13B Knockturn Alley

http://i1220.photobucket.com/albums/...psi9iwqy9t.jpg

Inside the same big building of Borgin and Burkes resides another important 'place', if you shall call it. The woman running most, if not all, the alley's shops spends most of her time in this soundproof and protected room. It's in the first floor with a separate entrance from the shop, but no one can enter without permission. Korpsit, the only working goblin in the alley, is usually the one who lets people into the room. Do not ask him questions, do not make eye contact with him, do not even try to fool him, just state your name and business then follow him inside if he ushers you in.

Once inside the room (congratulations!), it will feel as if the you have entered an improved dungeon cell. The walls are bare of paint or wallpaper, the floor is stony and raggedy, unlike the furniture that is clean and neat. Cabinets of sorts line the walls with a relatively big safe on one of the walls. A conference table made of solid substance takes up most of the space in the room, it's said to be made of bones but the real nature of its construction is unknown to all. The chairs surrounding the peculiar table are cushioned and regular except for a crown of thorns on one of them, the one the boss usually occupies. It's not her style but she cannot be bothered with remodeling.

This isn't a place for the weak-hearted or fools, people do not play games here only business. Enter on your own risk.

ooc: this isn't a shop, only invited characters can post inside the room.
If your character isn't invited but would like to explore, they may check the entrance... but we don't guarantee what happens to the curious eyes!

Peverell was swamped with work. It seemed like he had to do everything on his own around here, you could trust no one, not even that blasted Goblin of his who was considered the 'smartest' and most cunning. All talk. Snort. Emma refused to get her hands dirty with REAL work so he was stuck with work in this boring room for hours and hours.

A cup of unknown liquid sat beside him as he read from a parchment and knitted his eyebrows so hard at what he was reading. Angry, mad, annoyed, all emotions looked the same on his pasty white face.

No she wouldn't be doing his paper work; no she wouldn't be helping him get the documents sorted out and no she wouldn't allow Korpsit to either. The goblin was warned well in advanced that Peverell would be handling the next few matters of business on his own; payback of sorts even if he didn't know it.

It was nothing less than he deserved and he was lucky it was the furthest she was willing to go given how much it could compromise the efficiency of the Alley. Make no mistake, even at her angriest, Emma did NOT trust the man to not run the place into the ground. He wasn't the type to sit around the desk for hours going over papers, the man lacked the diligence.

Right now, she was aware the man was in his office suffering as she'd hoped and she was all set to leave him that way. He didn't need to know. It wasn't any of his business and he would have no say in the matter either...so why did she let herself in anyway? The woman took to the wall in the far corner, folding her arms and fixing him with a hard look. "I need to talk to you." Even as she spoke, she couldn't believe she was doing this.

Peverell didn't appreciate the whole ganging-up-on-the-boss agenda. He worked silently, though, and ignored Emma just like he would ignore a beautiful butterfly on a flowery canvas. He should have better employees if you ask him. Ones that bowed when he walked by, and offered him food and drinks and unconditional love. Not someone who'd make it harder for him to work and boss his Goblin around FOR him. Sigh, grumble. He would make sure to punish the blasted creature later.

"Do you now," he replied lazily, not lifting his eyes off the parchments in front of him. "Don't you look a little grumpy and puffy today." He didn't have to see her face to tell, it was all in her demeanor and voice tone.

.....Did he just......unbelievable. Puffy. Puffy. She knew she shouldn't have expected much in the way of sensitivity from the man but PUFFY??? Instinctively, her eyes fell to her stomach wondering if he somehow already knew but this was Peverell. There was no way.

Emma cleared her throat, unwilling to let him gain any hand in this forced conversation.

"I'm going to....not be around for a little while." A little while....9 months...it was all the same in the end and all his fault. "Korpsit will handle my responsibilities and the majority of the documentation. I'll work through the next three months but then you shouldn't expect to see me."

At no point did it sound like she was asking a question; the woman was simply TELLING him what was going to happen.

Peverell thought he was going to hear her report on something or demanding some sort of documents that he forgot to sign or forge or burn, but no. She was telling him that she was... leaving? For a little while? Emma? He had to look up at her again to make sure she was Emma.

He turned the parchment over before tucking it into the folder. "Are you going on a trip?" Personal purposes? Did she even have a personal life? He had no idea and he didn't want to know, all he wanted to know was why his assistant and right hand was leaving. If it was a work trip, he'd know about it. He couldn't risk having the person he trusted with most of the work around here disappear. Or worse, betray him.

Oh look, she'd finally caught his attention. It brought a little satisfaction but only a little considering the bigger problem that was still well ahead of her. "You might say that. A trip of sorts. I have a bit of business to take care of." None of his concern per say and nothing she truly needed to explain to him.

Who cared that it was half his? He would never get to look at it or touch it or seep into it in any manner or form.

"It doesn't matter. Like I said, I'll still be here for the next three months or so. If you need anything in that time, fine. If not, try not to bother me too much." Being hormonal was the worst, having Peverell see would only kill her faster.

Her curiousity--or distrust of his abilities to do business really--got the better of her, leading her to nod toward the documents on his desk. "What are those?"

... a bit of business? Peverell didn't move a muscle but he was storing everything she was saying and adding it up to her body language. "What kind of business?" He asked patiently. "I'm sure the new kid will go with you without any problems." The one who came to them seeking shelter and somewhere to belong. He obviously picked the best place to start.

Peverell let her look at the documents, they were empty unless his fingertips touched them. Even if she could read them, they were just documents to clean out the messes his employees were doing here and there under the MLE's noses. She knew of most of those. He, however, ignored her question and remained on her face. "Before you joined me in my business, you knew the one rule I apply on you." Because she wasn't like the rest of his people, she was his... thing. Ya know? The thing that helped? Yes, that. "Transparency and loyalty." So... this whole shifty business? It wasn't setting well with him. He was going to figure it out one way or another. Not going to succumb to ugly methods yet, but they weren't out of the question.

Nothing could have shot the grimace unto her face faster. "I didn't say I needed company and if I did he would be the last person on my call list." Correction, Peverell would be the last person on her call list but for the sake of getting her point across she would leave her statement as it was. Having gotten that off her chest, Emma went back to his earlier question. "Business you don't need to be concerned with." Hadn't she just said this?

Was he aware she'd added several incantations to each document that went to him? Did he remember she was the one who typically handled business and thus usually got the papers before sending them along? Just because she'd told the Goblin to stay clear and had made a note to leave them to him, didn't mean she hadn't glanced and bugged them accordingly and the words appeared the moment she walked over and swooped one off the paper.

Ah. This. There was no way he could mess this up. Nothing for her to lose her composure over.

"I'm being as 'transparent' and 'loyal' as I need to be. It's nothing that will affect the business and it most certainly won't affect you. That being said, that's all I'll be saying on the matter."

Peverell expected her to decline his polite offer of giving her one of his spies employee to accompany her. Now, he had to go and assign another one that would track her down and see where she was headed, SEE, people didn't make things easy for him! They forced him to be bad, then they would blame him for whatever consequences their foolish attitude brought on them. Bunch o' nugget heads.

"I see," he said through squinted eyes before gracing her with one of his sweeeeet smiles. "Well then, you go ahead and do your business. I am not one to stand in the way of your busy-ness," he cracked himself up and went back to his papers.

Yep. Definitely going to find out what she's on about. Defz.

But apparently he WAS interested, and Persy sighed. It was just too bad, wasn't it?

So she followed him, tightening the hood around her face. She could not afford to be seen, not at all. She spoke no words, made not a sound...just...followed.

Once here, Korpsit had left his 'guest' outside to have a word with Emma. There would be no point ushering this one in if the boss didn't have a mind to speak with her.

As he'd suspected, trades weren't on the table but there was definitely interest that saw him heading back outside to rejoin the woman who'd finally and thankfully gone silent. "Follow me inside. Watch your step." Or not. What did he care?

The goblin hobbled back inside after giving Emma a moment to prepare the room. "This is the woman I spoke of. She brought a letter from her daddy but it disappeared." There was the faintest hint of contempt as he spoke. There always was.

DaniDiNardo 10-05-2016 03:13 PM

It'd taken her a moment to agree and even then, she still hadn't agreed to much, just listening. The last time something like this went down, Knockturn Alley was overrun with Law Enforcement. Naturally, they found nothing here but it was bothersome and bad for business all the same. She wasn't Peverell, she would have to carefully calculate the risks.

As Korpsit left the room, the usual charms were placed over Noah's play area. She was not to be seen or heard; it simply worked out better that way for all involved and she would hate to give anyone the wrong ideas. The exceptionally foolish tended to act on bad ideas and it, in turn, led her to do very bad things.

Emma took a seat at the large table after dropping a large enough sweet that the two year old wouldn't choke on while she couldn't be directly watching her. It was only a minute later when Korpsit re-entered with their......guest. "Have a seat."

kayquilz 10-08-2016 04:18 AM

Persy did watch her step, and she made sure not to let her hood down before stepping inside, her cold eyes making their way over everything as she followed the goblin.

Her eyes rested on the woman before her, a dark haired, sullen looking woman. Persy did sit, as she was told, and raised an eyebrow at the goblin. "For secrecy reasons, I assure you, though my father's methods are not my own." She was still very much feeling dragged into this, though she had not really put a fight against it, either.

Nevertheless, here she was. "I assume the creature told you of the..contents of the letter?" she asked the older woman.
