Universal Orlando Resort announced that as a result of visitor injuries, permanent metal detectors have been added to the entries of several rides at the parks, including the Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade's Dragon Challenge at Islands of Adventure.

"It's in response to what people are carrying in their pockets these days," Universal Orlando spokesman Tom Schroder said. "All of us have seen the amount of stuff we carry increase with time. All these things are items that … have no place on high-speed rides. It's just too easy for them to come loose."
The three rides around Universal Orlando Resort that will have metal detectors include the Dragon Challenge, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit and the Incredible Hulk Roller Coaster.
The new detectors have been put in place so loose items that can cause injury, like keys, phones, and change, won't be lost on the attractions. Those who have loose items on hand will have to secure them with bags and personal belongings in the various lockers around the parks.
Reports stated over the years the visitors of the parks were injured - including a man losing his eye - as a result of loose items flying about during the Dragon Challenge ride. This is the main reason the Dragon Challenge no longer allows both of its coasters to ride at the same time, as it did years ago as part of a race between the two cars.
