The entrance to the Prophet's Headquarters is sleek and professional without seeming presumptuous. The building's name overhead the desk assures you that, yes, you are in the right place. Separating the Conference room into its own place are glass walls. Past that and down the corridor are the offices, writer's working space and other rooms.

As you approach the front desk, you see your own reflection on the dark shiny surface of it. It's sleek form fits in well with the Head quarter's entrance. The warm smile of the Prophet's secretary though, washes away whatever sense of intimidation the place could give. If you need anything, don't hesitate to let the receptionist know. And if you find yourself having to wait, the chairs in the waiting area are comfortable and there's even a small little table. Hopefully, you won't be kept waiting too long as there's neither food nor nourishment at your disposal.

The telltale sound of an expensive pair of heels preceded Anastasia Truebridge's arrival to the offices of the Daily Prophet, where she appeared to fit right in amongst the smooth architecture and sleek design. She swept a bit of red hair behind one ear and stepped up to the counter, where she informed the secretary that she was waiting for a friend.

Then she made her way over to one of the chairs and carefully sat down, crossing her feet at the ankles and picking up a crisp copy of the latest Evening Prophet. Hmm, nothing about her....yet.... excellent!

Sylvester almost chewed the receptionists head off when she came to get him, informing him that someone was apparently waiting for him in the reception area. The stupid girl hadn't even taken a NAME! For all he knew he was coming to speak to the the Japanese ambassador of wizarding lasagne... or something.

Idiot.

Although, as he entered the reception area, his mood lifted considerably when he saw who it was that had come to pay him a visit. "ANNIE!?" he practically screamed across the room, a smile broadening on his face. "What the heck!? You never said you were visiting!" he rushed over to his old classmate, arms wide open ready for a hug. It was obvious Sylvester liked this woman, because he usually hugged NO one.

Annie looked up upon hearing the sound of her name well, shouted, across a public room (how improper!) but actually found herself smiling as she noted who the shouter was. Good, so he DID work here.

"Syllllllllllieeeee," she called out just as happily, rising to go give the man a hug and kiss. On the cheek, thank you. "How ARE you? I felt like surprising someone today, since I have to be in the Alley anyway."

The smelly, filthy alley full of school children... yes, that Diagon Alley.

Syllie? Wow, it had been so long since he had heard that said aloud. In fact the only time anyone called him Syllie anymore was when people wrote in for his 'Dear Syllie' agony aunt column. He had used 'Syllie' as it sounded more soft and compassionate than Sylvester and was, in fact, inspired by the very woman standing in front of him right now.

He embraced her tightly, accepting her kiss on the cheek. Yes, the cheek. Damn Ethan Truebridge. Ahem. "I am as good as one can be when having to constantly work with imbeciles," he laughed, "But my day has just gotten ten times better now that i've had this wonderful surprise."

"Are you alone?" he asked, just curious of course. "What do you need so desperately that you had to come all the way back to Britain to get it? I could've owled it to you if it would have saved you the trouble"

He turned to the receptionist once more and snapped his fingers at her, putting her on alert immediately. "Do you want some coffee, Annie? Tea perhaps?"

Hahaha oh, Syllie. So silly. He sounded the same as he always had, insulting people in one breath and complimenting her in the next. Of course Annie deserved the compliment, but that went without saying.

"I suppose the 'working with imbeciles' bit is something we have in common," she laughed lightly. "And yes, I am alone, for now. I came all the way back to Britain to share some news with you, friend, since you work at a newspaper, after all."

The redhead paused as the secretary's attention was directed their way, and nodded toward the woman. "Tea, please, with honey."

"Oh really? Well at least you had the wonderful pyramids to look out upon and visit as an escape to your particular breed of imbeciles," if anyone could deal with idiots, it was Anastasia Bunbury, "You look as brilliant as ever, though."

"News?" Sylvester repeated, sitting up straight, more attentive than he had been. He really was a true journalist. "What sort of news are we talking here Annie? Have you managed to uncover some incredible Herbology findings at that university of yours?"

Sylvester saw the look of horror on the receptionists face as Annie placed her order. He assumed she was panicking because the Prophet wasn't exactly the kind of place that had honey stored in it's cupboards, but Sylvester merely responded, "You are a witch. Work it out. And I'll have my usual, thanks."

See? He said thanks. That was nice of him.

"This is true," Annie acknowledged with a thoughtful tilt of her head. Mostly she meant the bit about looking 'brilliant' but she would take the pyramids as well. "I will miss the shopping in Cairo most of all, I must admit." Her hand went to the little green brooch she was wearing at the moment, as it was a rather rare find from one of her last shopping trips in Egypt. "There are some steals in those open-air markets, you know... and thank you, Syllie, you don't look so bad yourself." Wink.

But ah, back to the news. "Well, as I was saying," the redhead leaned out of her chair and toward her companion some, "I'm back in England for... hmm, for what I hope will be a long time. I've accepted a job in the area and it's not just any job, Sylvester, it's the opportunity of a lifetime." She took a little breath and allowed a self-satisfied smile to grace her lips. "I'm going to be taking over Hogwarts this year, as Headmistress."

Headmistress Truebridge. Now didn't that sound nice? It sounded even better than having her research published. Which still hadn't happened, by the way, but she had much more influence and connections now, so...

"Your usual," she raised a brow but didn't bother looking over her shoulder toward the secretary. "Tell me you're not having a cocktail at this hour." But she would laugh if he was.

"I'm pleased to see that your habits, haven't changed one bit," he chuckled, remembering the woman's obsession for all things fashion. "It's kind of you to return the compliment, but it has been a rather... er difficult few years, needless to say, so I'm not exactly my best." He accepted her wink with a smile.

Back. In. England? Really? This was wonderful news. Sylvester had been about ready to jump out of his seat once more and hug her again. However, when she made mention of being Headmistress at Hogwarts, that stopped him in his tracks.

Hogwarts. Eugh.

Had it not been Hogwarts that had initially hindered the amount of time they got to spend together, what with Annie having to teach Herbology for the majority of the year? And had it not been Hogwarts that introduced Annie to Ethan in the first place? Grrr.

He did not let on his true thoughts on the matter, however. It did not do well to cause tension between him and Annie. Sylvester still regarded her as one of his closest friends, and refused to let his personal feelings get in the way and destroy that.

"You're right, Annie! That IS a once in a lifetime opportunity," he said with as much glee as he could muster without it coming across as fake. "You did SO well when you were Herbology Professor all those years ago! You definitely deserve the job!" He held open his arms to give her a congratulatory hug.

"You ARE right, though. This is definitely newsworthy. I'm sure my... editor-in-chief," he said through gritted teeth, "Will be pleased to hear about this."

He laughed at her mention of cocktails and raised a finger to his lips, shhh'ing her through stifles of giggles. "I've gotten away with murder in here ever since the refurb, you wouldn't even believe me if I told you, but I have yet to convince them to allow cocktails during working hours."

It was then that the receptionist returned with their drinks. Sylvester took his, giving a short curt smile as thanks and returned his attention back to Annie. "The school's been facing a lot of trouble lately. Students and Professors freezing as a result of a time stealing hag and all other forms of milarcy. You're going to have your hands full. We suspect that Tate's early retirement was rather... convenient after all that had occurred this term."

Annie smiled, but was much more interested in the difficulties her friend had had... and was being deliberately vague about. "It seems we have more catching up to do than even I had realized," she mused. "You must tell me more about the life of a Rook, perhaps over lunch one day." There was no rule that said the Headmistress had to be at Hogwarts 24/7, was there? Not in her book.

And really, Annie's book was the only one that counted. So. Yes, he was happy for her? GOOD. The redhead had always suspected some sort of... unrequited feelings on the end of her friend but had never once made a move toward him in that direction. Regardless, she did give him one more hug--- but only one, because one does not simply hug a Bunz--- before returning to her chair once more.

"Who's the editor-in-chief?" was her next question, naturally, just as her tea arrived. She took it without sparing the ~~house elf~~ secretary so much as a glance, and sipped it. Good, it was just right. "Murder, you say? Did you murder your boss already?"

Somehow, that was something Anastasia would laugh at, so she did. Laughing at her own joke. Wasn't she funny?

"I've heard things, mmhmm," she dropped her voice and cradled her teacup in one hand, "but at least I have the Board of Governors on my side." That was more than her predecessor could say. "Tell me, why did Tate quit? What do you know?" She was still unclear on that.

Sylvester smiled softly at Annie's obvious concern, "You're up to date with everything, really. It's just... well," Sylvester was struggling even to say the word. Squib. It was horrid. Why did his son have to do this to him? "Well, Terri was supposed to be starting at Hogwarts this term - I'm sure he'd have loved his Auntie Bun.. I mean, Truebridge, as Headmistress - but it seems... well, let us just say he won't be attending any schools of a magical nature anytime soon."

There he said it. In a roundabout fashion, sure, but he still admitted to it. His son was a failure. As was Sylvester. It was his genetics after all.

"Layla. Dacosta." he practically spat as he mentioned his boss' name, after finishing laughing at Annie's murdering joke (although, how he wished!). "She's a right little witch and has even tried to fire me!" he said in a disapproving tone. His face turned from an expression of anger to that of cunning as he whispered, so that the receptionist didn't over here, "But I made sure to do some digging on her... and let us just say, she won't be firing me anytime soon." He winked at his friend as he took a sip of his coffee, a wry smile playing at his lips.

"That's a plus," Sylvester nodded, pleased that Annie wasn't going into this blind. "Well," he gave off a small sigh, "Dacosta has interns writing bloody news, believe it or not, and one of them was given the task of interviewing ole' Tate, BUT she kind of beat about the bush and asked nice, conservative questions instead of trying to get the real dirt. He says he wants to pay more attention to his family, but I call dragon dung on that one." Scoffing, he took another sip of his coffee.

Well? WELL....? Annie nearly fell out of her chair, as she had scooted to the edge. This gossip was going to be juicy, she could just tell. And it was; his son was of the school age, this she knew, but he was.... not a wizard.

This she had not known. "Awwww," the redhead frowned, actually setting her teacup to the side and reaching out a comforting hand toward her friend, "well, it does happen, Syllie, don't feel... horrible about it." He should feel bad, yes, for having a Squib child, but really, it couldn't be helped. "I'm sure it's all his mother's fault." Or the lack thereof. Yes, surely, surely one of her oldest friends wasn't to blame for having a fail!child!

Annie wouldn't know what it was like to have such an offspring, as her son was perfect in every possible way. Obviously.

"Layla Dacosta?" she laughed again, hoping this was a lighter subject. "Who is that?" A nobody if she hadn't heard of her. "I'm glad you have some dirt," she also lowered her voice, "because how else would you work your way up? I mean, you are clearly more deserving of the Editor position than she is." Rook wasn't a nobody like Dacosta, for one thing.

Anastasia leaned back into her chair, picking up her tea for another sip. "Mmmm. Interns. I thought their hands were supposed to be busy pouring coffee, not writing stories." Scoff. This editor person was sounding worse by the minute. "I call dung too. Be sure you grab any stories about Hogwarts before that intern does, Syllie," Annie gave him a pointed look, "especially ones that deal with the school leadership."

Hem hem.

Annie's comforting touch helped him relieve some tension, but the topic was still too much for Sylvester to ponder on for long. A small smile appeared at his lips as she full out blamed the mother, "Well, Mackenzie was always a weak soul. I don't even know how she ever became a certified Healer considering she used to barf at the smallest sight of blood. Do you remember?"

Mackenzie. Sigh. Sylvester had expressed a variety of colourful adjectives about that particular woman.

"Who is that? Exactly. I hadn't heard of her either until she barged in here acting like she had a broom stuck up her backside," Sylvester grumbled, "She's a media liaison for the Ministry."

Sylvester grinned at the callousness of them both. He really had missed being able to talk to someone like this. "Yes, well, maybe one day. I would have went for the bloody editor's position had I known it was up for grabs, but the Ministry swooped in and placed one of their puppets in charge. No doubt so that they can have their disgusting fingers in as many pies as possible."

His finger played around the rim of his mug as Annie talked of interns. "Not only that, they don't even make coffee that well," he sneered.

"I'm sure I can talk that over with Dacosta," he said as conversation shifted topic once more, "If she was made aware of the connections I had with the new Headmistress of the most prestigious magical education facility in Britain, I'm sure she'll be more than happy to allow me precedence over Hogwarts news. I imagine you will help this Rook out and divulge reportable information to me?"

Did she remember Healer school and the people from it? No, not really, not at all. Annie always tried her best to not think on that failed future of hers. But, for Sylvester's sake, she smiled politely and bobbed her head. "Mmmhmm." Whatever you say, friend. "She was weak. Like my brother. Don't know how he," more like it, "ever became a Healer either."

Much less a successful one.

"A media liaison? Well that just explains it all." Annie allowed a loud snort to escape from beneath the rim of her teacup. "She's a puppet, she is." Oh how she had missed hers and Syllie's conversations. "Nothing but another bloody Greingoth-lover, I bet." He said jump, and this... Dacosta likely said how high, sir.

She smirked as the topic moved back to her ~~which was where it should be at all times, obviously~~ and nodded slowly. "Only the best for the best, as I say. You know you have a reliable source in me." That's what friends were for, after all. ~~Gossip.~~ News.

Sylvester couldn't help but feel some tension at the mention of their Healer training. It had slipped his mind momentarily that Annie had actually failed her training and he immediately felt bad for even bringing it up. Should he apologise or just pretend that they hadn't even spoke of it? Probably the latter, right? Women just liked to ignore things? Sure.

"Precisely," he said with determined agreement. "It must be nice to be in such a position that things are just handed to you for sheer convenience of those in power. Let us not even consider someone who might actually be good at the job itself." Could anyone tell Sylvester was bitter about this? "Greingoths," he scoffed, "Give me Borr in charge any day." The man was a complete nutter, but he at least gave Sylvester good stories to write about.

Sylvester smiled, evidently pleased, "I am glad to hear that. Although, of course, I hope there won't be much in the way of things to report in regards to Hogwarts. We want your first term as Headmistress to be a quiet one, after all. Although, knowing the damned school's reputation that'll be unlikely... You had been there for the Merpeople attack, right? It seems as if the place is cursed."

It was then that a thought popped into his head, "What are Ethan and the little one doing? If you haven't found convenient accommodations, I would be happy to offer you all a small house I own up in Hogsmeade. Well, rather, it was my Grans who left it to me when she passed. It just gathers dust, really, and I've never gotten round to selling it."

Were they done with the topic of Healers and the like? Yes? Good, because Annie hated any reminders of not being absolutely perfect, which was what she was all 99.9% of the time.

"And that is the way of the Ministry," the redhead agreed, with a sigh and wave of the hand. "I'll pass on Borr," she squirmed in her chair slightly, remembering that she did still have his cane, "but surely there is a better leader somewhere in the Ministry, is there not? Somewhere? On some level?"

Merlin, even Vindictus' brother would make a better Minister.

"I hope so too," she smiled back at him sweetly. Such a sweetie, that Syllie, when he wanted to be. And even when he didn't want to be, Annie still appreciated her friend. "Oh I was there for that. I know the place is cursed," she said lightly, though there was something of an edge to her words. "It has ghosts roaming the halls. It must be haunted and cursed." And yet, there she was, going back for yet another year of school.

Speaking of school... this would be her first term there without Ethan teaching as well. Well, sort of her first term without him. "I believe the plan was for the boys to stay at the estate, with Father, and I am to floo in when I can." She blinked and took a moment, then another moment, to digest what Sylvester was offering. "Are you serious? A place in Hogsmeade? Really?" That close? Could it be SO? "That would be WONDERFUL, Syllie, just tell me how much you want for it."

Well, so long as he named a reasonable number. The place couldn't be in too bad of a shape, too, because she did have a two-year-old that needed safe surroundings.

"There is probably a great number of people who are perfectly ideal for the job of running our country, but ironically, the way things work when it comes to politics, those people will NEVER get the chance of doing so," Sylvester sighed, clearly unconvinced by the logic of his own race.

Sylvester had to give it to the woman. She had chops! He imagined most would shy away from the place, especially if they had previously been given the opportunity to escape, considering everything that went down there. His eyebrows raised slightly at the mention of ghosts, "The more you talk of this Annie, the more I believe you to have gone mad. I say this as your friend, truly," his grin breaking free, presenting itself to the redhead. Nothing was able to defeat his Annie, not even a couple of ghosts. Hmph.

He couldn't help but smile as the woman took in his offer. He loved seeing her face light up like that, although the privilege was usually reserved for a new prada handbag or some louis vuittons. He frowned slightly at the mention of payment, though, "It won't cost you anything. You are my friend, Annie AND it is going unused. We used to use it as a holiday home in the winter since the constant snow gave off a more Christmasy vibe, but it has been years since we've taken advantage of that fact. Plus, if you are going to be assisting me in future news, then we could class that as payment enough." It wasn't like Sylvester was strapped for cash anyway. Well, he definitely wouldn't be after he and Mr. Bott had a few words. Although, what on Earth was he doing helping Annie to remain as close to Ethan as possible? He was definitely getting far too soft. Just like he used to be. Eugh.

"Not for now, anyway," Annie agreed, though a tiny little voice in the back of her mind pipped up then. "However," she raised her pinky from her teacup's handle, "there are Board of Governors elections coming up in about a year. Perhaps some decent people will take an interest in politics around then." Perhaps.

Annie feigned surprise and shock at being called 'crazy' by Syllie, but if she was being honest, that wasn't the first time she'd heard that term associated with her name. Then she caught his grin and let a tiny one of her own escape. "Bit of the pot calling the kettle black, isn't it, Sylvester? I say that as your friend, truly."

The grin only widened at the mention of no cost housing. "How sweet are YOU!!!!!!!" she positively gushed, hopping out of her chair to give him a third hug. Merlin, the Bunzinator was either mellowing out or drinking some special tea, if she was giving hugs this freely. "We'll take it. Yes. It sounds absolutely perfect, I can't say thank you enough, and of course I will be your source whenever you need me. Whenever." She hugged her friend tightly.

"Oh really?" he said with interest, making sure to take note to remember this. It was bound to at least get a half page when the elections eventually came around. "We can but hope," although, unless one of those people had a ridiculous amount of cash lying around, Sylvester still had his doubts.

Pot calling the kettle black, indeed. He gave a her a small wink and even gave out a small chortle as she used his own words against him. "Touché, Bunbury. Touché," because she would always be Bunbury to Sylvester.

Her reaction to finding out he was offering the house free of charge was slightly overwhelming for Sylvester. Especially when the redhead went in for a third hug. He was certain this was a record. Out of the three it was definitely the tightest, and Sylvester matched her in that regard. As they embraced, Sylvester closed his eyes for a moment, taking in her scent and just picturing for a second... what if... what if...

But, no. No ifs. That was long gone.

They removed themselves from each other and Sylvester put his previous thoughts way back in his mind, replacing his melancholy with a smile. "I'm just happy to help you out. I'm also happy that I don't have to go through the trouble of eventually getting round to selling the damn thing," he laughed, taking the final sips of his coffee.

"I'm pleased to hear it," he smiled in response to her saying she would be available whenever he needed her. Yep. Whenever he needed her.

Sigh.

"Really really. You'll be sure to get the inside scoop on that." As best as she was able, Annie would help a friend out. And she would nudge said friend to somehow get the candidates she supported onto the front page. Ahem.

Bunbury? "Truebridge," Annie corrected with a wink. Though you know, with this house deal and all, Sylvester could likely call her anything he damn well wanted. Or almost anything.

Once she was back in her seat, still beaming, her tea long forgotten, Annie nodded along to pretty much whatever Syllie was saying. She was already picturing this place in her mind and how she was going to decorate it. She'd need to hire some house elves, or, well, use the Hogwarts ones, to clean it first, but in time it would surely shape up.

"Yes," she laughed too, pulled from her thoughts by the sound of another's laughter, "it's a win-win for all. Would you owl me the keys and things?" She had probably overstayed her welcome, and would be running late for her meeting as it was. But really, she had gotten a house in Hogsmeade out of the bargain. What could be better than that?

Sylvester nodded, "I wouldn't dare miss something that important, otherwise I'd just be handing Layla Dacosta excuses to fire me," he sniggered.

Truebridge? Hm. No ta. Sylvester chose to just ignore the correction and merely smiled in response. Definitely Bunbury, yep.

As Sylvester continued talking to the redhead, he couldn't help but imagine her mind was elsewhere. Probably picturing her and her family in the house he'd just offered them. Why had he done that again? Wasn't he supposed to be... ya know, a cruel son-of-a blast-ended skrewt?

Sylvester only noticed the time when Annie enquired about him sending over the keys and things. They certainly had been talking. He stood from his seat, in preparation for the goodbyes, agreeing that he would send the keys over to her as soon as he got home. "Check the place out and if it is not to your... or Ethan's," grumble grumble, "taste just let me know and send the keys back."

He would normally open his arms for another hug in farewell, but having already successfully obtained THREE from Annie so far in the space of an hour or so, he didn't want to push his luck. Although, he was half tempted to see what she would do if he did try to sneak in a fourth.

"It was really nice seeing you again, Annie. I'm pleased your at least back in the country, even if you are going to be a little more North than I'd prefer. We'll at least see more of each other this way, though. I'll owl you in a couple of weeks to have lunch or something before term starts and you get swamped with work," he smiled. It felt good to have her around again. "Until then, Annie! Keep in touch," he almost stepped forward for a hug, but remember at the last second and retained his position, putting on his biggest smile as a substitute farewell offering.

Ha! "As if she could find any." Annie smiled reassuringly. She would be asking around about that woman, though, and her connections to the Ministry. Now the redhead was interested in what she had missed living in Egypt all those years...

"Will do!" she chirped, also standing to go. "I'm ever so glad I surprised you, Syllie," she giggled. "Lunch would be lovely. Owl me often if you need to vent about those imbeciles you work with, and I'll do the same." Merlin knew she loved to rant herself. "Ta ta for now!" The redhead leaned in and gave Sylvester a tiny peck on the cheek and a pat on the shoulder, then turned and swept out of the Prophet offices without another glance behind her.

Well. Today was turning out to be quite the successful day!

Sylvester loved the confidence this woman had in him, unfortunately he had actually had the displeasure of conversing with Layla and he knew that she was probably just as capable as him of playing dirty just to get what she wanted. He did not express these opinions to Annie, of course.

He gave a small laugh at her suggestion of sending each other owls about their colleagues. He could see those quickly turning into howlers just to get the full ranting effect through. Man, he hated the people he worked with.

Sylvester accepted the second peck on the cheek from the redhead and waited till she left, giving her a wave of course, before his hand reached up and touched the place her lips had made contact with his face. After reflecting for a short moment he realised that the receptionist had been watching him.

"If you are unable to find jobs to do to keep yourself occupied, I can easily get you fired and find someone who can," he snarled at the girl. She had been witness to far too much kindness on Sylvester's part. He was sure it would spread round the office soon enough. Great.

Grumbling, he left the reception area for his desk once more. He had deadlines to keep, after all.

Chord waltzed into the Daily Prophet entrance and reception area thingy like he OWNED the place. Which, as the paper's newest ~~low-level~~ employee, he DID. Totally did. Never mind that he'd never written for, taken photos for, or worked for any company ever.

He would rock this job. So long as it didn't interrupt his delicate eating, sleeping, and rocking schedule.

"Hello?" the blonde called out loudly, wrenching his sunglasses off his face dramatically. Now that was an entrance. Too bad there was... no one around to see it. "Helllllooooooooo????!" the twenty-something sang out again. Still no answer.

Delivering newspaper around the Diagon Alley. SERIOUSLY?! If their job is just delivering newpaper, Gary didn't want to apply as an intern here. Better to apply a part-time job as a muggle newspaper boy 'coz he would get money for it.

Well, this is just their first task, right? Just do it, Gerald! It wasn't hard actually.

Taking some printed issues, Gary put it on his bag and walked outside. He was ready for deliver it around Diagon Alley. Thankfully he decided to ride a bike here. So it would help him in delivery process. Yeah, muggle style. But he enjoyed it. But he almost forgot one thing.. He needed to work it together with Katrina, right? Where's that girl?

"Oi." He started to speak to her. "We need to divide ourselves." He suggested. So, it would be faster, right?
