JKR accused of "humiliation and harassment" by eBay

The internet auction site, eBay (formerly known as bazee.com in India) has charged author J.K.Rowling of “spreading misinformation” about it and causing it “immense harassment and humiliation.” The complaint filed by eBay in the Delhi High Court states,
Quote:

J K Rowling and her representatives are spreading misinformation about two (High Court) stay orders… The distorted manner in which wide publicity is given in the media — print and electronic — has caused immense harassment and humiliation to eBay and also damaged its goodwill and reputation.
The tussle between eBay and JKR started when the Harry Potter series went up for sale at bazee.com in 2004. JKR and Warner Bros. contend that the act was a “complete violation” of JKR’s copyrights. Hence in 2004 and 2007 representatives of JKR in India managed to get interim injunction orders passed against unauthorized display or sale of pirated versions of the Potter series in that website.
eBay has said that it should not be held responsible by JKR for the content in its website, as the website is a

Hearing of the case will take place later this year.

Sweet.Nightmare 06-07-2007 11:22 PM

I find that un-fair. Jo doesn't deserve to be acused of something like that.

Padie 06-07-2007 11:23 PM

Oh for goodness sake! They started this whole mess!

That's is so rude of them! They shouldn't have been selling pirated Harry Potter merchandice anyway.

nicola calvert 06-07-2007 11:41 PM

Hang on didn't i read somwhere the E-Bay has a policy about selling pirated stuff? So why are they complaing about JKR telling them off for selling pirated stuff, they weren't exactly sticking to their own rules in the first place!!!

Exactly! They're hypocrites, seemingly enough...

I totally side with JKR on this - it's her books, her stories, her own original ideas and she shouldn't be having eBay cheating her own and breaking their own rules/policies!

harry_lover1234 06-07-2007 11:47 PM

Ugh, those people are dummies :)

I'm on JKR's side, duh. :)

HARRY LOVER#1 =) 06-07-2007 11:56 PM

I seriously dont know why they're blaming JKR for this supposedly "hummiliation its their fault in the first place for letting pirated stuff even go on sale!!
I swear some people just get me so frustrated:hairpull:

Completely agreed. They have no right to sell such things in the first place, and now they're claiming JKR ruined their reputation? psht <_<

Come What May 06-08-2007 12:32 AM

Jo is just fighting for her rights! Ebay has no reasons to accuse her of anything!
I am on Jo's side all the way! Ebay is just so...grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....I am just so mad right now!
Jo is going to win any case they decide to take to court so I think Ebay is just wasting their time!

jmh 06-08-2007 12:42 AM

Ebay some scum balls that sell through them, we had problem before. I'm glad Jk and Warner went afer them!

Sirius_Padfoot 06-08-2007 01:11 AM

man, JK's not to blame, they shouldn't be selling pirated crud in the first place. those darn mean people (I'd say something really bad about them, but swearing is against the rules here)

Undead_Sadako_Sasaki 06-08-2007 01:20 AM

I hope JK crushes them. Law's the law, and it's stupid to go around it. I hope they'll be known forever as an untrustworthy company.

hermia123 06-08-2007 01:32 AM

This is not a good thing! I am definitely on Jo's side!

ladycplum 06-08-2007 01:51 AM

Oh for the love of GOD JK has every right to protect her interests. What is it with the courts in India, first they want Richard Gere arrested for smooching a woman now this crap? (Note, that is NOT a dig at the country of India or her people, it's just the fecked-up legal system they seem to have.)

Samia 06-08-2007 02:05 AM

totally Ridculious!!!

Zellanna 06-08-2007 02:41 AM

Ebay is not selling pirated stuff. Other people are. By attacking Ebay they aren't doing anything to stop the selling of pirated materials. I do think that JK's people have gone too far. Normally I'm on her side, but until they decide to attack the people selling the pirated material, and not the medium, I'm not going to back them on this one.

darkveils5 06-08-2007 03:11 AM

That's so unfair! JO deserves so much more respect than this! And anyway eBay shouldn't be allowing people to sell the books! JO worked hard on the Harry Potter series and she deserves the profits!

DeathEater24601 06-08-2007 03:19 AM

*gasp* No wai! JKR worked hard on the HP books! How very..... rude of them. :/ eBay can give us a hard time..... gits......

I agree with everyone who's saying that e-bay began this whole mess. I'm on Jo's side here, too, but yours as well, to the extent that Jo should be getting e-bay to ensure that people don't sell pirated stuff through it, not just attacking the medium.

And Jo rocks. *shnugglesher*

Ginny GL 06-08-2007 03:32 AM

Authors have the right to decide how to sell their work, and as far as I know Jo hadn't autorized that selling, nor did any of the publishers of her works, so I really don't understand e-Bay's complaint.

Christian 06-08-2007 03:44 AM

My goodness! <_<
