Welcome one and all to another wonderful show! (more like thread? lolol.) Here at member of the week, we hunt down our members and before we actually eat them, we have them tied up and interview them! =D Doesn't that sound fabulous!? Today I managed to catch a Slytherin member called Antarctica! Hellooo there!*

Hi props *waves shyly* Well! I'm... Antarctica! the exclamation mark is very much part of the name, although I'm not sure why I ever added it. in what is laughably called real life, I go by the name of Philipp. exact spelling optional.

Sure, why not, but i think we have at least one real Philippa - spelled Filipa, I believe - on snitchseeker. I doubt she'd appreciate it.

you know, I can't quite remember. google, probably. I might have searched for Harry Potter-related role-playing games.

Oohhh so you were already into Role-playing? That's the first thing that got you into SS, Phineas?*
It was, but after getting sorted, I didn't really do anything on the site for a very long time. A few months after registering, I moved, and I was cut off from the 'nets for several months, and I didn't get into SS until april or so last year. and I began rping... late last year? lol. Well, I should amend that: I TRIED to RP.

Hehehe. *Okay, so you got into SS, you went to the RP section and you as you put it "tried" to RP. *snort* Which part of SS do you REALLY like?*
Apart from the two rpgs - I'm playing in the Ministry as well - I've also grown fond of the TP. I think sooner or later everyone does. when I got into SS a year ago, that's where I spent most of my time, and that's where I met lots and lots of wonderful people.

Tell us how you were introduced into the Harry Potter world, Pherb.*
Errm. my mum had bought the first three books at one point, and one evening, I was, like, 13 at that point, I didn't find anything else to read, so I randomly grabbed a book - turned out to be Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone, and I read and read and read. And then it was 3am

I raced through the other two, and when Goblet of Fire came out, I switched to the English versions. Oh, and I didn't really consider myself, you know, an HP nerd or anything. it was kind of uncool at that time to be a fan of the books, and I was young and impressionable, and I bowed to peer pressure and sort of hid my affinity for the books. 'tis different now, of course

Of course, of course, I can completely understand that situation. Hehe. You know, our stories are a bit similar to each other! I never knew this. HEHE.*

I'll... try to keep it in my allegedly capacious mind. favourite HP character... probably Hermione. she's smart and into books and eternally sceptic, I like that. But i always had a soft spot for Cho as well. I'm not sure why. ^^

Five minutes? *panics* Errm... alright, I don't really have that many favourite books but rather favourite authors. a second Heptalogy (oh yes. look it up

) I really liked was the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. apart from that, authors I read are: Matt Ruff, Haruki Murakami, Philip K. Dick, Terry Pratchett aaaand Isaac Asimov.

I had to go on Facebook and research my own book preferences. Sorry.

Phexander? I can't believe that's a real name! But yes, I do like music. Most stuff I listen to these days is electronic, I'd say. But i also really like indie rock. and post-punk, which is, for the benefit of everyone not familiar with it, a sort of obscure genre from the late 70's.

Any particular bands you like?
Mmm. Radiohead, The Weakerthans (one of their songs gave me my user name here on SS), Kaizers Orchestra - they're from Norway and really good... Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve, which is not a band as such but more of a production team, but they're amazing. If I want slower or quieter music, I usually listen to Bic Runga. Or similar singer-songwriter sort of stuff. Oh, and The Beatles, of course. Never cared much for The Stones.

Dude, that seriously sounds like a good list there. I might even buy those songs someday. Somedaaaay. Somedaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! *sings* Okay lol enough singing! What about movies? You know, movies were people dance and sing and do lotsa stuff, especially TALK.*
lol. Well, I don't know about dance and sing AND talk, but I'm a really big fan of the big Lebowski. Absolutely brilliant film. I also liked Lost in Translation and a Scanner Darkly, which is the movie version of a pretty good Sci-Fi novel. Two other movies I really like are Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero - but I think that's because I once had a mild obsession with Zhang Ziyi. She's an actress, and in both of those movies. She's ridiculously pretty.I might even go as far as to say that she was the reason I got interested in China! And now I'm studying it at university.

That is true. I'm hopeless in maths and most natural sciences, although I'm a big nerd for certain areas, so my claim to intellectual fame is languages. I can - or could, at some point - speak German, English, Spanish, Latin, French and Chinese. Most of my French is gone, unfortunately, and Latin... Well, it doesn't really have a lot of practical applications today, but I took it for seven years. Chinese is, of course, my major at university. I'm four semesters into my studies.

Pure, platonic interest, I'd say. In Germany (at least in the type of school I went to), you have to learn at least two languages. usually, that's English and French. you don't have to take a third, but it gets you extra credit and so forth, and by the time we had to sign up for our third language, I'd more or less figured out I wasn't too bad at that whole business, so I decided to add two additional ones - Spanish and French (my second one after English had been Latin).

I'd love to brush up on my French. and I've always wanted to learn a Scandinavian language - I'm thinking of trying either Swedish or Norwegian when the next uni semester comes round.

Ooh I am! I think more so than any other scientific discipline. everything about it is immensely fascinating, in my opinion. I dropped physics after the tenth grade, so I don't have much more than an amateur's understanding of most of that stuff, at least as far as calculations and maths are concerned, but I LOVE reading about astronomy.I think the sheer size of the universe is what initially caught my interest. there are just so many amazing things to learn about! If you've ever read carl sagan, i think you know what i mean and see? That's what happens: I start waffling and rambling. I could go on for hours about astronomy

Tough question. very deep. usually I paddle in shallower intellectual waters than these. but! I'd like to think that I'd be brave and courageous enough to go through with it, like Harry did, but I think I'd have to admit that I'm not that strong. sooo, I'd probably try to find a way around it. :/

XD don't be surprised to be addressed as such going forward

This was soooo great XD and also made me feel kinda small and stupid, which does happen often when yeh talk to Phil because he's SO.SMART.

AND. I totally remember when the chat was still working, and I would see Phil in there like every day XD but because the chat wasn't super popular at the time, there was usually no one else in there, and every now and then if Phil was languishing in there I'd pop in and do the interwebz version of staring at someone in silence. And I'd be like:

Hi.

and he'd be like:

Hello.

(all proper the way he is

)

And every now and then someone else would come in, maybe Jan was on Potterwatch for a little while, and she once played "Coin-operated Boy" by the Dresden Dolls and I was like SPAZZ!ATTACK love that song. And he was like:

Really? Me too ^^

And then he left me a UN for my apparent coolness.

And then me and Amy were like, hey you're cool. Come to the TP. There are people there

And the rest, as they say, is history
