| | |  Kelly Macdonald reveals being originally asked to play Tonks in Order of the Phoenix
In a new interview, actress Kelly Macdonald, who was confirmed to play the Grey Lady, Helena Ravenclaw, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II, revealed that director David Yates had originally asked her to portray character Nymphadora Tonks in Order of the Phoenix (which of course went to Natalia Tena).  Quote:
She's just finished shooting the part of the Grey Lady in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Unassuming as ever, she thinks director David Yates was doing her a favour "as he's knocked me back a couple to times to play [the Order of the Phoenix member] Tonks in the Harry Potter films".
The feature in the Independent, focusing on Macdonald's work on HBO's Boardwalk Empire, also noted that she did in fact work alongside Daniel Radcliffe in the final Harry Potter film. Quote:

in some things I've seen of her, I think she could make a good Tonks  than again, they kind of cut Tonks out of the films a lot...might actually get more screen time as The Grey Lady.

To me, once a actor or actress gets a part of a character, you really can't think who else might be good at it. Once you've seen them play them as that character you think their perfect for it.

It's hard to think of anyone who could have played Tonks except Natalia. David Yates certanly made the right choice when he gave the role to her. However I'm sure that Kelly is going to be phenomenal as Helena Ravenclaw  | |

Well considering how Tonks has never really been given any character of her own in the films, first as an appendage to Moody, then as an appendage to Lupin, I'd say it makes no difference to me who plays her. :/

Well, like everyone is saying here: once you've seen someone else in the role, it's hard to find another subsitute.
Either way, I think she's just too elegantly pretty to play Tonks. I don't mean that Tonks or Natalia Tena aren't beautiful, but I imagine Tonks to be the young hip Auror and Kelly seems more like an elegant lady-like person, which matches the Grey Lady more. However, I suppose if you're a good enough actor, you can play an orange and be convincing so you never know...
