Hello! I'm MJ and I've been an SS member for a very long time and an artist for even longer. I'm also an art teacher for grades 7-12, and I've also enjoyed doing crafts for as long as I remember, so I feel like I'm constantly creating something in an artistic vein.

Anyway, I have shared a few things here and there on SS, for one reason or another (mostly IC or fan club things), but I've never saw reason to have a thread of my own creations. But recently I've been inspired to create some SSRPG related artwork and I thought I might share some of it here. Currently on my to-do list are drawings of my characters and a graphic novel inspired by one of my characters. I likely won't share anything that isn't HP or SSRPG related, but anything that falls into those categories will be fair game. And maybe I'll dig up some of my past creations to post here (but probably not, because I don't tend to like revisiting past work. We'll see).

I think I'm finally finished with this portrait - it's of my current SSRPG school character, Gunnar McCarthy. I'm using Prismacolor Premier colored pencils on toned tan paper, and I did consult a photo of his FC, Cayden Boyd, for reference. I really enjoy working with colored pencils as they're very satisfying for me, but they also take me a very long time to complete artwork. This portrait took me about 9 hours to complete, but I'm fairly happy with the result.

Edit: I keep looking at it. I cannot believe this is colored pencil. I also have some Prismacolor pencils, but they're mostly for coloring in my adult coloring book. I can't believe this is not like, an oil painting, where the eyes follow you around the room?!?!?!?! Because they do?!?! There is so much life in this DRAWING!!!! I am amazed.

I love admiring other's artwork and style, MJ this is brilliant. The amount of depth you put into Gunnar's nose and eyes gives it a proper 3-Dimmensional look. It's as if he'll pop out of the page at any moment! I love it.

Oh, thank you, I'm really glad you think so. Getting the shading in the skin just the way I wanted it definitely took some time. But yes, I really enjoy seeing how people portray their characters too, especially when it's not exactly the same as their face claim. I did take a few creative liberties myself to make him a little more how I see him.

Oh thanks so much, Lauren. I really love working with dry media; it's my favorite, especially drawing pencils. I have to say that you inspired me to draw my characters after I saw you mention recently something about drawing characters...though I'm not sure if you have yourself? I know I've seen some of your digital drawings, which are quite lovely btw and you should have your own thread here.

Aww thank you, Tori! Lol Holly pls, and yeah he does retain some of his softness here, I think... which he is reluctant to admit heh. His eyes are one place I used more my own interpretation...

Oh, me too... I love art so much and I truly enjoy looking at other people's artwork. And thank you so much! I did put a lot of effort into that detail and proper shading to achieve that effect so I'm glad you thought so ^^

and Holy McHeckle that portrait of Noémi is incredible. I am once again blown away by how you manage to capture changing skintone and highlights and shadows and also!!! her lips, nose, and teeth are done so well (I think I noticed that because I just always have such trouble with those features).
