop.ooc: Remember that Snitchseeker site rules and the Diagon Alley rules apply at all times. She was going to have to kill her parents if she made another trip to Knockturn Alley, but Paris just wasn't going to tell them what she was going. The tiny witch's heels clanked on the cobblestone and she moved with a purpose down the street heading to toward the plant shop. She was carrying a purse almost too big for the 4 ft 7 inch woman, but it was serving a purpose today. The hood of her cloak slipped down her head to reveal her newly dyed hair. Platinum blonde, hardly a color one would forget, thus Paris wearing her hood up. She shoved her hood back up over her head and hurried into the plant store. Her experiments with plant venoms was going faster than she thought it and she needed a new supply. She pushed open the door and nearly crawled out of her skin at the sound. "Bloody dark wizards," she muttered. They were more dramatic than a pack of 15 year old girls. Once the sound died away she walked through the shop browsing the different plants on display. |
Jack wondered into the shop, imagining all of his past memories of being back at school. "oh i remember my first ever herbology lesson, with all the wondrous carnivorous plants and the venomous tentacula with all it's teeth" Jack thought to himself. He walked a little way into the shop and noticed a peculiar plant he had never seen before. He leant over to look at it and instantly it disappeared out of view. He pondered for a minute and wondered whatever it could have been. After roaming around for a while around the spectacular shop he decided that today wan't a good day for a purchase and so left the shop wondering where he should go next. |

"Side effect of WHAT?" Wes spat, pushing his way into the nearly empty Spiny Serpent shop. He stormed down an aisle at random, trying to remember what he was looking for. |
Quote:
"Of the Wolfsbane Potion." Obviously. "... Franklin." |
Quote:
No, it wasn't a side effect, because obviously he hadn't taken it yet. |

He got a few in, but Van just rolled with it, having expected precisely this reaction and of course Wes wasn't exactly in control of himself and so he was sloppy. The only real difficulty was his knee, but Van just grit his teeth and stoically bear the discomfort as he kept moving and avoiding most of Wes's attempts at hitting him. "Stop trying to hit me and hit me." |
Quote:
The back of his head hit the cold earth and the shock of falling seemed to wake him up a bit. He remained lying there instead of attempting to get up as he tried to grasp everything that had happened today, including the fact that he had just tried to punch his best friend and boss. A string of curses, many directed at himself, followed. Still from the floor. |
Quote:
Yeah. Get up. C'mon, bud. |
Quote:
"Sorry." |
Quote:
"Explain." |
Quote:
......"Or are you talking about the smell? Because I don't really remember." Wes looked back up at Van and gave a lame shrug. |
Quote:
And.... well, he was pretty sure that Wes had in fact got the wrong end of the stick with this 'ending it' business. That wasn't something that had come up when he'd talked to Izzy. "Start with Sabel." He suggested. |
Quote:
"The kid," he started, clearly still upset from the way his mouth twisted the words, "threatened me when I told him his idol wasn't dead. So I responded to the threat appropriately, as a senior hit wizard and head of the MLES would." No big deal, just business as usual in Wesley's eyes. However.... "I'll admit, it....caught the attention of the rest of the office, including Isobel." Wes turned away and drifted down the aisle a bit. He wasn't sure how to explain the rest of the...............day. |
Quote:
"He needs to learn respect and," And here Van paused pointedly, "How to keep his anger in check. I'm aware of the issue." He was. And he'd talked to Izzy about that. "Iz knows what needs to be done." He paused and then added in a wry tone, "You know how Aurors are." There was a reason Van had switched out of Auror training and gone headlong into undercover work as a Hit Wizard. |
Quote:
"Yeah, I do know how Aurors are," Wes went back to grunting as he started picking up the few ingredients he needed from this aisle. He finished and backtracked up the aisle, bypassing Van on his way to the next one. "Doesn't mean I have to like it. It's an excuse they throw around far too often, to be frank." Frank. Not Franklin. |
Quote:
..lin. "I don't either." Van was a stickler for respect, but he couldn't do much if nobody bothered to TELL him what was going on. He had some inkling of course, and ways and means of keeping tabs on his employees, but he also wanted to give Izzy a chance to step up and demand the respect she deserved. "Things aren't what they used to be." His own training had been far less... soft. Nobody cared about wee baby feelings getting hurt. It was harden up or get you gone. "As for Isobel..." Van waited for Wes to fill in the gaps. |
Quote:
"That goes without saying." Hmmph. Wes was starting to feel as grumpy and old as Damien, and that was saying something. That, or the physical and mental stress he'd put himself through today was finally starting to show. As for Isobel..... Wes felt his heart skip a beat as he halted in place, leaning against a display of fluxweed without realizing it. "What about her? She made her feelings clear: The job means more to her than I do." So. What was he supposed to do about that? Keep chasing something that wasn't his? None of it made sense to him right now. |
Quote:
"Alright Mr. Grumpy-pants." Van eyed his friend and shook his head slightly. "So what are we going to do about it? Complain? Or get them up to standard?" Evander had done the best with what he had, but now that the Cult presence was gone, he could focus on the basics. "..." He surveyed his friend. "The job means more to me than anything else." Van pointed out. "Are you going to cry about that too? You're the one trying to make her choose, it can go both ways." and he wondered a bit if Izzy's feelings on putting her career first had anything to do with his influence. After all, once upon a time, he'd chosen the job over her. "Iz isn't trying to drop you. That is all on you, mate." And he was being unreasonable for obvious reasons. "Now, about your potions." |
Quote:
No matter. "Complaining gets us nowhere..." Wes sighed in response. Yeah yeah, we got the message. He shot Van a glare at his next comment and shook his head. Franklin Wesley Logan Ferguson NEVER cried. Ever. Except maybe that one time when his wife had died.... but no one could possibly know about that.... "If the shoe were on the other foot, if it was up to ME to choose between HER and work?" He gave his friend a look. "You know which I would choose." He had chosen women over work in the past, and that side of him had never changed. It probably never WOULD change; that was just who he was. About the potions. "What about them?" Wes shrugged. "I'm a few ingredients short, and the full moon's tomorrow...." |
Quote:
Like a Ravenclaw or something. And he'd rather his mate be glaring than crying. At least the man had seemingly snapped out of the funk he'd been in. Really, this wasn't even that BIG of a situation. They were both acting like sulky teenages, Wes and Izzy both. "And if you really love her, you should respect her priorities and trust that she loves you regardless of how she sets them for herself. It isn't fair to hold it against her, or to storm off and sulk and make her worry." Really, in Van's opinion, it was the reverse of how it should be. And he KNEW the full moon was tomorrow, and that was likely effecting the man. He wasn't always so unsteady. The YATI were less emotional than these two. "First of all, you know the Ministry keeps an emergency supply." Van was brusque, "And you should also have guessed by now that I will bloody well do what I can to help you, you need only say so. Lets tackle THAT first and then you need to go and talk to Isobel and tell her you're an idiot." |
Quote:
So he should just trust her, should he? "I don't know....I...I...." Wes shook his head again, looking down at his shoes. "I don't know if I can just trust like that. I don't know if I can afford to do that....again." He scuffed one shoe like an admonished child. Even IF Evander was right, it was going to be difficult for Wesley to admit it. He missed Isobel already, and knew that if he held any hope of going back to work any time soon, he was going to have to apologize to her. Soon. "Right. All right." Wesley nodded brusquely and moved down the aisle. "I need.... well, here." He passed his list to the other man. |
Quote:
"Thirteen doesn't last long." Van answered, waving his hand dismissively. He knew Lily was of two minds about Brysen growing up, she wanted him to be her baby forever. A bit of a ridiculous notion, but he loved her anyway. "Try." Van answered succinctly. "I'm more worried about her than I am about you, y'big lug." Izzy hadn't had it easy and he knew that he played his own part in that. They'd been young, and while things were alright now, history was history and it mattered. Van took the list, glanced over it and then got to work looking. |
Quote:
He was worried about Iz? "You're worried about her?!" Wes blurted, his face crinkling up with concern again. "Why? Wh--what did she say, earlier? Was she upset? Merlin.... did she.... did she cry???" Now he felt really bad. He felt low, low down like a... dog. Like a.... well he didn't need to go there, so..... Wes just shuffled after Van, looking absolutely miserable as they went on the hunt for potions ingredients. |
Quote:
Yeah yeah. Funny. "Of course I am." Evander answered quietly, turning slightly to glance at Wes. "She's upset, she's worried about you. I never did like to see her cry." Why the hell else did Wes think Van was HERE? Really? "She hardly needs another heartbreak, Wes." |
