PROCLAMATION FROM THE PRINCESS
I can't explain why I love The Emperor's New Groove so much... JUST KIDDING. Of course I know. I love the voice actors. I love the buddy comedy vibe that's a throwback to some of my fave old classic movies. I love the jokes that I've been quoting for.. um... 20 years now. I love the animation style. I love so much. I don't feel like this is a controversial choice for a Disney animation to love, and if anyone ever wants to watch it with me, make sure you're ready to have me quote-texting at you the whole time.

I have always wanted to make spinach puffs like this man! I love this movie. I can't believe it's twenty. Everytime I heard Eartha Kitt's version of "Santa Baby," on the radio this season, I was obligated to inform my companions that it was, in fact, the voice of Yzma. I used to watch the TV show spinoff of this movie in my dorm room. Ugh. Beautiful icons, Ern. Keep the Disney nostalgia coming.

PROCLAMATION FROM THE PRINCESS
Kimba controversy aside *ahem* The Lion King is a film that holds a very VERY special place in my youth and continues on to this day. I recently rediscovered my love for this film when I took my boys (ages 3 and 7) to see their first musical which was, yes, The Lion King. I don't think there is any other film - animated or otherwise - that captivates me more in the first second (NAAAAAAAAAAAAAANTS with that SUN rising) than this film. The music is incredible and creating this grab bag really made he appreciate the film's attention to detail. Not just in the character designs (adult Simba made me question a LOT of things and UGH SCAR IS A FANTASTIC VILLAIN), but how often circles appear in the film and how that one single shape frames so many of the scenes as well. It's a film that helped me come to terms with a lot of the harsher realities of the world and, honestly, WHO can resist belting out the Circle of Life?

PROCLAMATION FROM THE PRINCESS
I don't remember seeing ads for Meet the Robinsons or going to see it in the theater or anything. It's just like it appeared within the Disney canon one day, and I had the pleasure of watching it with absolutely no idea of what it was about. That's so unusual anymore, right? Like I see movies these days with all the best bits already served up in the trailer and a pretty good idea of the plot and themes before I even sit down. SO ANYWAY, watching MtR was this very surreal experience, because I had no clue what it was, and it was SO DELIGHTFULLY WEIRD. Time travel and singing frogs (Frank Sinatra as an amphibian) and an octopus butler. A very odd food fight. A dinosaur attack. A creepy man in a bowler hat with a thing for unicorns. And all those Robinsons. So weird and wonderful and zany.

And the theme, this idea of failure as a necessary step to success and of choosing our family when those who are supposed to love us are insufficient, these themes are always something I go back to. Maybe you've seen and forgotten MtR, maybe you've never seen it (it lives in the back canon of Disney with the other non-princess/non-Pixar movies), but it should be one we return to all the time, if only to light the creative fires and to remind us of the wonderful and the whimsical.

EEEEEERN! These are so cute I think I've seen this movie ONCE and I barely remember it - it must have showed up on the Disney Channel at some point and I had it on as BGM or something. I love your experimentation with text

PROCLAMATION FROM THE PRINCESS
What initially drew me to want to see The Princess and the Frog was the music and Anika Noni Rose playing the lead role of Tiana. After the film, Tiana herself became my biggest take-away and she is such a strong Disney princess for the modern age. She has a fierce determination and works hard for herself to achieve her dreams. Her strong morals passed down on to her from her parents, such as never taking the easy deal, become a pivotal element to the plot and send a very strong and positive message to young kids watching the film. Another thing that is QUITE the departure from most Disney princess movies is that in this film the princess does NOT up her previous life to be with the prince. In fact, Prince Naveen is the one who changes and passes on a life of leisurely luxury because his love for Tiana and admiration helps bring out a better man in himself and joins her instead in New Orleans. And can we talk about the music of this movie? It is so catchy and fun. The animation style is likewise beautiful and the color pallet of the film is just stunning.
