Gobstones Preliminary Match: Gryffindor vs Slytherin

The building used for the Gobstones matches had had its doors closed against the early November chill. Its surfaces magically dusted by Mr McLeod and Mr. Kitridge, the school's Gobstones sponsors and made ready for the term's first preliminary match.

The red and green marbles were set out and the playing 'field' had been marked. Chairs were set out on each side of the arena creating a Viewing Area for those not playing to watch.

Mr. McLeod walked in with his hands kept in his coat pockets against the cold autumn morning air, with Mr. Kitridge the school's librarian and together they set up the hall for the second match lightening the fireplaces. On the way down from the castle the two had seen the growing leaf piles under the trees.

As the teams assembled Justin put his wand to his mouth to enhance his whistle to get the players attention. "Good morning and welcome to the Gobstones club, today's our second game of the season. I hope you're all as pumped up as me and Mr. Kitridge are!" Not waiting for any responses Justin quickly signalled for the teams to choose their representatives for the first shot of the game.

"Let's begin!"

The first roll of the match for the lion side was taken by the lion's head boy, Yoongi Hyland, while fifth year, Hadleigh Lynch, took Slytherin's turn. The cheering increased as much as the speed from the two stones displayed. Surpassing two obstacles the stones slowed down to a halt, with the green stone had landing much closer than red.

Yoongi stepped aside to allow fellow prefect, Franklin Paton, to take the next shot while Hadleigh full of confidence kept her ground for Slytherin. The two fifth years with a focused look took their shots. The green and red stone rebounded off three obstacles, one activating a shower of gob onto the spectators, before the stones slowed to a halt. The red one landed passed another obstacle, with the green left behind.

"Two points to Gryffindor!" Justin announced from the sideline.

Yoongi shoots some helpful advice over to Franklin for his next shot while first year, Ariadne Greingoth, takes over for Slytherin. The two shoot their stones out as they start in a wild spiral. One obstacle down, two, three, four, five.. before they start to slow to a stop. The green stone was closer this time. "Three points to Slytherin at the end of the first round. Slytherin leads 4-2 as we head into the second round. What a fierce start!" Justin declared.

Advisor note: Blood Quill and Black Quill are interchangeable, therefore points go to Slytherin.

Second year Ava Burton steps in for the Gryffindor's side as Yoongi wishes her luck while Hadleigh steps in to try again for Slytherin. Both stones are shot with the red stone had a greater speed than the green, an obstacle stops the red one short before the green slows to a halt just past it.

"Two points to Slytherin!" Justin declared.

With a determined look from the two, the stones are shot with the red one veering off from too much curve, leaving a clear room for the green to pass two obstacles before stopping. "Three points to Slytherin at the end of the second round. Slytherin keeps the lead with 10-2 as we head into the third round." Justin declared. "It's not too late for Gryffindor to play catch up though, so let's go!"
