Mira Nair just said no to OotP In an interview about her new film, The Namesake, Indian director Mira Nair explains why she turned down the chance to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Quote:
Thanks to EmmaRiddle for the tip! |
Oh my gosh!! Chance of a lifetime, but she had a good reason for not doing it, I 'spose... She must be thinking "wow, this is crazy"! EDIT: First to post! |
Hmm... that's interesting. I have no idea what Namesake is... but I bet it's not better than Harry Potter. |
Oh Lord..get Gurinder to directed it then! ah, that is like HP we're talkin' here man! Oh, well, everyone has their own opinions and make their own choices. |
What's the Namesake? Who would turn down HP? Anyway, David Yates is doing a great job! |
I would've jumped for it, buy it's like what she said; lots of people would want to direct as well. |
The Namesake is done tho. She finished filming that movie a while back so I have no clue why she would turn HP down. They had asked her to direct GOF also; I remembered that and she turned them down. |
Well, she was already commited to another project, so to split herself between two would've been impossible. More can be read on The Namesake at the following links: Fox Searchlight - The Namesake The Namesake (2006) The Namesake - Rotten Tomatoes The Namesake & - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia It was an official selection at two film festivals. The film was out on limited release in the US on March 9th. It's amazing what a little research can unveil ;) eta: Quote:

Wow that's crazy that she turned down the chance to direct OotP, loads of directors have wanted to get the chance to direct these movies. I also give her Kudos though becuase she turned it down to finish a movie she was already working on. Better to finish one movie and do a great job then do 2 movies that are only mediocre. |
Well I've never heard of her or The Namesake, but if she was already involved in a film then it would've been wrong to take up Harry Potter. |

But anyways, that was really cute how her own son said she could be the only one who could create The Namesake. And from what I've seen in interviews, and commercials, it really seems like she did an excellent job of stayign faithful to book and such. All in all, she had good intentions when turning down the 5th Harry Potter film. |
Hmm..Emma, I see what you mean there babe. |
She has a good reason for not doing it, but i think she would have been good if she had done it. |
I have no idea who Mira Nair is so I dont have a comment about that |
That's cool. If she was asked to film HP...then I'm going to see The Namesake... |
That's crazy! But, it's her choice. |
Wow! Now, no offense to Mira, (I mean, she must've had a good reason to say no, or she wouldn't have) but if i was ever given that chance, I would hardly even consider turning it down! I mean, to meet all the cast? *squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee* |
Aww, seh should have done it. The Indian thing and the Indiannessy and the Indian with the Indias and the ..... sorry, it's an Indian thing. Ooo, she has a 15 year old, anyone know if it's a guy 15 year old? |
haha. That's so funny. I was thinking no director flat out says no to the HP movies, there's always a reason..... and most of the time it's because of another movie. And I completely know what she means about inspiration... ugh. It's never there when you need it.... <_< |
Well, artists choice, I guess. Her loss, though. It's okay though. :) Plenty of directors willing to "inherit" this "world." |
That wud have been cool if she did HP. The Namesake is a movie that released like 3 days ago in selective theatres. It's got Kal Penn in it (Kumar for Harold and Kumar go to Whitecastle). It's about this immigrant Indian family that moved to Boston and their son (Penn) is trying to fit in there and he has to deal with all his family's like traditions and stuff. It's supposed to be a great movie (based on a book). |
I don't belive I've heared of Namesake. But she seems to have a good reason to not direct OotP. I would've personally chosen Harry Potter, but that's me. |
well she was insipired when she gave this interview |
it would have been wonderful if she had done, but i'm glad that she turned it down because it shows she puts alot into making a a movie, she wont just do it because its famous. it says a lot of positive things about her. |
I can't help but wonder that maybe the reason she turned it down was because maybe she felt it was too much for her to take on. I mean why take on a project if you know you won't be able to do it justice. Good luck to her with The Namesake |
