The Time Room This room is, by far, the brightest one in the Department of Mysteries. Clocks can be found anywhere there's a stable spot. A huge crystal bell jar stands at the far end of the room, and it is from this that the sparkling light comes. The bell jar stands on a desk and appears to be full of a billowing, glittering wind. Inside the jar, rising and falling on the glittering current, a tiny object moves through an endless loop. The object is a small humingbird, but it doesn't always stay so; at the bottom of its circuit, the bird is within its egg. As it rises, it hatches and grows into a mature bird by the time it reaches the apex of its path. On the way back down, it becomes a fledgling bird and then reenters its egg, which reforms around it. This progression of time repeats over and over within the jar. Also, a large glass-fronted case stands against a wall within which many Time-Turners of various sizes rest on shelves. To the very left as you walk in, a dark oak desk sits in front of the whiteboard with a few, thin file folders on it. The nameplate is hard to read, but as you walk closer the name reflects off of the golden background as 'RaeAnn Asteria'. The desk was so neat on it that it was hard to tell if anything had ever been touched. There were few pictures on the desk, if any at all. The drawers were locked, full of personal and departmental items that need not be disturbed. It was so perfect, it was hard to imagine what could be in there. So step on in, and don't be afraid. The ticking will fade after a while. |
Candra Aylin would hate to admit it out loud, but she was... Nervous. As she stepped into the Time Room, her first reaction to the seemingly blinding light was to pull out a pair of Wizarding sunglasses from the shoulder bag that was slung over her shoulder. As she perched them on her nose, she found that the light had reduced substantially, and, instead of doing what she'd heard countless times from her Pureblood relatives about Muggle sunglasses, she could still see everything perfectly. The sunglasses are violet and match the ring Candra wears on her right index finger. The Wizarding watch on her left wrist seems ironic compared to what's in the room--but it's like Jet Lag, you need to sometimes keep to your own body clock. Candra's clothes are not very imaginative today. A red, form fitting vest which was the first thing Candra could grab on her haste to get here and some slightly baggy, but nevertheless new jeans and some smart Muggle trainers are what adorn her. She supposes she should be wearing robes, but she didn't have time to remove the incriminating stain that she'd made on them that breakfast, so she'd folded them up neatly and took them to work with her in a shoulder bag, in case she got a spare minute... The room didn't appear that much duller, or dimmer due to the sunglasses, but the light emanating from the large bell jar that rests on a desk at the far side of the room seems less likely to give Candra a headache now. As Candra moves slowly towards the bell jar, she notices what's around her in more detail, clocks on any sturdy place, Time-Turners in a large, glass case... But what really draws her attention is the small bird inside the bell jar, repeating it's life cycle over and over again with the shimmering light that swirls around with it. Entranced, Candra blew a strand of shimmering hair out of her eyes, and knelt down by the bell jar, adjusting her shoulder bag as she did so. I hope I'm not supposed to be doing something already... It's just so... Wonderful. |
Cassandra Ford silently opened the door into the Time Room, slightly nervous as to meeting her Division Head. Flinching, she reached her hand up to her face, shadowing her eyes so she could somewhat see. Eyes blinking rapidly, trying to get the spots gone, the woman looked aorund the room. Clocks. That was basically most of what she saw on any spots that were stable enough for support. Looking around the room, Cassandra didn't see anyone, so she assumed she was early. That was, until she saw a young woman towards the end of the room, looking at what seemed to be some sort of jar. But what was strange, was that her hair looked multi-colored. 'That's odd.' Cassandra thought, her brown eyes sliwly adjusting to the various lights in the room. She looked around again, seeing a glass-fronted case against a wall. She slowly walked towards it, and under further inspection, found that there were various Time-Turners resting on the shelves. Deciding to see what the jar at the end of the room was, the woman approached the the jar. Nearing it, Cassandra saw the Humming Bird in it. But what was strange, was that the bird looked as if it was repeating it's life cycle over and over. Fascinated, Cassandra stood a few feet behind the woman that was already looking at the Bell Jar. 'I wonder when the Division Head will get here, unless he or she is already here, hiding, or working... |
Meredith opened the door to the Time Room and stepped in. She couldn't wait to meet her new employees. Standing just inside the door, Meredith didn't move for a moment, closing her eyes and letting the steady ticking of the clocks relax her. Opening her eyes, Meredith noticed two women standing by the giant hourglass. Her employees couldn't be here already, could they? It wasn't time yet. Meredith looked at one of the many clocks on the wall. Oh. She was late. 'Nice way to make a good impression on your employees, Meredith,' she thought to herself. 'Be late on the first day.' Meredith put a smile on her face and walked over to her two employees. "Hello," she greeted. "I'm your Division Head, Meredith Watson." |
Still watching the bird in the bell jar, Cassandra didn't notice someone enter the room. But when she heard a new voice, she slightly jumped. She turned around, seeing another woman walking up to her and the multi-haired one. "Oh! Hello." She said. "I'm Cassandra, Cassandra Ford. I'm sure it'll be a pleasure working with you in this division, Miss Watson." She slightly smiled back, her nervousness coming back. "This room is simply... stunning. I've never seen so many clocks in my life." She exclaimed, looking around. "And the bird in the bell jar. Wow." |
"Hello, Cassandra" Meredith said warmly. "Call me Meredith. I'm not much for formalities." Meredith followed Cassandra's gaze around the room. "It is amazing in here," Meredith agreed, a look of pure bliss spreading across her face. Anyone looking at her at that moment could tell that Meredith loved her job. "I could stay in this room for hours, just listening to the clocks tick and watching the hummingbird." |
Parker pushed the door open to the Time Room, and was instantly greeted by blinding brightness. Closing her eye, she listened to the steady rhythm of the clocks. Opening her eyes, she could see tiny multicolor dots surrounding her sight. 'Could this room be any brighter?' she asked silent to herself as she glance around at the many clocks. Her eyes landed on a small group of women standing around a strange bell jar. Letting her head fall, since she felt embarrassed since she was possible the last to arrive to work. 'Great I'm late and the last to arrive.' she thought hopelessly to herself as she walked over to the others. "I'm so very sorry I'm late and I'm Parker Grey." She introduced herself with her American accent peeking though her worlds. |
"Hello, Parker," Meredith greeted, immediately picking up on the American accent. She made a mental note to herself to ask Parker where she was from later. "I'm Meredith Watson, your Division Head. Don't worry about being late," Meredith reassured Parker. "I was actually a few minutes late myself." Meredith's own American accent showed when she spoke. "Well," Meredith began, looking around at her three employees. "Since everyone is here now, we can start. We have some Time-Turners that are broken," Meredith gestured towards a box of tiny hourglasses, "and we need to fix them. Since they're made of very strong magic, we have to wear special suits to make sure none of the sand inside touches our skin." Meredith went over to the only corner of the room that was not covered with a clock and opened the cupboard that was there. She pulled out the suits and began handing them to her employees. |
"Good morning Meredith." Parker greeted happily since her boss already seemed pretty awesome. She was still too shocked at how cool the room was and how amazingly beautiful the clocks were. She noticed her boss also had an American accent as well. She was utterly take a back by the hummingbird in the bell jar. "I promise I won't be late again. I just miss calculated my timing." she explained since she knew better then to be late. Saying a quick "Thanks." to her boss for handing out the protective suits. Resting the suit in her left arm, she pulled out a hair-tie from her bag, she quickly pulled her curls into a messy ponytail. Leaving her bangs falling in her left eye. 'This is a very intresting first day.' she thought to herself. |
Cassandra smiled, she could tell Meredith really loved her job. "Yes, it is amazing..." The dark haired woman looked to where another woman entered. She introduced herself as Parker. "Hello, Parker." She said. "I'm Cassandra." Turning back to Meredith, Cassandra noticed the box of broken Time-Turners. "Thank you." She said, taking the protective suit from the head. Following Parker's example, Cassandra also took a hairtie out from her pocket, and tied her own hair into a low side-ish ponytail, leaving only her fringe. |
Parker turned to the woman who had introduced herself as Cassandra. "Oh, hello Cassandra." she greeted cheerfully with a hint of tiredness. "I'm Parker." she introduced herself with politeness. She was rather happy since her fellow coworker seemed really nice and to Parker that was a bonus. Since she wasn't sure how well she could get along with someone who was either mean or rude for that matter. Her eye traveled to the box filled with the broken Time-Turners. She had read about them but never once in her life saw them as in for real only pictures from the books she read. Sighing, she pulled the suit over her small shoulders and quickly pulled up the zipper. The suits remind her ever much of muggle hazmat suits. This job was certainly amazing as she was sure she was slowly falling in love with the rhythmic sound that filled the room. |
Meredith finished handing out the suits and pulled her own suit on. Although the suits did look much like muggle hazmat suits, they were magically enhanced to be lighter and much more comfortable. Meredith walked over to where the box was on the floor and carefully picked it up. She brought it over to a table and set the box down. Meredith turned to her employees and began to explain what they were doing. "These particular Time Turners are just cracked," she said. "We need to transfer the sand to new hourglasses." Meredith waved her wand and another box, this one full of new hourglasses, appeared on the table. "You need to be very careful, though. If any of the sand from different Time Turners gets mixed or spills, the consequences can be disastrous to the space-time continuum." Meredith looked at her employees through the protective face shield of the suit. "Any questions?" she asked. |
Parker listened carefully to Meredith's instructions and made a mental note to be extra cautious not to make any mistake. Since she was sure no good would come from accidentally destroying the thin line that was the space-time continuum. She looked down at the box filled with new hourglasses and hoped she wouldn't drop on, since she wasn't the most coordinated person in the world. "Nope." she said calmly as she gentle grabbed one of the broken hourglass. She couldn't help but smile since she was actually holding a Time-Turner, even though it was broken it was still pretty amazing. She hated the word slow, since she liked doing everything but she could understand why this job had to be done slowly. |
Pulling on the protective suit, Cassandra listened to the instructions from Meredith. She put the 'extra cautious' note in her brain. Figuratively, of course. 'No mixed, nor spilled sand, would cause damage to space-time continuum.' She put that in her brain, too. Pulling down the face mask of her suit, she said, "No." Gently taking one of the Time-Turners out of the box, Cassandra studied it. Her's looked pretty much the same to all the others in the boxes. Yet, it still looked different from the others. It wasn't the crack, either. 'Time-Turners truly are amazing...' |
"Great!" Meredith said, grinning at Parker, Cassandra, and Candra. "Let's get started, then. Remember, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me. I'd much rather spend all my time answering questions than have one of you make a mistake because you didn't understand something." Waving her wand, Meredith produced another box, this one empty and marked, 'fixed Time Turners'. "Once you're done, put the Time Turners in here," she said. Later, Meredith would put the final spell on them to make the Time Turners usable again. Meredith selected a Time Turner whose wood was beginning to rot. Taking a new hourglass from one of the boxes, she began to work, keeping an eye on the new employees. |
ooc: I'm really, really, really, really, really, really sorry! Looking up from her Time-Turner, she listened to Meredith. "Yes ma'am. I'll be sure to." Cassandra said, giving a sharp nod. She saw a box appeared, with a sign on it labeled 'Fixed Time-Turners'. The Ford woman watched as her department head sat down at her own desk, with her own broken Time-Turner from the box. Turning back to her own, Cassandra started to study it again. "What needs fixing?" She asked herself, under her breath. Soon she found it, a small crack in the top part of the hourglass. And so she began to work. ooc: Hey Boss, how do you want the employess to fix them? (Meaning, how do want us to explain how we fix them?) And how would we fix them? Sorry for the questions! |
ooc: Don't worry about it. I understand that life gets busy sometimes. As for how to fix the Time-Turners, get creative about it. There really is no right or wrong way to do it. You can RP yourself having some type of problem, or anything. Just have fun. And I don't mind questions! :D Meredith observed her employees as they began to work on the Time Turners. They seemed to be doing a good job, especially for their first day. She just hoped nothing went wrong . . . there were so many different problems that could come from fixing Time Turners. Finishing up her first repair, Meredith placed the Time Turner in the box labled, 'Fixed Time Turners'. She grabbed another one and began working on it, while still attentive to her employees in case they needed any help. |
Candra had to admit--she'd been taken by surprise. She hadn't heard anyone entering behind her, but before she knew it the room had been filled by two other employees, and the Department Head. They'd all introduced themselves to each other as she'd stood there, dumbstruck at how they'd managed to get into the room without her realising... And then, suddenly, she was being handed a protective suit, and told what she was to do first. Well, the first thing Candra did was to push her shoulder bag safely under a table that wasn't in use by anything other than a clock. The second thing was tying her hair up in a bun, and it's multicoloured shine shimmered slightly as she did so. By the time the 'Fixed Time Turners' box had appeared, Candra had pulled on her protective suit, and was wondering absently if everyone else thought she was tremendously rude or something, as she hadn't uttered a single word aloud since she'd walked through that door... She carefully picked up a broken Time Turner, and began to examine it slowly. At last, she found a long, hairline crack that ran down the length of the hourglass. "Aha!" Candra breathed, excitement and anxiety building up within her as she lifted her wand to the crack, muttering words under her breath in a nervous habit, and watching intently as the crack grew bigger without shattering the glass. When the crack was big enough, Candra began to un-verbally speak another spell, and the sand slowly rose out of the crack, moving with her hand as she drew it to a new Time Turner she'd set next to her, letting the sand settle in it's new home, and, sealing the Time Turner with a flick of her wand, Candra set the Fixed Time Turner in it's appropriate box and heaved a huge sigh of relief. Even if the rest are that easy, it's sure going to be stressful... |
I'm really really really really super uber sorry !! Parker nodded, before getting to work at a slugs pace. She wants used to do thing so slow, she was sure time was no longer moving. But then again she was sure she could live with going slow, rather then making a mistake that could ruin time itself. The nineteen year old was beginning to realize that for this job, she was going to have to gain some how to take things slower then she would like. Her mind started to wandered to other things as she did her work, even though she still managed to keep an eye on what she was doing. Looking over at the fixed Time-Turner box, she couldn't help but notice how full it was becoming. Which meant the job was almost done and that meant hopefully there would be another thing for them to do after this. |
Pausing in her work, Cassandra thought back to her sixth year in Hogwarts. The year when her father gave the big news. That he and his pureblood of a girlfriend were getting married. Thirteen years later, and she still doesn't understand why her father married that woman. She shook her head. 'I shouldn't still be thinking about this. I need to get back to work...' Resuming her task given to her, Cassandra soon fixed her first Time-Turner. She got up from her workspace, and walked over to the 'Fixed' box. Gently putting hers in the box, she picked up another hourglass from the other box, and walked back to her workspace. She then started working on her new one. |
ooc: Seriously, everyone, don't worry about it. I'm just glad you're here now. :D Finishing her second Time Turner, Meredith began to walk around the room, checking on her employees. As she walked around the desk and checked everyone's work, she again asked, "Is everyone doing okay? Anyone have any questions?" She knew she was sounding like a broken record, but it was imperative that no mistakes be made. Meredith was actually surprised at how little had gone wrong so far. Usually there were more problems than this on the employees' first day . . . |
ooc: Are you just asking for trouble to happen? x) Don't worry, Cassandra's too old (29) to make mistakes...:P Cassandra worked silently to the steady ticking of the abundant amount of clocks throughout the room. Her current Turner's wood was rotting. She paused in her work when Meredith spoke. "I'm doing fine, Meredith. I'm quite sure I don't have any questions. But when I do, I'll ask." The dark haired woman responded. Actually, she did have one question... 'Why has only so little has gone wrong so far?' |
"Great," Meredith replied, giving a warm smile to Cassandra. Meredith paused for a moment, watching Cassandra work. As she moved on to the next employee, Meredith heard what sounded like a small explosion behind her. Startled, she whirled around, looking for the source of the noise. It could have been anything, from someone making a mistake or simply something in the room malfunctioning. "What happened?" she demanded, a suddenly serious look on her face. Whatever had gone wrong, it hadn't sounded good. |
Cassandra nodded to Meredith's comment, and resmumed working. She could feel her boss watch her for a moment, before moving on. She was almost done with her current Turner, before she heard a small explosion. She flinched, almost dropping her Time-Turner, but she didn't, she catched it. She didn't want to see the consequences if she did. Setting the hourglass down, Cassandra turned around in her seat. She looked toward her boss, who had a serious look on her face. "I don't know, Meredith." She said. 'But it sounded bad...' |
Meredith nodded, still scanning the room to find the source of the problem. "If anyone sees anything that could have caused that, let me know," she said calmly, her voice not portraying the panic she felt. Meredith walked around the room, checking and double checking everything in her attempts to find out what had happened. |
"Got it." Cassandra said, giving a sharp nod. Quickly finishing her Time-Turner, she got up and put it in the box. She started walking around the room, looking for the source, like her boss was doing. She walked towards the bell jar, to make sure it, and the bird, were okay. Nearing it, she saw a pile of something just a few feet off. Crouching down, Cassandra saw that the pile was made up of wooden bits. Wooden bits that looked as if just broken. "Meredith! There are some wooden bits over here." She looked around. ooc: Not quite sure if this was what you wanted the explosion to be... I'll edit if nessecary |
Meredith rushed over to where Cassandra was eying some wood bits on the floor near the giant hourglass. Looking closer, she also noticed a bit of sand. Meredith glanced up, looking to see if she could find the source of the wood. On the wall next to the hourglass, there was a row of Time Turners hanging from some nails. Meredith noticed that one of those nails did not have a Time Turner on it . . . This was bad. Very bad. Meredith looked up at the other three women in the room. "Are you all paying attention?" She asked. "What I'm about to do is very important for you to know, just in case this happens to you." Meredith's voice still had an eerily calm tone to it. |
Cassandra watched as Meredith rushed over to where she was, and inspecting the bits. When she looked up, Cassandra followed her gaze, seeing the nail with no Time-Turner. 'This must be bad.' She thought. 'Didn't she say that if they're broken they could corrupt the space time-continum?' She stared blankly at her findings, now known as the small explosion, a broken Time-Turner. Cassandra just nodded in response to her bosses question, still staring at the bits, but paying attention all the same. |
Meredith looked at each of her employees, making sure they were paying attention. Once she was sure she had their attention, Meredith used her wand to conjure up a dustpan and carefully swept up the wood bits, the glass and the sand. She was especially careful to sweep up every grain of sand that was on the floor. She brought the dustpan over to the table that she was working at before, grabbing a new hourglass on the way. "All right," Meredith said once everything was gathered on the table. "This is a little more complicated than just putting sand in a new hourglass. Does anyone have any ideas about how we might do this?" |
Cassandra watched as Meredith used her wand to conjure up a dustpan, and swept up the wood bits, glass, and sand. She put a mental note in her mind of what her boss was doing. When Meredith asked if anyone had any ideas, Cassandra gave a sharp "No, ma'am." She glanced out of the corner of her eye at her colleages. 'Wonder if they know anything? Might. Who knows what Hogwarts taught them...' ooc: Sorry fro not posting, SS wouldn't work, some maintence problem... |
Candra left her seat and walked over to where Meredith and Cassandra were standing. She peered at the dustpan thoughtfully... "Isn't it perhaps possible to use a... Separating spell?" Candra asked slowly, chewing her lip absently as she mulled over whether separating spells actually existed. Her accent came out a little too English than usual, but it was her first day--she was still awfully nervous. And to top it all off, she'd never got around to properly introducing herself--like this was the time. OOC~From this weekend onwards I should be able to come online and post a lot more! Yay! Happiness! |
Meredith listened to Cassandra and Candra's answers, then considered Candra's idea. That hadn't been quite what Meredith had been thinking of, but it just might work. Meredith smiled encouragingly at Candra as she said, "That's a good idea. Would you like to try it?" she asked. |
The older woman looked at Candra from the corner of her eye when she appeared. 'Separating spell? Hmm...' Cassandra looked towards Meredith, wondering what her boss was thinking about the suggestion. She gave a slight smile at the answer Candra got. 'I wonder what she will do to fix it...' ooc: Cassandra's the oldest... at 29 |
Candra's eyes widened involuntarily as her boss asked her whether she'd like to try out her suggestion. Momentally unable to form long words, Candra stuttered her reply. "Y-yes, of course..." Once again biting her lip in her anxiety, Candra slowly moved nearer to the table and fingered her wand thoughtfully. This... This will be tricky. Candra carefully moved her wand tip to hover just above several large fragments of glass, and, taking a deep breath, flicked her wand upwards sharply. Her non-verbal spell worked, and several of the major glass fragments hovered softly above the dustpan. Candra twisted her wand slightly, and the pieces slowly turned in mid-air, sand and miniature glass fragments falling gently back to the pile. Candra flicked her wand again, allowing the larger glass fragments to land softly in a separate pile. Candra heaved a huge sigh of relief, knowing that this was only the easy part. Glancing back for a split second, Candra proceeded to use the same tactic for the larger parts of wood, and that, proving successful like the larger glass fragments, left only the tiny fragments of glass and wood and sand. Peering closer at the minuscule, shattered pieces once more, Candra moved a small section aside and tried her technique out on that. She managed the separate the generally visible wood and glass with some difficulty, but the tricky part was separating the almost-sawdust-like-pieces of wood and tiny, hand-splitting parts of glass from the delicate grains of sand. Unsure whether to continue, or whether there was a better way, Candra hesitated and looked back at Meredith for a moment. "Should I continue, uhm, sir...?" Candra paused at the last word, unsure whether this was what Meredith preferred to be addressed as. It's going to be tricky, and awfully risky if I continue in this method... But I'm pretty certain I'm doing it right... I'm pretty certain I can finish what I've started if I must! |
Meredith watched Candra carefully, ready to help if anything went wrong. However, Candra seemed to be a very talented witch, and she did everything perfectly. When Candra paused, Meredith smiled at her encouragingly and said, "Keep going. You're doing a really good job so far." Meredith didn't like being called sir; it was too formal for her. But Candra seemed to be concentrating hard on separating the glass pieces, so Meredith chose to ignore that for now. |
Candra smiled slightly at the praise Meredith gave her, not realising she was blushing with embarrassment as well. Turning back to the final pile of miniature fragments, Candra copied the same technique she'd used earlier. But this time she worked slower, once again removing the glass first; then the sawdust-type-stuff; and when she had finally finished, she inspected several small pile of sand with her wand, making sure it was only sand that was left. "Phew..." Candra heaved a huge sigh of relief that this nerve-racking experience was over, and she slowly turned back to face Meredith and Cassandra. "I've finished the separating!" She smiled, happy that nothing had gone wrong... This time. |
Meredith watched as Candra performed the hardest step of the procedure. "Good job!" she complimented when Candra was done. "Now you just have to put the sand in a new hourglass. Another crisis averted," Meredith said, smiling proudly at Candra. She was glad she had such clever employees. "That was a very good way to do it, but it wasn't the only way," Meredith continued. "Can anyone think of some other ways to do that?" There was another way that Meredith had been taught on her first day in the Time Room, and she wanted to make sure her employees knew the various methods they could use to fix problems such as the one they just had. |
"Heh..." Candra turned a deep scarlet red as she was praised. As Meredith asked about another possible method, Candra shook her head softly, wishing her hair could fall in front of her face whilst she was in her suit, if only to hide the happy grin that was slowly forming on her lips as she turned back to the table. Carefully, Candra lifted the sand with her wand, and let it fall into the Hourglass. She sealed it, and placed it gently in the 'fixed Time Turners' box, before returning to the table and clearing away the fragments. After she'd finished, Candra joined Meredith and Cassandra and pondered other methods that she could have used. |
Cassandra gave a small smile at Candra when she fixed the problem. Looking at Meredith when she spoke, she began to think. "Perhaps the Locomotor Charm?" She suggested, thowing out any ideas that came into her head. "Reparo might work. Maybe the Switching Spell aswell." She bit her lip, wondering whether they could be used or not. ooc: Those are the only ones I know that might work. :] |
"Hmm," Meredith said, listening to Cassandra's suggestions. "The Locomoter charm would probably work, but you'd have to be really careful about using Reparo. And I'm not quite sure what you mean by the Switching Spell. Would you like to explain how you would use that?" Meredith asked Cassandra. |
ooc: I hope Cassandra's explaination will make sense/work... "Hmmm, let's say you have a ziploc bag full of something. Then there's the broken Time-Turner. You would switch whatever was in the bag with the sand, making the sand now be in the bag, and whatever was in the bag, where the sand use to be." Cassandra replied after thinking it over. She wasn't exactly sure if that would work, though. But she hoped Meredith would somewhat get the point/gist of it. Hoping to step away from embaressment for herself, the dark haired woman asked, "What about you, Meredith? What's the best way?" |
Ah! I get it! "I think I know what you mean..." Candra half-smiled as she thought over what Cassandra had just said. Just then, Candra heard Cassandra ask Meredith something, so she turned to face Meredith to see what her answer was. |
"I see now," Meredith said after listening to Cassandra's explanation. "That is a good idea. I've never tried it, but it should work." In response to Cassandra's question, Meredith explained, "Well, on my first day in the Time Room, I was taught a very simple way to fix this problem. You use a summoning spell to collect the sand separate from the wood and glass shards, then transfer the pile of sand into a new hourglass." "However," Meredith continued. "There is no single best way to do this. The best way is whatever way works best for you and is quickest for you to do is the way you should use if you ever have to deal with this problem." |
Cassandra smiled when Meredith said it should work. 'I hoped it would of. And make sense...' Cassandra mentally slapped her forehead. "Of course! How could I have forgotton the summoning spell?" She said, rolling her eyes at herself. She put a mental note in her head: 'Summoning Spell, summon sand, transfer into new hourglass.' 'No best way? So whatever works best and quickest for you would be the best way...' She thought, barely nodding her head. 'I hope this won't happen again...' Looking towards her boss, Cassandra asked, "So, Meredith, do you want us to resume fixing the Time-Turners, or something new?" |
"Well," Meredith answered, "We still have some Time Turners that need to be fixed. So why don't we try some of the methods of separating the sand from wood and glass shards that we just talked about. In order to be safe, this is what we're going to do: take of the top of the hourglass and use your wand to break it. Put the pieces of wood in one of these special bins," Meredith waved her wand and a few time-warp-proof bins appeared on the table. "Add the sand, then practice the various methods of fixing the problem. This way, you will be practicing in a safe environment and when it happens for real, you will know which way works best for you," Meredith instructed. |
Quote:
Cassandra listened to her boss' orders, nodding every other sentence. "Yes ma'am." She said, before walking back to her 'workspace'. She picked up an hourglass on her way. She sat down, and noticed that she had been holding her wand the whole time of the minature explosion. She gave a small "Heh..." under her breath before starting to work. She carefully took the top off of her hourglass, and then used a non-verbal spell to break it. She used her wand to glide the wood peices to the specified box. Cassandra decided to use Candra's way first. The Separating Spell. She repeated her colleague's steps, though a bit more slower, as to not messing up. After a while, she succesfully completed fixing her hourglass. She stood up, and walked over to the bins, setting her fixed on in, took a new one, and walked back to her seat. She took the top off, and broke the top, again. She would use the Summoning Spell, this time. She flicked her wand, and the sand instantly separated from the hourglass. She then transfered the sand into a new hourglass. She had completed another one. Cassandra, again, stood up, walked over to the bins, and set hers in. ooc: I hope that's okay! I can edit if nessicary. |
ooc: Sorry I wasn't more clear. But you did what I meant for you to do. :) Meredith watched as Candra and Cassandra tried the various methods of separating sand from the wood shards. Meredith considered trying some of the methods her employees had listed herself, but in the end she decided it was better if she was available to help if she was needed. She picked up a Time Turner and began fixing it the normal way, eyes and ears open to any problems that might occur in the room. |
The oldest woman grabbed another on her way back. 'The box is sure depleting quickly...' She thought, sitting back down. She was going to use her own suggestion, the Locomoter charm. She took the top off, and broke it. "Locomoter sand." She muttered under her breath, flicking her wand. The sand rose up, and Cassandra directed it into a new hourglass. Another one completed. She, again, stood up for what seemed like the twentith time that day, and walked back over to the bins. Carefully dropping hers into the fixed box, she grabbed a new one. And walked back to her space. She would not even try to do the reparo, if Meredith said it was as hard as she said it was. And she would let Meredith test out the switching spell, also. So she just decided to do it the normal way, the summoning spell, or the separating spell for the remainder of the hourglases she took/fixed. |
Meredith walked over to where Cassandra was working. While watching the two women work, Meredith noticed that Cassandra seemed to be almost done, as she had tried out several of the methods that had talked about earlier. "So how's it going?" Meredith asked Cassandra. "Have you figured out which method works best for you yet?" |
Cassandra glanced out of the corner of her eye at Meredith when she walked over, before continuing her work. She was glad that the box was almost done, and wondered what they would have to do next. Just as she was finishing one of her last ones, Meredith spoke up. "I'm doing fine, Meredith." She answered, the corners of her mouth curling upwards. "Either the summoning spell, or the locomotor charm is working the best. I can't decide which. The separating spell seems to take longer time." While she was saying this, she was fixing her last share of hourglasses, using the locomotor charm. She used her wand to move her fixed ones to the box. She glanced at Candra and Parker before turning her gaze back to Meredith. "I wonder how they're doing..." |
Parker had spaced out a little, since she was so tired that she couldn't stop yawning. Looking down a her hand, she realized she was still holding a Time-Turner. She looked around at her coworkers, wondering if she had missed something. Slowly and carefully she placed one of the last Time-Turners in the correct box. She couldn't help but notice her hands were slightly shaking and she was starting to feel a little lightheaded. 'I'm fine.' she told herself trying to keep herself from worrying that something was wrong with her. |
Meredith listened to Cassandra's explanation. "Good," she replied when Cassandra was done. "Use whichever one of the two that you want." When Cassandra asked how the others were doing, Meredith said, "Well, I'll go find out." Meredith moved on to the woman at the next work station, Parker. Meredith noticed that Parker looked a little spacey and her hands were shaking slightly. Parker had also been quiet during the whole time they were talking. "Are you okay?" Meredith asked Parker worriedly. |
Parker still felt rather spacey and the surely wasn't the best thing in the world. But then again there were worst things, that could go wrong rather then feeling shaky and lightheaded. She inhaled deeply before breathing out a shaky breath. She gave Meredith a small smlie, she had never meant to worry her boss. It was her first day and she was already not feeling well. "I'm just not feeling very well. But I'm fine to work." she told Meredith in hopes she wouldn't worry about her. |
"Are you sure?" Meredith asked. She didn't like how pale Parker was looking. "Because you can take a break if you need to. Go to the break room and relax for a while," she suggested. "You can't do your best work if you're not feeling well." |
She gave a small nodded to Meredith's suggestion, since her boss was right and she was wrong. "I guess I'll go the break room for awhile." she told Meredith as she pulled off the hazmat suit. "I'll come back as so as I feel better." she added as she turned to leave the bright and beautiful Time room. |
"Okay," Meredith answered. "I hope you feel better," she called to Parker as Parker left the room. Meredith hoped everything was all right with Parker. Meredith moved on to the next employee, Candra. "How are you doing?" Meredith asked her. "What do you think about the different methods?" |
She simply nodded as she exited the nearly blinding room. All she need was some strong coffee and a moment to sit. Parker had always been a sickly kid, but she thought she had gotten past getting sick when under too much stress. |
Cassandra nodded when Meredith told her to use whichever one. 'Got it.' Her eyes followed Meredith as she went over to Parker. 'She looks kind of sick,' she thought, 'I wonder what's wrong.' She followed Parker with her gaze as said girl walked out of the room, and to the break room. Then, seeing Meredith talking to Candra, Cassandra decided to look around the room more. The woman got up from her workspace, and glided back over to the bell jar. She crouched down, though, with the protective suits on was somewhat hard to do so. The humming bird was currently reentering it's shell, which was reforming around it. Then the bird was coming out now. Cassandra watched the bird go through it's cycle over and over for a small while, before she stood back up. She slightly winced when she felt her knees ache from being in that position for so long. The dark haired woman wandered towards the opposite side of the room from where her boss and colleage were, admiring the craftmanship of the various clocks. 'Well, one thing's for sure,' she thought, 'no one in this division should ever be late...' |
Meredith noticed that the amount of broken Time Turners was slowly diminishing. They only had a few more to fix now. "All right," Meredith began, facing her employees. "We only have a few more Time Turners left to fix, and then we have to seal them and test them. So for the next hour, we will finish the remaining repairs, and exactly an hour from now, we will test them." "To do this," Meredith continued, "we will hold a Time-Turner and turn it once. No more, no less, or there could be disastrous consequences. You'll notice that as soon as we're done talking, a copy of yourselves will appear in the room, because you will be going back in time exactly on hour. You will have an hour to spend talking to yourselves." At this, Meredith grinned. It should be interesting. "So don't freak out when you see another you in this room. Remember, this is a test of previously broken Time-Turners, so tell me if you experience any strange feelings when using it." Meredith looked at Cassandra and Candra to make sure they understood. She then looked at one of the various clocks on the wall. "The time is now 2:07. Unless you have any questions, you will turn your Time-Turner at exactly 3:07." ooc: Sorry if I'm confusing you. It makes sense in my mind, but if you think I didn't explain it well enough, let me know and I'll PM you with a better explanation. |
Alexandra walked into the Time Room looking around at her new place of work . She heard someone giving directions and decided she would just sit back and watch until she was instructed what to do. |
Meredith looked up as a woman entered the room. Walking over to her, Meredith said, "Hi, you must be Alexandra. I was told you were coming. My name is Meredith and I'll be your division head," she introduced herself. |
Alexandra smiled and nodded at her. "Hello, Miss Meredith. I am Alexandra." She looked around blue eyes big. "So, what do you guys do around here?" She asked ready to get to work. |
"Hi Alexandra," Meredith replied. "And you can just call me Meredith." In response to Alexandra's question, Meredith proceeded to explain everything they had done so far. "Does that make sense?" she asked when she was done. |
"Yes." Alexandra smiled ready to get to work. "So, Meredith. When do I get one of these special suits?" |
"Oh!" Meredith blushed as she walked over to the closet that contained the suits. She couldn't believe she hadn't given Alexandra a suit yet. "Here you go," Meredith said, handing the suit to Alexandra. |
"Thank you." Alexandra said as she pondered on how she should put it on. "Now, what do you need me to do?" Alexandra asked as she finally got the suit on. |
Ariana walked slowly into her new place of work and looked around. "Um hello?" she asked. She didn't know anyone or what she was meant to do, but she had gotten a note saying to come here. |
ooc: I'm really sorry for not posting, everyone. School has been crazy lately. Meredith was about to explain to Alexandra what they were going to do when she noticed another woman walk into the room. "Hello," Meredith greeted the woman, smiling. "I'm Meredith, your division head." Meredith thought for a moment, trying to remember the name of the other person on her list of employees. "You must be Ariana," she said. |
"Yes I am," said Ariana, glad that she was in the right place. "I'm sorry I was late, I didn't know if this was the right place or not." She looked around and saw an egg, turn into a bird, then go back to an egg. "Wow, that's so amazing!" |
"Don't worry about being late," Meredith assured Ariana. "I'm late all the time, and look where I work." She gestured to all the clocks in the room. Meredith grinned when she noticed the look on Ariana's face when Ariana saw the hummingbird in the giant hourglass. "It is pretty cool," she agreed. Meredith crossed over to the cabinet that contained the protective suits that everyone was wearing. She grabbed one and went back to where Ariana was standing. "You need to wear this while we're fixing Time Turners," she explained, "to protect yourself from the sand. It can be very dangerous if it touches your skin." Meredith addressed Alexandra as well as Ariana as she continued. "We only have a few Time Turners left to fix, and then we're going to test them. I'll explain that when we're done fixing the Time Turners. To fix them, all you need to do is move the sand from the broken hourglasses," Meredith gestured towards the box of broken hourglasses, "to the new hourglasses and put them in this box." She pointed to the box that was filled with newly fixed Time Turners. |
"Thank you," Ariana said as she put on the protective suit. "Right, so sand into new timeturner, into box. This shouldn't be that hard." She walked over to where she was going to work and grabbed a broken timeturneer. She looked over to see how the others were doing it, and then got the idea. She took of the lid, and used a spell to break the hourglass. She then said a summoning spell to lift the sand from the broken hourglass, to the new time turner. Sealing the lid on the new timeturner, she smiled; Ariana had finally completed her first timeturner. She put the new one, in the box, then got to work on the next broken one. |
Meredith watched Ariana work for a moment and, satisfied that Ariana was doing a good job, walked back over to where Alexandra was. "How are you doing with fixing the Time Turners?" Meredith asked. |
Ariana kept working, getting herself into a rhythm was quite easy once you got the hang of it. "I'm Ariana," she said introducing herself to a woman sitting next to her. "How long have you been working here?" |
Meredith looked around when Ariana spoke, not sure if Ariana was talking to her or not. After a pause, Meredith decided to answer. "I've been working here for about four years now," she said. She sat down, hoping to have a conversation with one of her employees. They were all so quiet. |
"Wow, four years?" Ariana exclaimed. She thought to where she was four years ago. "Gosh four years ago, I would've been working on my OWLS," she said realising just how new she actually was to this job. "Have you always been in this department?" she asked, "or have you been moved?" |
"I've always worked in the Time Room," Meredith answered as she picked up another broken Time Turner. "Though I worked in a Time Room in the States for a few years before I came to London." She fixed the device quickly, her movements quick and skilled from years of experience. "What about you?" Meredithe asked Ariana. "I know you're new here, but have you worked anywhere else?" |
Ariana watched for a moment as Meredith's hands worked ten times faster then her own at fixing a time turner. "Not really, unless you count looking after my neice and nephew from time to time," she replied with all honesty. "It's their first year of school this year." She finished fixing a time tuner and put it in the pile, "Where in America did you work?" she asked. |
"Washington D.C." Meredith answered. "That's where the American school and ministry are located." She put yet another Time Turner in the box. Looking at the small pile of Time Turners left to be fixed, Meredith realized that it would soon be time to test them. |
Elijah entered the Time Room, looking around curiously. Everything seemed in order, but though there was loud clicking going on throughout the area, it seemed as if it were a bit quiet. Shrugging it off, Elijah approached Meredith. "Is all going well?" |

Elijah nodded, and smiled briefly at one of the employees when she looked his way. He wondered, very intensely, what this girl knew about the clock. He then turned back to the Division Head and nodded. "Yes, they probably could you a good scrubbing. God... what is it? I just feel like something is different about this room. Don't you sense it?" In fact, it was sending shivers up his spine. It was almost creepy, eerie, the difference. Something wasn't right, but he couldn't quite place his finger on it. Shrugging, he shook his head. "I must be imagining things. I'm going to go fetch a cup of tea. Let me know if you need anything." With that, he nodded once more at the girl and Meredith and left the room. |
"Meredith who was that?" Ariana asked as the man walked out of the room. She wondered what clock they were talking about as well, but realised that if Meredith said they were going to be cleaning it she'd probably find out soon enough. She looked down and saw that she had finished her last time turner. "Finished," she said happily. |
Meredith was about to answer that yes, she had noticed something different about the room that day. It was creeping her out, too. But before she had a chance to say any of this, Elijah rushed out of the room. That was strange, she thought. Shrugging it off, Meredith went to retrieve the special clock along with some cleaning materials. As she returned to the table, Meredith answered Ariana's question. "That," she said, "Was the Department Head, Elijah Wright." She carefully began scrubbing the clock, making sure that every inch of polished oak shined just right. When Ariana finished, Meredith quickly looked over her work. "Good job," she praised. "Would you like to help me finish cleaning this clock?" Meredith tossed Ariana a cleaning cloth. Like many other clocks in the room, this one was fairly large and could take more than one person to clean. |
Aelita entered the Time Room, looking around curiously. Everything seemed so strange/ She has comes here the first time... |
Meredith looked up as another person entered the room. "Hello," she said, smiling warmly at the other woman. "I'm Meredith, the Division Head here in the Time Room." Meredith held out her hand for her to shake, then noticed a large amount of wood cleaner on her hand. "Sorry about that," she said, laughing a little as she wiped of her hand. Once the had was clean, Meredith again offered it to the new woman. |
Aelita has looked around and has noticed that someone has gone to the room too. Woman has smiled warmly to her and greeted . And Aelita has smiled too and said: "Hello, Meredith. I'm Aelita Lett. I work here recently." Aelita shake Meredith's hand. "Nice to meet you". |
"Nice to meet you too, Aelita," Meredith said, smiling warmly. "I was just cleaning this clock." She gestured towards the large clock on the table behind her. "Would you like to help?" Behind her, Meredith thought she heard the clock stutter a bit. It shouldn't be doing that, she thought to herself. She quickly examined the clock, and, seeing nothing wrong, Meredith shrugged it off, figuring it had just been her imagination. She turned back to Aelita. |
" Of course I would like to help you", said Aelita. Aelita heard the clock stutter a bit. "It had not just been you imagination, Meredith. Something not as should be.. I feel." I forgot to say.. The sphyinx Kreig ran away from Time Room yesterday. I have almost caught it in Level Four Break Room/// |
"Yes, I've been feeling strange all day," Meredith agreed. "Something is . . . off . . . about this room today." She paused for a moment, lost in thought. "Anyway," she continued, "the cleaning supplies are right here. The clock just needs to be dusted and polished. Thanks for the help." Meredith began carefully dusting her side of the clock, getting into all the nooks and crannies to ensure that every speck of dust was off the clock. Suddenly, Meredith stopped cleaning the clock. Something was wrong. The clock had stopped ticking. She turned the clock so she could see the back and inspected every piece of the clock. She couldn't find anything wrong. This was not good. Just as suddenly as the clock stopped ticking, it started again. Meredith stared in bewilderment at the clock, completely confused as to what the problem could be. If it happened again, she would go to Elijah. |
"Wow!" Lilly breathed as she passed through the time room, on her way to the Hall of Prophecy, she passed quickly, too nervous to slow enough for a proper look around, not wanting to be late |
"Hello," Meredith greeted the woman who had just entered the Time Room. "Can I help you?" |
Hunter walked into the room. So, this was where he was going to be working. It was...unimpressive. He'd expected more. Oh well. One couldn't have everything they'd asked for in life. One of life's great mysteries. Hopefully he would at least get an office. As he looked around, the first thing he noticed was that the room was devoid of life. Where was his team, assuming he had one. Oh God. He wouldn't have to do any hiring, would he? People frightened him enough in general, but sitting there asking them questions. He didn't even want to think about it. "Hello. Anyone here?" He didn't think so, but it never hurt to check. He didn't like this. He had no idea what to do. That was a rather unfamiliar feeling. Unfamiliar equaled uncomfortable, as far as he was concerned. What if he had to talk to the department head because he was so lost. He would appear incompetent for sure. No, he'd figure things out. |
Addie walked into the somewhat bright room. She headed over to the small group that was forming. There was only one man, standing and calling. "I saw some people over there." she whispered. "Hi, I'm Addie Carlisle." she reached out her hand. |
Despite getting instructions, Blake was late to work. But could anyone really blame him? The Department of Mysteries was confusing, and he'd never been there before that morning. He felt rather out of sorts at that point. Due to the fact that he was working, Blake had pulled on dress robes. He wore pinstriped robes, a dark gray collared shirt, and a blue tie. He hated formal wear. He felt restricted and uncomfortable. But there wasn't much choice. He couldn't just show up to work in jeans and a t-shirt. Blonde hair tousled, and hanging in his gray eyes Blake finally walked into the time room. It wasn't terribly difficult to tell that he'd found the right one. There were clocks everywhere, and a few other things that he assumed told time in some way or another. He didn't really take time to assess them all. He passed by a case of time turners as he walked further into the room, looking for his department head. "Hello? Anyone here?" He called loudly, looking around for more people. After a while his ears detected some voice. Blake followed them, and came across a small group of people. He smiled cheerfully at them, and combed his tousled hair out of his eyes. "Morning. Sorry I'm late. Uh....I'm Blake." He stated. This job was the first one he'd had that didn't involve working with family. He wasn't entirely sure how to act really. But in the end of the day he'd never been the type to be unnaturally formal. It would have to be good enough to be himself. |

"It's my first day too." she said, smiling. He seemed nervous, which probably meant it was his first day. She could just tell these things. |

The female that addressed him was tall by normal standards, but was still nearly a foot shorter than him. She had dark hair and dark eyes. Blake assumed that she couldn't be much older than himself. Physically she could be older than him, she didn't have a childish look to her...but there was something in her eyes that made him assume she wasn't long out of school, like himself. He smiled at her before taking her hand. "Well, Addie Carlisle, it's a pleasure to meet you." He stated with a toothy grin. "I'm glad I'm not alone then." He laughed, and dropped her hand. "It would seem you found this room easier than I did though. I believe I went through every room in this department before I finally found it." He stated with a laugh. Then again, he'd likely have checked them all out anyway...just out of curiosity. |
"I wandered too, a bit, but I used to work in International Cooperation and I know the Ministry pretty well. This room is very... exciting, isn't it? Lots of clocks, which makes sense. It is the time room." She laughed. "What's your name?" |
"Well this is my first department here. I only moved to England a month ago. Before that I worked at my parent's cafe as a cook." He explained and grinned easily. Everyone here seemed to have such experience behind them. They'd worked here for years, in several departments. It made him feel like that much more of an outsider. Even so, he was determined not to let it bother him. "It is pretty interesting. Makes me wonder what it all does. It's...overwhelming. I mean, will I ever understand it all?" He remarked, once more looking around the room. Of course if he analyzed it long enough he assumed he could understand some of them. [/i]"I'm Blake Robinson."[/i] He introduced himself. |
"Really? What kind of food? I stink at cooking. Except for stir-fry, my neices and nephews love that." she paused. "I raise them." Should she tell Blake why? If he asked, she would tell him. |
